Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills - Gold Course
About
The Gold Course from Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills is the only 18-hole course at the facility. Designed by Frank Hummel, the course opened in 1959 and used to include the 9 holes of the Blue Course as the front nine. Currently however, both the Gold and the Blue are separate courses. The landscape of the Gold is hilly and seven ponds create a beautiful atmosphere while also adding challenging water hazards to eleven holes. Although the entire course is scenic, the 12th hole is considered to have the most picturesque views. Its elevated tee offers gorgeous vistas of the majestic Rocky Mountains. Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills is known not only for its gorgeous scenery, it has also received acclaim from golf publications such as Golf Digest.

HHills Gold 2022 First
Course in good shape considering cool Spring weather. Good Senior discount. Restaurant closed on Mon and Tuesday.
course needs water. we have not had rain so the course is drying out. they need to start using their sprinkler system.
Love the Gold Course.
I really enjoy this course . It’s challenging for me and is always in good shape. This super dry spring is very apparent. Fairways are thin and extra firm. However, all front range courses are suffering this spring
Fun and challenging
We played shortly after the fairways and greens were Aerated, so the conditions were as expected. The pace of play was excellent !!
Bring your lunch.
Pace of play on this coarse is bad. People play at there own pace with no consideration for other groups behind them. There are no Marshall"s on the coarse to monitor the pace of play. 5 hour rounds are routine, even when teeing off early in the morning.
Decent Layout with Stacked Tee Times and Hacks Wearing Jeans
The layout is ok, there are a few bizarre holes with trees in middle of fairways, and greens in obscure places. The conditions were ok and the greens are healing, but: be warned…I played a SIX HOUR round on a Tuesday afternoon, and I only wish I were exaggerating. The course is tough, so when you take a bunch of 27+ handicaps and flood them on the course every 7-8 minutes, pace of play is DOOMED. For this reason alone, I’ll never play this course again. 1- space your tee times apart, 2- hire Marshall’s and make it their job to enforce pace of play (like making a really slow group skip a hole…we saw 0 Marshall’s, and not even a starter). 3- stop allowing golfers wearing jeans to play: chances are, they aren’t good enough or long enough to play this course and enjoy it (or prevent play from slowing to a miserable crawl). As an example, we saw a group of 4 hit 9 balls total in the water on #7 or 8 (the par 3 over water).
Course needs water. greens need water. Still April.
Amenities
We were under at least a 1/2 hour frost delay with no warning about it until we were at the course. The restaurant did not open until 11AM. Our tee time was supposed to be at 10:10. The shack where you can buy some drinks had no food either. Other than that I liked the round.
This is a great course for the value
The course is always well maintained with some challenging holes. I play this course about 6-8 times a year weekdays and it always gets backed up. There is no ranger to oversee the pace of play. its a great course and I just wish the pace of play was better managed.
Not great
The course is in bad shape. The tee off area is uneven in a lot of the holes and the greens are in terrible shape. Was disappointed.
Great views
Great course, busy and delayed after a frost delay but excellent food while waiting. Also greens had been spiked and sanded so a little unpredictable but still good. Lovely mountain views throughout the course.
Recent aeration, firm conditions, tight lies, challenging putting
We played on the 3rd day they opened after aerating the fairways & greens. They did a good job on making the fairways playable & cleaned off a lot of the plugs. The greens were fairly heavily top dressed with full, hollow plugs which will help in the long run but challenge your putting numbers early on.
The ground is fairly firm, likely due to early season conditions and no or limited watering so far. So drives can really go! A couple were the longest I've ever hit on some holes, like #5 (311) & #12 (330)... older golfer here...unintentionally hitting through the group ahead of us, sorry!
The frost delay was 1:45, but it was down to 40 min by 1p. That meant the tee sheet was compressed ahead of us...which led to plenty of time to enjoy the pleasant weather.
Slow every time
The course itself is nice, but every time I’ve gone this year and last, it’s taken at least 5 hours for 18. Last time I left around hole 14 since it was so slow
