this is the condition of the 12th green. This is standard condition on all greens Photo submitted by hendu11 on 08/03/2023

while the greens and tee boxes continue to go downhill, the greenskeeper has the time and money to put these pointless bushes and rocks behind the 11th green. No priorities. Photo submitted by hendu11 on 08/03/2023

TLC
This course needs some TLC. Played it a few years back and was in better condition. If some time was put into the tee boxes and fairways this would be a nice course. Gentleman in the shop was upfront with us so we knew what we were getting into.

Fall Golf
I usually play a few rounds of golf at this couse during the Spring, Summer and Fall. The course was in average condition for the Fall and after a few week's of considerable rainfall. The tee boxes and greens were maintained and in good condition. The fairways were playablle, but were very wet with some restricted areas. Golf carts were in full use and the course had some roped off travel areas. The fairways were clear and free of Autimn leaves. No difficulty locating your golfball. The staff at this golf course is very friendly and accommodating. I played on a “Hot Deal” which was an excellent price for this round of golf including a cart.
Bad conditions. Disappointed
The positives: Pro shop staff was very polite and friendly. Greens were in decent shape and rolled true. Sadly, that’s about it.
There is virtually no difference between the fairway and rough. All crab grass. Tee boxes were in rough shape. I see they’ve cleared some trees on the back nine and lengthened it a bit which is nice, but overall just in very poor condition.
$30 for 18 and a cart felt like a bargain going in, but not so much coming out. If you’re just there to hack around and have some beers with friends, it’s serviceable. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
For the Golfer That Likes It Rough
This was my first time playing here and it will be my last. The course doesn't really have fairways. The areas that are supposed to be fairways are pretty grassy and thick. I'd say they were akin to the first cut of rough on most other courses. It's hard for someone like me who isn't very good. When I would make good shots off the tee I still felt like I was being punished. The guy at the desk was very friendly and gave me a quick layout of the course which was really nice. The customer service in that regard was excellent, but the course would need to be cut more traditionally for me to play again.
Blackbirch
I love this course! Good greens and a mix of open and tight holes.
Need water on course or at least a cart person. 100 degrees and no water does not mix well.
Very Enjoyable
Staff was friendly. Greens were in good shape. Challenging but not overwhelming layout. Play on adjacent fairways keeps you on your toes. A very enjoyable round.
Poor fairways
Heard they put money into course.....maybe needs couple more years for fairways to set up. If fairways improve, it will be a great course.
Good Value
Staff was very friendly. We were able to tee off right away. Course in good shape. Tough rough - lost balls in the clover. Greens nice. Tee boxes a bit dry - hard to tee ball. Lunch in clubhouse after was good. Overall enjoyable experience.
Not bad. Better than last year
A good round for the money -- greens in good shape -- fairways had just been cut -- they have been putting some money back into the course -- Good value for the money --Don't expect Augusta but it is a step above most municipal courses
Course was in poor condition. No defined fairways Balls hard to find even when hit in the area where the fairways should be. But the greens were in great condition. Played this course 2 years ago and the conditions have gotten worse. Won’t see me playing this course anytime soon.
getting better
I have played this course quite a few times over the years. It has gone through years of neglect and now the new owner and ground personnel have improved the conditions significantly, though the clover made it difficult to find the ball in the fairway/rough . Worth trying again
Rural Golf Course
This was my second round of golf at Black Birch Golf Course within a week. I was looking for a quick round at a reasonable price and noticed the Hot Deal. Although I had a few dissapointments playing here a few days ago, today’s round went smoothly. The tees, fairways and greens were cut and in good condition. There was a lot of signage on the course, and it was readible and informative. There were still quite a few areas under repair, but the fairway divits and tee box skids were filled and repaired. The front 9 holes played well, but the back 9 holes are in need of attention. The staff is very friendly and helpful. If you like playing in a rural country setting, you will enjoy a round of golf at Black Birch.
Friendly staff. Good value.
This is the second round of golf played at Black Birch Golf Club this season. I had a mid-day tee time, and arrived on time. The course was busy and there were no available carts. We waited 30 minutes for a group to return, then started our round. Pace of play was average for a weekend. The tee boxes and fairways needed attention. Turf was long, and many areas under repair. Not the condition I was expecting for a weekend round. The greens were cut, but slower than my last round of golf that I played there. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. It is a good value for beginner or less seasoned golfers.
Getting better all the time!
The course is getting much better. A few years ago it was just about unplayable but since they hired a new greens keeper you can see the improvements. Don’t expect a posh country club but a great value in south eastern ct. Also, very friendly staff!
Black Birch
course was in good spring condition, would not recommend walking
