Many fairways at Portland plunge downward on their way to their greens. The first certainly exemplifies this, making for a tricky approach shot. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 11/25/2023

The 10th: Short par-4 that can be driven, but that’s a hard risk-reward proposition given what lies behind the green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 11/21/2022

A commanding hole in the form of a Switchback, twelve is also aesthetically impressive. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 11/21/2022

Well kept Tees and greens good shape
For this time of the year the course was in well shape. Its a fun course for the money. Its a little on the short side for my level of play but perfect for all my friends and most average golfers. Great views and location!!
Slow greens
The greens are very slow because the grass doesn't seem like it was cut. You have to really hammer your putts.
Really like this course!
I think this is the best course in the Portland area - much nicer and forgiving than Quarry Ridge. We had a really nice day and the pace of play was great - very few hold ups. As it was autumn and a lot of leaves off to the borders of the rough, finding balls that weren't well hit was a challenge but was able to find more than was lost.
It's a good course, but today....
I like the course but, please, tell me when you aerate the greens!!!!
GOOD COURSE - well maintained
Played on a nice fall windy day. The greens had been recently aerated so that was a draw back. Sand traps were very good - raked and well maintained. Fairways were a bit spotty not all in all not bad. Pace of play was not good though. Played the 1st nine in about 2 hrs but the back was terrible. Had 2 groups in front of us - one a twosome man and wife who wouldn't us go through. Very frustrating - NO ranger around either. Took over 2 1/2 hours for the 2nd 9. But I guess that could happen anywhere.
Accomodating
Played this course while a tourney was going on. The staff was not aware of on-line tee time that was set up at the same time of the tourney. The Golf shop was able to place me w/ a couple that he sent out behind the tourney, which was very accomodating and didnt have to do. I know other course would just tell you that the course is closed due to a tourney, so this was a definite change to how things are done at other courses. The course was also in great shape and the greens were smooth.
great variety of holes and good for the average/above average golfer
greens are always in great shape with good quickness and true roll, and fairways are always clean and groomed despite being in a haevily wooded area, this is a great fall golf experience when the leaves are turning colors.
A very forgiving course....allowing for a variety of handicaps to enjoy!
Most times a round moves rather smoothly and can be played in under four hours.....the holes are pleasing to the eye so it makes waiting seem effortless in the event it occurs.Their are some holes that are a bit challenging as the fairways can be narrow when teeing off.....a few dog legs help keep you on your toes....while 2-3 greens are actually drive-able if a clean shot is maintained.....overall a very enjoyable round of golf!!
Nice layout
Definitely worth it! Some challenging holes mixed with some rewarding holes. Placement golf is what it calls for. Greens roll true which is a must for me. I've been back time and time again. The deals of golfnow make it a no brainer
Portland Gold Course, Portland, CT
The staff is friendly, course in great shape, greens rolled true and straight. Took my brother (from California) and he enjoyed playing the course! Will be back....
