Worth the drive
A bit out of the way but a beautiful setting in the Black Forest outside of Colorado Springs.
Not Bad
Price was right. Played from the tips front and blue back. Had some challenging holes. Not long for the most part. Lot of blind holes. Fairways about half and half good shape. Greens were surprising very good. Bunkers not bad. Would say - play it once. By the way - oldest range balls I have every seen - yikes.
Fun Day at Monument Hill
We enjoyed our day at Monument Hill Country Club. This is a challenging course mainly because there are a lot of blind tee shots with OB lurking at every turn. Our group was fortunate to be joined by a local who really knew the course. The greens were in great shape with a lot of grain, so uphill putts were slow and downhill putts rolled on and on... Many of the fairways were narrow, lined with trees, hazards, and OB stakes. The mountain views were amazing!!
Greens highly variable
The range is awful. Hitting dead balls onto a dirt range. The greens are extremely inconsistent. Course conditions are ok. The views are very nice. Overall, this is a tired course that was probably pretty nice back in the day. If you get a great deal, it may be worth playing. Otherwise, save your money and play a course that is better managed.
Lots of challenges
Lots of fun, with lots of hills and lots of doglegs. Our problem was that we didn't have a range finder and the distances were hard to locate so we played a lot by guess. The women's t-boxes needed some work-hard-pan, chewed up, not very flat. But beautiful views on every hole.
Great course
Very good course for all levels. Would highly recommend this course
Great course condition
The staff had no idea of the "gift", I should have received for booking my tee timr on Golfnow.
poorest greens
this course reminds me about many "country clubs" in Florida- poor conditions, barely surviving and slowly going away. (not trying to offend anyone)
Worse greens in CO.
Challenging course
Great challenging course. Narrow fairways with many elevation changes. Greens had just been aerated a week or so before, but the grens were recovering nicely. Conditions were soft, making the course play longer. Great experience.
Nice Layout
Nice Mountain Course with many elevated tees. The course played very fair from tee box to green. Recent rain left a few soggy spots but that's mother nature in Colorado. We were greeted in the pro shop by a person that was not helpful in anyway about the layout of the course, this being our first time. I could understand if the course was busy but we were the only ones in the shop. When we made the turn we were hoping to get a bite to eat. There was a more personable guy who directed us upstairs for a bite. The guys in the bar then said it would be a wait for something to eat but directed us to the Tennis facility for a ready to go hotdog or brautwurst. Only to find that the kid running the tennis snack stand hadn't put anything on the grill. Ended up settling for for an overpriced and understocked snack box. Lame. That said the course definatly out shined the subpar customer service at this beautiful facility. I will return to play this little gem in the mountains.
Great course at a great price
The course is tucked back in the hills. The layout includes plenty of elevation changes and devilish, drive squashing pine trees lining the fairways. The course is in great shape. The greens are fast and firm. As a 20+ handicapper I was a little in over my head but really enjoyed the round. The scenery is fantastic and a family of mule deer walked within 20 feet of us.
The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. We ate at the restaurant afterwards. My playing partner and I both had a local craft beer that was delicious. He had the angus beef hamburger and I had a gyro with handmade chips. Both were excellent. In the course of our 40 minute meal the bartender Pedro, the chef Terrence, and the manager Dave all came by to check to see that everything was up to par as it were. Really outstanding customer service and great food.
Truly an all around exceptional experience.
Nice country course
Quite a slow round, but it was Labor day, and there were a lot of people out. The cart paths are dirt, but the course is out in the country, so don't expect perfection. It was not the most difficult or longest course, but it was fine for the rate that I paid.
Good value
One of the golfers I played with is a local. He said the course has come back very well from some severe drought problems and money issues. I agreed the course is in very good shape and well worth the price. Challenging course that will test your accuracy due to narrow fairways and many dog legs. Watch the out of bounds markers! That said, if you do wander off the fairways you can usually find your ball. I played the same ball the entire round even though I was in the woods several times and out of bounds twice. It will be on my list of courses to play again.
A Jewel of a Course
I must admit, I was a bit timid about playing this course. I had heard it had very narrow fairways, and being one who sometimes has trouble hitting it straight, I was nervous. Also, I got a great deal on GolfNow ($20 for 18 with cart) and I thought "How good can a course be for that price?". Boy, was I surprised. Very pleasantly surprised. This course is a Jewel. It was in great condition, even with the greens having just been aerated less than a week before. The fairways were a little narrow, but the beauty of this course lined with tall majestic pines, was specatcular. I found myself slowing down my swing and focused on hitting it straight, as opposed to killing it, and geuss what? I hit almost every fairway. This course is worth the travel time down to Monument. It is a beautiful course that is challenging and very fun to play. Go for it!
monument hill
This course has every challenge you would hope for!
Monument Hill
Challenging short course. Great greens which are also usually elevated, fast and with plenty of slope and breaks.
A Gem !
I played this course many years ago, and wish I would have come back sooner. I am "real" tired of the Castle Rock courses; either the slow play, staff with an attitude or poor conditions. This course is a gem. Fantastic shape; greens are a little too fast for my liking. Lots of doglegs "left". So a real challenge off the tee box. Hint; hit your hybrid or iron ! Greens are elevated with false fronts that are a real challenge. I will be back...
Fair Challenge
Course was in good shape. The cart paths need some attention.
Worth Playing
Monument Hill C.C. is a good golf course that is worth playing. However, what makes it tough is that there are a lot of doglegs, the fairways are narrow, and mostly all of the greens are elevated.
Course is improving
Played in early May and obviously, with all the front range rain this year, the course has improved since then.
Some cart paths will leave you thinking you should check for loose fillings; hope they get repaired soon. Practice green was not very indicative of course greens but that's just a minor gripe.
My friends who joined me this time really liked the course and want to play there again! Price was phenomenal via GolfNow ($30.50 w/cart for 18).
