Golfer Reviews
Run like a prison
I’m normally not one to complain about any round of golf, we were very lucky to be out there. However, the rangers and starters at this course act like they’re doing you a huge favor letting you on this municipal golf course. Right from the beginning we walked up to the starter very friendly, he doesn’t say a word but “go up to the box”, okay no problem maybe he’s just having a bad day, also note we were on time and following and restrictions the course may have. He never even mentioned we were playing with the guys in front of us, which is fine we knew that and introduced ourselves, he never told them either so they were surprised. Again no big deal. When it became a problem was on the sixth hole, one bolt of lightning struck maybe 30 miles away, wasn’t even close and the thunder was well after. So they call everyone off the course, again that’s fine if you want to be cautious. So the starter and now a ranger with a similar attitude are essentially demanding everyones to go up on the deck they have, so there’s like 60 people up there during COVID so we figured it’s not raining we will just hang out down here. There’s no lightning, or no rain for the entirety of the delay, and the whole time I’m witnessing these guys be so rude to all their paying customers. One guy said “I have a tee time for 130” and the starter said “no you don’t, no ones going out on the course”. It hadn’t rained, thundered or lightning in at least 30 mins, it was getting close to an hr. Meanwhile the Sargents hadn’t given their prisoners any updates the entire time on how long we’d wait between lightning strikes, on what they were basing their choice off of (it actually never ended up raining for more then 5 mins that day). So people decide to leave and there ends up being a long wait for rain checks cause their computer system also kept crashing (I actually felt bad for the young girl because she was one nice person at the course).
As someone who works hard, long, hrs like most. The last place you’d expect to be treated this way is a golf course. I hope these old boys will read this and just retire if they are so miserable to check boxes off on a piece of paper all day. I cannot imagine treating a customer this way.
Enjoy your rounds! Go to Pound Ridge if you’re looking for golf in the area and are willing to pay a bit more for an amazing experience.
Great condition
Played this course day after the hurricane rolled through. Tree fell on front side so we played back twice. They did clean the front by 4 in the afternoon.
Bad timing
A little unfortunate that I booked this round after the tropical storm.....the front nine was closed. Wish I would have known.
However, it was a very nice course and an enjoyable 9 holes with a very interesting layout.
Nice Day
Starter no mask on. Guy lining up carts giving us attitude about moving the cart yet our tee time wasn't called yet. Way too many advertisements on GPS on cart. Pace of play was excellent. Course was in good condition. Staff friendliness just wasn't very good.
Great value
Excellent muni course. Great value, course in excellent condition. Back nine tougher than front. Will be back
Keep coming back
Well maintained muni course. Nice people and great value. I need no more
Pace of play
Pace of play was get slow. My cart was equipped with gps, but gps did not work. No scorecards to show the routing of the course. I played here last summer and the amenities have deteriorated since then . Would not recommend for the price. Just a regular muni.
Manicured greens that challenge
All around enjoyable . I cranky Ranger but I would be also if I had to watch and not play all day. Well maintained and the changes they made to certain holes really are marvelous...tee it up and enjoy...
Solid Course
First time here and was a good course in very good condition. Staff was great. The course itself was in good shape and had some very cool holes. Pretty open, did lose one ball in the woods, and we finished in just about 4 hours. Will definitely play here again.
Really nice
Oak Hills is a muni course so I had some considerations going in. It is a superb place to play.. play moved at a good pace and the course was in great condition.great people and a fun day, already booked my next round there
Good upkeep - clever layout
First time playing the course and was pleasantly impressed. For context I rate Pound Ridge as the bar for what a great public course in the Fairfield county (ish) vicinity is. Oak Hills Park had good greens, well kept fairways and tees, and clever layout with dog legs and hidden greens that puts accuracy at a premium. Some holes through mid-round are wide open but start and end holes are all similar in layout. Overall very happy and will make this a “home course” along with Sterling Farms.
