Beauty in decline
Beautiful layout, breathtaking scenery and a real challenge. That sums up Kona Country Clubs mountain course. But sadly the whole thing breathes the atmosphere of neglect. The cart we drove, would have made a fitting prop in The Flintstones: you could see right through the bottom and breaks were nonexistent. The bar was closed, the bunkers contained hardly any sand, a pond was dry, the on course lavatories were filthy and I could go on complaining. I won't. We had a fine round for $55 through a GolfNow deal. But I noticed that the standard greenfee is $150. No way!
Great course though closing 6/7/13 until further notice.
Course closing 6/7/2013 until further notice. Employees didn't know future of jobs or course. Might have new owners.
Course is a Dog.
Absolute terrible place to play. Fairways were terrible, greens were worse, bunkers were washed out and had lava rock in them. This course wouldn't be a good value at $15 let alone the $50 we paid. Do not waste your time.
Nice course, but closing in a week
Arrived to learn course is closing in a week, so driving range and restaurant were closed. Golf Now should have noted this issue. No warm up and no food. The course was maintained fairly well considering their pending closing date; however, ladie's restroom was scary, some of the greens needed attention and the cart path was washed out in several spots. Looks like they are going to re open as there was a lot of noisy maintenance going on while we played.
Good vacation courses
Fun course to play on vacation... The range was closed but other then that it was a lot of fun!
The Mountain Course
This is a nice course to play a casual round with a friend or spouse. It usually isn't crowded so there is no rush or pressure to play fast. The staff and pro shop are friendly - it would be nice if they provided bottled water, though. As for the course, it was well maintained and challenging enough, especially #14, a downhill par 3 over water, a fun shot!
Great course but not in good condition, sand traps
the sand traps where all washed out no sand just dirt and rocks If I paid more than $45.00 dollars for 18 on the condition of this course I would not be a happy camper. The golf cart #30 was in a condition I never seen on any course . I used a tee to hold a piece of metal on the driver side floor so not to trip, also the window frame was very loose missing part to hold it.
Challenging to play with side hill roll on some holes.
This coarse is a challengine because the side hill fairways. Fun to play and very much a mountain coarse. Beautiful views from the Tee's. Some breeze on a hot humid day. Staff was very nice, it was worth the money
Great views, great layout, adequate condition
We were warned off of this course by a couple we played with earlier in the week, but had already paid through GolfNow, so had to play. We are glad we did! First off, it is unfortunate that for some reason (the economy, management, whatever) the Ocean Course is closed. In fact, it doesn't look like they will be reopening it any time soon, since several of the tee boxes have been "harvested" for sod for the other course. However, the Mauka (Mountain) Course has beautiful views and on a hot, humid Big Island day, any wind is welcome. We found the condition of the course to be quite acceptable, but I would say it was on the order of a well maintained Muni. But the views were spectacular and the course was very interesting. And the price through GolfNow was low enough that we felt we got our money's worth. I wouldn't have felt the course was worth the $200 plus that we might have paid.
Course not in good shape, needed water
So dry it was not fair. we had balls in the right side of the fairway >200 yds away roll out of the fairway into a hazard less than 50 yds from the tee
Very difficult
This is definitely a mountain course, with beautiful views, but You hit a straight drive, watch it land, and then roll down the slope and be unrecoverable. Take lots of extra golf balls with you.
gorgeous views - tough course
The first four holes are crazy hard with rolling hills and teeny little greens perched atop the hills. Because the course was a little dry balls rolled right back down the hill if not perfectly placed. Too much course for my skill but breathtaking views.
Great views, but some crazy fairways.
Beautiful ocean views on the Mountain Course. The Ocean Course, driving range and restaurant are closed for refurbishment. The front nine has a couple of fairways that are entirely sloped to the ocean the entire length. Specifically the Par 5, #4 does not have a spot to drive the ball without it funneling to the sea. Same goes for your second shot.
short, but very sloping fairways
Greens break to the ocean! Nice course, white tees fairly short but hard to keep ball in fairways on many holes due to severe slope.
Not crowded, good pace of play. excellent views of the island from the high points, interesting par threes over water.
Pretty good conditionApril 2nd 2013
A good day out

stunning view
Course was in great shape , very challenging . son in-law who is a 20 hdcp was in awe ! Greens were immaculate , one tee box on the front nine ( had a screen set up to the left ) tough for a high hdcp to get a ball in play, without playing a draw ! tee box used to be set up a little right unless I am mistaken . Imagine too many houses were getting hit from that spot. Playing this course for my second time was as enjoyable as the first experience . Will be back !
terrific views of the ocean. must be a straight-shooter!
challenging holes. greens were in good shape. well-stocked pro shop. beautiful ocean views.
Course layout was terrible. Cart paths were way too far away from greens and it was near impossible to hit your ball to where it didn't roll sideways
Course layout was terrible. Cart paths were way too far away from greens and it was near impossible to hit your ball to where it didn't roll sideways about 50 yards. You have to be a mountain goat to play this course!
Great views, uneven lies and a lot of shots uphill.
Short, well maintained course with plenty of challenge due to the mountain setting.
Amazing Views
Typical mountain course, uneven lies, beautiful views. A real challenge. Could use more cart staff. Take lots of water.
