Royal Hawaiian Golf Club
About
Nestled at the base of the Ko'olau Mountains in Oahu, Royal Hawaiian Golf Club enjoys a stunning tropical setting framed by ancient jungle trees that climb to more than 100 feet tall. The father-and-son team of Pete and Perry Dye designed the course. There are many telltale signs that this is a Dye course, from the many elevation changes to the varied bunker styles that are utilized throughout. The round begins with stunning views as you plunge downhill into the Maunawili Valley. There are more trees and narrower fairways on the front nine, contrasting nicely with the wide-open back nine. Royal Hawaiian Golf Club's back plays towards the mouth of the valley, offering a view of the mountains and sparkling blue Pacific waters in the distance. It's not an overly punishing golf course but locals and visitors alike have called it the toughest and most scenic course you'll find on Oahu.

Nice course!
The course is very challenging but in great shape! The clubhouse didn’t have much in it but it’s because of Covid. I recommend playing this course for the money.
Jungle Cruise
Arrived early. Starter let me go early and instructed me on some of the places to avoid and how to play some of the earlier holes. Coming from Texas the front 9 is up and down in the jungle. Only hit two drivers from the tees, 3-wood and hybrids from most of the tees. Need to hit a spot. Very cool layout. Up in the clouds. Would definitely play there again.
Royal Hawaiian
Spectacular vistas. One of the most beautiful courses we have ever played. Not easy, but, who cares.
Bring a lot of balls.
Great course for the money
Played this course for the first time and was not disappointed. Super challenging, in great condition.
Greens were a little slow and there’s no marshall to keep things moving, but overall would definitely recommend to others.
Friendly staff and the starter was very helpful.
Layout was incredible, staff and conditions didn’t match. No publishing of when carts were due in except once you got to the pro shop which at that point was already too late. Poor management of tee sheet, had three singles in front of us. No chance to finish the round. Snack shop closed before we teed off. No way to get beer or drinks.
Crazy views with perfectly manicured fairways and greens.
Wifey and I golfed this bad boy on a Tuesday morning. Loved it, recently golfed at the Royal Hawaiian in Ohua, which prepared me for different contours in the Hawaii ecosystem. We had great views, on every home, a must play, greens were superb. Big ups to the ground keepers, I’m from Texas yo, you cats need a raise, facts, too good. Play this course, when you visit the Bug Island.
Not how I remembered it...
I have played the Royal Hawaiian golf club several times. Up until now, it had been my favorite golf destination in Hawaii. The course used to be in excellent shape. This time, the tee boxes and fairways were in poor shape. The greens had been punched and sanded. Golfnow didn't mention that when I booked the round. We were very annoyed to pay the outrageous tourist rate for a course with punched greens. I still love the layout and the lush rain forest setting. Based on what they charge, we expect the course to be in better shape.
Fun once and a while
I played this course long ago and have not played it for 15 years. Not my favorite layout. It is beautiful to see but not all that great to play due to the target golf aspects. I will play it occasionally but the course will not be in my normal rotation. Pace of play was a bit slow because the groups in front lost a lot of balls. This course would be frustrating to anybody that is not extremely straight. Long hitters get penalized - I only hit 2 drivers all day. Typical Pete Dye layout.
Very Nice View for every holes !
Very Difficult and challenging courses , but they were so so beautiful courses ! I had such fun a lot !
You should bring a lot of balls, if you never play there .
I lost a lot of balls ....
