Greg Mastriona Golf Courses at Hyland Hills - Gold Course

Okay so obviously the have some managerial problems at this course. So I booked this tee time after comparing the single slot available to many other courses. This tee time for one play at 9:30 am on a Saturday was available for over an hour before I decided to book. I arrived 30 mins early walked in to the pro shop and paid for my tee time to Walk 18. The cashier was new and being helped by the manager to check me in. I went out warmed up went to the tee time where a group of 16 players were on the tee I went inside about five minutes before my tee time and the starter confirmed I was at 9:30. At 9:30 the starter called me into the pro shop over the loud speaker. To which I met the manager in a heated conversation with a man about calling weeks in advance. The manager then informed me that I was unable to play at the time I had reserved because they didn’t mark down a request for that tee time earlier. Apparently the man who was talking to the manager called in over three weeks earlier to reserve 4 foursomes starting at the 9:30am tee time which I had a reservation for. So me being the single got the boot and was told I couldn’t play unless someone canceled. I knew they were booked solid for the entire day so instead of waiting around I left to play another course. It sucks but hey mistakes happen. The worst part was for my inconvenience the only offered me a free cart for my next round. Which was pretty ridiculous for someone who was signed up for a walking tee time. Not to mention they messed up pretty bad and pretty much said here’s the equivalent of a bucket of range balls for ruining your entire Saturday! Later that day I get an email from golf now reminding me of a tee time the following day for a foursome in the afternoon. That tee time was supposed to have been canceled three days earlier. But the person running the schedule never put it in. So the tee times you book here might not be available and the tee times you cancel might not actually get canceled. I understand mistakes happen but these two major screw ups on their end could have been handled much better. Other than that the course staff normally is pretty good and the course can be in good shape. Hopefully your experience is better than mine!

People were waiting 15 minutes + to get in the pro shop to pay for the round. There should be call in checkin and pay for the round to expedite checkin. The half way should be open easy grab food and drinks. It can be done safely.

Course was in early spring condition. One comment, if you are going to remove the rakes from the bunker (COVID) the course staff should rake them every morning. Most were rock hard and played similar to hardpan lies.

Hyland Hills Golf Course, great shape and very green. This morning we tried finishing 18 holes, but the rain and pea size hail stop us from completing 18, we did complete 15 holes before play was stop. I will continue to play Hyland Hills at least 4 or 5 times this summer. I will continue spreading the word on Hyland Hills golf course. Maintenance on the course is well kept..

Good day even with cart path only rule. Would have been nicer if a bev cart was around before the 12th hole but even so, not a day ruiner. Fairways are in great shape, greens are a little sandy but overall roll fast still. Great course

Generally a good course to walk. Don't care for hazards, ie. creeks in front of greens, trees in middle of fairways. Course only in fair shape-multiple areas under repair.

Practice range has old mats that were threadbare.

greens were recently aerated and were bumpy and sandy. Fairways were great.

Course was in bad shape and they are charging full price without notice.

They canceled my round ( which was fine) but they never emailed me or communicated they were closed. When I called the pro shop after arriving I was told they made the decision that morning ( I had a 12:20 tee time) and it’s not reasonable for one person to send all those cancelation emails. They’ve done it before and it it was frustrating that they were showing as open just to find out they were closed after driving there

Beginning of season, lots of sand on greens and t boxes...I'm guessing it gets better later on.....Long course to walk, but I enjoyed it.
