Kona Country Club
About
The Ocean Course is one of two championship courses at Kona Country Club. As its name implies, this course has an oceanfront location with views of the surrounding mountains that are home to its sister course, the Mountain Course. The Ocean Course provides an easier, but no less enjoyable round than its sibling. The layout features wide-open fairways and numerous strategically placed sand bunkers. The turquoise waters and black lava outcroppings provide natural hazards. The signature holes are the third and 12th, but one of the most memorable is the 13th hole where during November through March, you can catch a glimpse of a humpback whale. While both Kona C.C. golf courses provide a variety of challenges, the Ocean Course is a gentle, more player-friendly option that still features the same stunning views as the Mountain Course.

Grainy greens
I needed an experienced local to show me how the grain affects putting. Seemed like the greens were much grainier than other Hawaiian courses.
Kona Golf Club
We love playing this course. Albeit a bit of a resort course and not too long it will challenge the best golfers once you arrive on the greens!!! Read ‘em and weep!
Magnificent Viewss
Didn’t play very well. Didn’t care!!! When I can play golf with with my son and grandson and be in awe of the course it’s a great day!
Kona CC
Except for a small inconvenience with the pace of play I thoroughly enjoyed myself. We had to wait from the beginning on the group in front us. Never saw any ranger until the sixteenth hole. But by then we were 25 minutes behind per the cart gps.
Russ
The Course was more challenging that I anticipated. I found the greens in good condition but difficult to read for a first outing. They have more movement than resort greens, and necessitate some review from different angles. I'll look forward to playing again.
Need a Marshal
Slow play. Golfers getting out of hand on the course. For what the course charges, they should make sure everyone has a good time, and they should protect their course from drunks damaging it. They should also get a new cart girl.
beautiful location
overall very nice----starter on Friday would have been nice to have combined the two-somes to help with the pace of play----having foursomes, then twosomes, and a foresome does slow down play. Having played this course for the third consecutive year, it would be nice of the course would give a discount rate for those who play here regularly.
Good Deal - Elevated Greens
My mom and I found a hot deal at KCC and wanted to try it after playing mostly at Mauna Mani South & North courses. We had a great time and found the course challenging but not too hard. A lot of up hill and most greens were elevated. Make sure to bring your short game & remember putts roll towards the ocean!
AWESOME!!!!
This is a great course. Nice people and beautiful views while golfing!!!!!
Very Playable
Greens were slower than most but rolled true. Generous fairways with approachable greens. Nice soft sand.
Course was absolutely beautiful!
Kona Country Club’s Golf Course is an absolute gem and a must-play on the Big Island. From the moment you arrive, the views are breathtaking—lush fairways framed by lava rock, palm trees, and sweeping panoramas of the Pacific Ocean. It’s one of those rare courses where you find yourself pausing just to take in the scenery.
The course layout is fun, fair, and engaging for all skill levels. It challenges you to think without being punishing, with well-placed bunkers, rolling fairways, and greens that are true and well-maintained. Every hole feels thoughtfully designed, and the ocean breezes add an extra layer of excitement to each shot.
The staff is outstanding—welcoming, friendly, and genuinely aloha in spirit. Check-in was smooth, pace of play was relaxed, and the overall atmosphere made the experience feel special rather than rushed.
Whether you’re a serious golfer or just looking to enjoy a memorable round in paradise, the Golf Course at Kona Country Club delivers on every level. Incredible views, great conditions, and a laid-back island vibe make this a round you won’t forget. Highly recommended! 🌴⛳
Too slopey
The par 3s and other holes near the water were amazing, but there too many holes where you could hit a 230 yd drive down the middle, but be left with an awkward slopey lie either sideways, uphill or downhill. There were also several holes especially #10 that you could not see the green or flag, even after a solid drive down the middle. The yardages on the cart gps were 10-15yds out compared a laser rangefinder.
Great golf coarse.
Played here on our Christmas family vacation. My son and I had a great round of golf. The coarse it self was in fantastic shape, we brought our own clubs and used one of there carts which all of them looked brand spanking new. We got are round in a little over 3hours and 45 min which seemed really fast, we never had to wait for any groups in front of us. After the round we cad lunch in the adjoining Restuarant , the food and service was fantastic. All in all we’d definitely play more rounds of golf there if we had the time.
