Much Improved
The state of CT pumped $15 million into the course, and extensive course reconstruction began last year and is finally winding down with just work on a couple of tee boxes ongoing. Speaking of the tee boxes, every one of them was rebuilt and laser-leveled. Some have been raised, most notably the first tee which should help scoring as well as pace of play as you could never see the foursome in front and had to rely on a raised mirror-scope before hitting. Lots of work done reshaping and even eliminating sand traps.
This course has had the best conditions of any course in the area (including private clubs) for the past four years or so. The greenskeeper is becoming legendary. Most golfers will want to play from the blue tees as it is a short course and the blues make for far better play off the tees. Nice restaurant veranda for the 19th hole.
Nice course but zero accommodation
Great course with a good layout but be sure you call ahead. Found out when I got there that there were no carts...Fine. Then there's no push carts left either. Little disappointed
Pretty good course and only getting better
Apparently they are putting a bunch of money into this course, there were a couple temporary tee boxes but it looks like it will be finished in a few months. They already have several new tee boxes and sand traps done. Place is kind of a hidden gem. Some interesting and blind holes. Definitely on the easier side so if you want an ego boost go here.
I will be back for sure, especially at $47 on a sunday.
Interesting local track
Through booking and check in, had no idea the greens were recently aerated. This is a short tight shot makers track for the most part. Teeboxes and greens have elevation changes which adds challenges to holes. It's a great place for locals but not worth just to play after a long drive. The staff was alright, not exactly over friendly which was a surprise because the local players here seemed nice as nice can be. The unisex bathrooms needed some TLC so ladies be prepared. Again a golf course to check out if you're either a local or happen to be in the area.
Interesting holes.
The course was in very good shape. The greens were running fast but true. Had an enjoyable round playing with a father and son. Bunkers were wet and hard but manageable.
hard foe physically challenges
Some of the tees wre pretty inaccessible for disabled golfers, but there were shorter tees to substitute.
Happy to find this one
A varied mix of flat and hilly, open and treed, obvious and mysterious - lots of fun!
You need to play strategically frequently, and have your short game in gear. Good greens.
Nice CT Muni Course
Course and greens were in excellent shape with good speed. Pace of play was good for 10am weekday tee off. Front 9 had a number of blind shots which I imagine would be better now that I know where to position the ball for the next shot. Will definitely play again, including trying the golf board cart.
Ranger
Starter very unorganized was rude as a ranger, also tried to push as many people put was rushing play and at that the course still took 5 hours. It would be enjoyable if he wasn't in charge of operation.
Much improved!
Compared to a few years ago the course is now getting excellent care, greens are now among the best around. The Rangers could do a better job with the (typical) slow afternoon play.
Always a Pleasure
Went relatively early in the season for Northeast golf. Minus the 90min delay due to morning frost on the greens, it was another pleasant experience there. The staff was nice as always. And since they felt bad about the delays, everyone that day received a free bag towel (which was a nice microfiber one), divot tool and ball marker.
Interesting track
Was a interesting track in the blind shots and unknown trouble! Greens good shape back more playable then front!
I enjoy this course!
Awhile back the course was aerated and there was a lot of dried up plugs from the aeration that had not been blown off the fairways.Other than that it was a great Day!
It was a great time to play at this beautiful course.
The course was excellent to play and view. One bad thing was so many leaves everywhere. Specially fall season, they should removed all leaves for better playing golf. Except that, the course was great and I strongly recomand to every golfers in this historic golf course.
not the most accomodating staff
Rained a lot the previous day so no carts allowed which was understandable. I had paid for a cart with my round but they made me pay $8 for a pull cart. I didnt appreciate that.
Pace of Play... Ouch
It took about 2.5 hours to play 9 holes. Course wasn't packed either. It was rough. Greens were in good shape. Rough was spotty and the fairways were OK. If the pace of play was good, I would've enjoyed the round, but waiting at least 2 or 3 minutes on every shot was not a relaxing way to spend a saturday.
Good mix of short and long holes.
The greens are very good for a public golf course.
Always a great time!
This was the second time playing Oak Hills. I enjoy the course and the peaceful wooded setting. great afternoon enjoying Nature on a great course.
