Plum Creek Golf & Country Club
About
Legendary golf architects Pete Dye and Perry Dye designed the 18-hole, private course at Plum Creek Golf and Country Club, located in Castle Rock. Opened in 1984, the golf course features 7,044 yards of golf from its championship tees, playing to a par of 72. Dye included various different challenges in this golf course, causing some locals to say that it possesses some of the most difficult holes in the state. The hilly terrain of the well-bunkered course causes many uneven lies. Water hazards also come into play on some holes. Plum Creek Golf and Country Club boasts beautiful views of Castle Rock and the Rockies.

This course has great features.
The course has long, wide open fairways with challenging greens and par 3's.
grounds and common areas a bit rough around the clubhouse but once you're on the course that's forgotten... always a fun track.

Great track for the price
Enjoy the challenge of this course, acceptably maintained and very friendly staff.
Very challenging last 3 holes
Plum Creek GC was in great shape for being early season, however the greens are just aerated as of 5/14/13. Pace of play was excellent; we didn't have to wait on any tee, although keep in mind it was a Tuesday.
The staff was cordial during the limited interaction I had with them. But this was good because all I had to do was check in, take a cart key and I was on my way. It was 2 minutes from car to tee.
The value was excellent. $27 per person for 18 and a cart. Can't beat it.
Pete Dye would be embarrased
I should have know $45 for 18 holes and a cart on a Sat was to good to be true. Once a country club, now feels like a run down muni course. Not sure what happened here but this place is in serious need of some TLC. Almost needed 4WD to get to the clubhouse the driveway had so many pot holes, greens were still sandy and bumpy from being aerated weeks ago, dead patches of grass ALL over the course, no sand in the bunkers, no ball washers, minimal yardage markers, no operating kitchen and no beer on tap. Staff was friendly including Bev cart gal, but only saw her once over 18 holes. Views are still great and any golf is good golf but it was sad to see the condition of this place. Some simple maintenance would be such a huge improvement to a beautifully designed Pete Dye course.
New Greenskeeper
While I was happy to get 50% off through GolfNow, Plum Creek was in terrible condition. First of all, the aeration done on the course's greens was of very poor quality and whoever does the greenskeeeping did not follow up correctly after it was done. Second, the amount of sand that was on the greens was laughable. Completely saturated. Of course I understand that courses go through maintenance periods during their opening and closing periods, but this was not like that. It was almost like the greenskeeper (if you want to call him/her that) googled how to prepare greens and then upped the recipe by three times.
I think this would be a great course with the right maintenance. But I will not play it again.
Greens were just aerated and this was not posted
Greens were just aerated and this was not posted on GolfNow. Tee boxes and fairways were in pretty good shape but the aerated greens pretty much ruined the round of golf.
Greens are in horrible shape
Greens were covered with sand. I am sure the greens are excellent later in the year but definitely not worth money right now.
Way to much money for the condition of the course.
Aerition of the greens is always noted on golfnow tee times and thus I will always book a time at another course. WE HAD NO NOTIFICATION that the greens had been aerated less than a week before out tee time. I wouldn't pay $10 to play on those horrible greens at Plum Creek, let alone the $55 we did pay!! Pete Dye would take his name off as the designer, if he played his course in this condition. I understand the absolute need for aerification, but don't over charge players undisclosed conditions.
A course with some character
What makes Plum creek such an interesting course is the mixture of challenging par 3s along with three of the best finishing holes in Colorado. Numbers 16-18 wrap themselves around water. Playing the course several times will help with getting distances right on quite a few elevated tee boxes into small par three greens. The staff was really friendly and the breakfast burrito was very tasty with a great deal going on with cerveza.
course not in the best shape
Usually when the greens on a course are being aerated or have recently been aerated, it is noted on the golfnow website and I wouldn't book the tee time. My recent tee time did not show that the course was being aerated and I didn't find out until I got to the course. Needless to say I wasn't too happy with golfnow for not having the aerated symbol on the tee times for this course. This is the second time this has happened to me. It would be nice if you could keep your website a little more accurate.
Have had a great time all 3 times I have played. The 19th hole has a great view and the burgers and Brats are excellent as well. Will be back!
Great day of golf! Never crowded and easily played with plenty of Birdie chances and challenges to bring you back!
Good value. Definitely worth playing.
We played Plum Creek in the first week of April. As with all courses in the Denver Metro area, the lack of "Spring weather" up until now has not yet allowed courses to become visually appealing. This is no exception. However, the fairways were mowed uniformly and the greens rolled pretty smooth. Be prepared, several of the greens are smallish and all are very tricky. Deep greenside bunkers. A good time was had and we wil be back.
The course came thru the winter in great shape..
I was surprised at how good the course was after the winter.
The greens rolled smooth and true as in mid summers form.
The staff were very friendly and when I asked about the course they were able to give me a couple of tips on how to play the course which saved me a couple of strokes.
Tim and the staff are first class.
I will be back...
Totally took me by surprise
Even though it's in the middle of February, the course is in great shape! Tom was very informative and very personable and gave me a few pointers since I had never played the course before. Wildlife abounds as do many things they leave behind, but that is to be expected.
If you don't know the course, it can give you all kinds of surprises. With my android app and my Bushnell, I felt pretty good about know what was over the knoll or around the corner...or both! Hole number 7 is a Par 3 and is going to be an absolute stunner this season. Minimal places to miss on this hole, but can't wait to get back to it.
Will be back when everything isn't frozen!
Scenic & challenging with good greens.
I played ten rounds here in six days, walking most of the rounds. Pro-shop staff were very friendly and accommodating. They even got me an old pull cart, so I could walk and not have to carry my bag. Course was very dry because of a drought, so the maintenance crew had to water some of the fairways occasionally. Some of the rough was "crunchy" because of lack of water. Very nice greens, which is the most important feature to me. The only negative was that about half the rounds took 4.75 to 5 hours to play because it was crowded - unless I was one of the first ones off in the morning. Wish they had a few push carts available for walkers, but a great course to play.
A great course with a unique way of dealing with Winter.
Over the winter, Plum Creek has an inovative way of dealing with the shorter days and harsher conditions. Every day is a Shotgun Start!
Everybody gets a hole assignment and starts at 10:00a.m. Gives the day a fun way to start and the staff can go home earlier without dealing with straglers wandering in all afternoon. At a great low price and a cart, you can't beat it. And the 19th hole ends it all with super friendly staff and a party feeling. Way to go Plum Creek CC!
This is a challenging course that has a great layout.
The course is in surprisingly good condition for December and the greens are extremely well maintained. The layout is challenging but is not "gimmicky" with straightforward holes that reward good shots. And, the views are pretty spectacular too.
Winter Golf
Plum Creek has had some financial difficulties and new faces appeared this golf season. They have made every effort and have succeeded in providing a welcoming experience on the course and it's amenities. As a Dye design the course isn't a beginner track and was set for the more advanced player and if played to the design goals is a good golf experience and a fun course for the average and better handicapper. It is winter here but the greens are holding well and the fairways are acceptable. A good thing, the rough has died off so those of us with errant shots can find the occasional ball.
The course is difficult but fun
The course is very well laid out and challenging, but it seems to bring out the best in me. Great staff. I definitely will play many more times.
