coming back!
Course was in much better condition than it was the last time I played it. Keep the driver in the bag...
A course worth trying
This is a shot maker's course. The typical landing area is narrow and many tee shots require some fading and drawing. Lot's of trees. Lot's of blind or tricky shots. You had better have someone familiar with the course in your group.
Fairways are still growing in, but are very playable.
Good sand int he bunkers.
Target greens with lots of undulations that require a soft touch. It's a big mistake to be above the hole. A rough spot or two on a couple greens.
Gorgeous views and pretty course.
In some need of experienced grounds crew
When we played Monument Hill- it was the first time I had ever gotten lost at a golf course. This was due to the hole signs being backwards. (The front nine is really the back nine and vice versa). The course was in very rough condition even for a city course. Although we got a pretty good rate to play I will not be coming back any time soon.
Old School Course
Narrow fairways, postage stamp greens, penal woods, and death behind the greens...I loved it! Can't wait to go back.
Give the grounds a little TLC and this is a good place!
This was a fun course to play. Fairways were a bit tight, there are hills, plenty of dog legs. The grounds conditions are not that good. Hitting off one tee box was about like hitting out of the sand! The place needs some TLC and it is a really good play. With that said, I enjoyed my time, you can't beat the price. Peaceful setting, beautiful views. Staff, absolutely amazingly friendly. Again, give the grounds a little more TLC and you got something here.
No aeration alert
There were aeration holes on greens and all the holes were exposed and no sand to fill holes.
No aeration alert!
Play Smart - Use the Right Club
You have to be able to hit your target on this course. Many tight turns and narrow fairways, lined with pine trees. If you miss the fairways, good luck finding your ball within the trees. The course is a bit dry with some damage, but seems to be making a comeback. Greens were recently aerated, so hard to comment on conditions.
Not ready for Prime Time
I was told that I should play Monument Hill Country Club and if I do I should know that fairways are tight and that I should “put away my driver” when I play. The premise of a semi mountain course with lots of elevation changes and lots to pine trees along the course sounded interesting. I played it on 4 May 2014.
The course was once a member’s only private course that suffered water related issues and has supposedly made it back from the brink of total death. I found the cost of a round at this course way too over priced for the quality of the facility.
PROS: Interesting layout with challenging holes. Your GPS may read the course backwards. I understand that this year they reversed the 9’s
PROS: Pace of play. 4 hours and 20 minutes isn’t too bad considering the foursome in front of us had two walkers and two with a cart. The cart did break down on the back 9 so it did slow us some while we waited to see why the cart didn’t move from the fairway for about 10 minutes.
PROS: Decent hotdog
PROS: Lots of great smelling pine trees
CONS: Carts very old but in decent condition. Mine ran, stopped and got me back to the clubhouse and I didn’t have to push it from the fairway like the other golfers did.
CONS: Rather old facility that did not reflect a private club feel.
CONS: $4 for a small bucket (really a small bag) of balls. The bag had 15 balls in it. Most of the courses I play for a small bucket you get something around 30 balls. Do opt for a larger bucket if you want to get warm
CONS: No starters or Marshalls. It seemed as if the start times were 10 minutes apart. No clock at the Hole 1 so make sure you wear a watch
CONS: Tee boxes were rather beat up
CONS: Fairways are very dry not yet brown but not far away. It appears the water issues are not yet over
CONS: Sand traps are like rock hard sand. Forget about making a big sand splash in the bunker.
CONS: I have seen better tank trails than the cart paths here
CONS: The greens were plugged and sanded a couple of weeks ago and are not in good shape. The aerated holes were semi filled with sand and the sand settled leaving small indentations in every hole. Seems more sand should have been used.
CONS: The out of bounds markers are very tight on some holes. I mean super wide on one side and very tight on the other. When I say tight I mean less than 10 feet from the first cut. Some of these out of bounds are within feet of the greens. Make sure you play with someone with local knowledge of the course.
CONS: The doglegs seem backwards to what I normally play. On most of the courses I played the long part of the dogleg is after the Tee shot. On this course most of the doglegs are at the shot from the Tee, forcing you to use a long iron or fairway wood. They are short, like on the 160-180 range. With the short Tee shot and tight out of bounds, I can see why many players drive through the fairway on their Tee shots.
Overall, I can now say I played Monument Hill Country Club. The condition of the course is not what it should be for this time of year. Some will say the season is just starting and by the summer it will be better. I hope it will be. However, I have played Arrowhead, Pradera, Silver Spruce, Antlers Creek, 4 Mile, Valley High and a number of others and they are all in much better condition. For a club that bills itself as a private club and charges around $50 to play, it is not worth it. There are fair better muni’s in better shape and cost much less.
Will I play it again, probably not but at least I can say I did.
Accuracy is paramount
Thin fairways and postage stamp greens means distance takes a back seat to shot placement. I don't think I've ever seen thinner fairways and the majority of the par 4's are under 400 yards from the blue tees. A fair number of your tee shots are into blind landing zones due to doglegs around trees and slight rises 180-200 yards out from the tee box. The greens are small, but they run pretty true. Most of the greens don't have much break and of the few that have a heavy slope, they fall back towards the hitter, so you don't have to worry about hitting a good shot, only to have it skip off the back because of a downhill landing zone. I played in early Spring, so the fairway grass was still pretty thin and the greens had just been sanded, aerated, and hadn't been mowed down, so I can't give an accurate assessment of their usual condition or quality. Overall the course had the feel of a mountain course, even though it's located along the Front Range. Very pretty area with lots of trees and nice houses along the course.
Not ready for prime yet
Very poor condition. Tees mostly sand Greens stayed but left much sand and plugs on thr greens GReens not cut yet this year
Monument Hill Country Club
This course had a feel of a mountain course, beuatiful scenery of Pikes Peak, challenging holes.
Fun course!
It is a fun course with elevation and challenge. The greens had just been treated so they were slow and bumpy. Beautiful location nestled in the trees and homes of Monument.
Great value and challenge
Had a really fun time here. Course is in really good shape for early season. Greens were recently punched but everything is green. Some of the visual challenge of narrow fairways makes it more fun and rewarding when you nail your shot.
Great value, good location
This course looks like it will be in great shape this summer, still on cart path only , but that means they don't mind upsetting a few people to assure the course ends up how they want it.
Hot deal
I got on here yesterday utilizing the hot deal and for $21 got 18 holes and a cart. The course was nice and wide open. Staff was great and certainly some challenging holes, I will definitely be playing again.
