winter play
the greens were all closed and you teed off twice from one hole all of the tees were moved up
Good course, but Winter Play is limited.
I like Oak Hills, and think it's a pretty nice public course in Fairfield County. I'm only writing this review to let other golfers now that it is not set up for real golf in the winter. Tees are set up in front of the tee boxes on uneven rough, and the holes are just holes dug into the fairway in front of the greens. I completely understand and appreciate that this is to let the tee boxes and greens rest during the off season. They have yellow sticks in the holes but no flags. I thought they should at least have flags to help a rangefinder pick up the distance. Mine seemed to work somewhat on the sticks alone but flags would also help golfers see where the holes are.
It's only $20 to walk 18 in the winter but you get what you pay for. Winter golf is really if you just want to get out and do some practice shots (putting excluded).
I recommend hitting Oak Hills in the regular season when it's s pretty nice parkland course open to the public for around $50/$60.
All temporary greens and tee boxes
I paid some money for playing golf at this course.
There were all temporary tee boxes and greens.
I regretted why I was there. I was not even finished all 18 holes.
Why did not they close course few months for maintenance?
It was kind of ripped off golfer’s money.
Don’t go this golf course during winter season.
It made you wasting your valuable money.
Better research other courses even you pay more.
no
In the future, don`t open the corurse .18th hole balance was too temporizing.
GOLFNOW doesn’t have the correct information
Golfnow did not make a note that the course was using winter tee boxes and greens. Also they charged $30 for a cart and the course did not have carts for the winter. Nothing against the course they are great and friendly staff. I will continue to play there.
The worst
This kind of golf is closed.
I made a reservation for the price including the cart, but the cart is not ready.
I had to walk, and all the holes were the beginning of the temporary green.
After driving for 3 hours round trip, we had the worst round trip.
Heads up
Just actually booked for Sunday and had to cancel
Went on the actual site and it’s under winter rules
No carts
20 dollars to carry your bag
Temporary greens and tee boxes
Where is all the extra money going to
Messed up and I better get my refund
My review
I like playing this course each hole is a bit different fun to play
Great course
Haven't played here in over 2 years but booked it because I was visiting CT. The course is in great condition for the end of October. Greens were perfect. Fairways excellent. However the bunkers were terrible - hard dirt; no real sand, and haven't been manicured in forever. Other thing to know - we had a 2 HOUR frost delay, so if you book a tee time at this time of the year you better have the whole day available. And call first because I got no email notification. Pace of play was excellent - just over 4 hours.
Great Conditions, Poor Layout
Greens and fairways were top notch, course layout had too many twists and turns, some blind tee shots, and a few weird green locations. Also Rangers need to use a little golf common sense. On 14th hole he tells us there's a hole and a half open ahead of us and we need to step it up a little. Nobody held up behind us but didn't matter to him. We close the gap by the 16th hole, only to have to wait on the 17th tee for the group in front of us. Was hoping to see the Ranger again to let him know he's an idiot for rushing us only to make us wait but he was off bothering everyone else. We got a good laugh out of it anyway. We won't be going back,
Average Course
Pace of play was horrible for a course who has a ranger. It took well over 3 hours to play 9 holes , we ended up leaving after 9 bc the course was so backed up (we paid for 18). Its Fall so the course conditions are what they are. The pro shop staff did try to double charge me for my tee time, even though i told them i already paid through the app.
