Many fairways at Portland plunge downward on their way to their greens. The first certainly exemplifies this, making for a tricky approach shot. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 11/25/2023

The 10th: Short par-4 that can be driven, but that’s a hard risk-reward proposition given what lies behind the green. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 11/21/2022

Fun little course
Always a fun course. Not that short but a lot of be careful, placement tee shots. Greens were excellent for us average golfers. Pace not bad for a Sunday morning
dogleg city
this course is a lot easier the second time you play.
the first time you play this course you grab driver
out of the bag not knowing what awaits you on
the other side of the hill you have to hit over.lots
of surprises .hilly ,narrow in spots, but overall a good
time on a course in great shape.great bang for the
buck.
Wonderful greens
I enjoy this course very much. Not the longest course but fun and challenging to play. Greens are in excellent shape. Had a good day.
GREAT COURSE
WILL PLAY MANY MORE TIMES. I LOVE THIS COURSE. WILL PLAY MANY MORE TIMES. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Ghetto boy
I played with someone I didn't know and they were very friendly. I met three new friends at the golf course. The course and green were in beautiful condition for this time of year. I was surprise how fast the pace of play was it only took us 3.5 hrs to play 18 hole. Thanks again golfnow for this beautiful Sunday outing.
Tricky first time at the Course
Fortunately I was along with a couple that had played the course before and they pointed out most hazards. That being said, I really liked the course and will go back, but will score better having been around once. Many doglegs and up/down hills compared to other course I have played. Will return and happy I wnt
Awesome Course
Excellent course and I definitely recommend this course to just about anybody. I only wish they had a driving range, but portland west golf course is only two minutes down the road with a decent range to warm-up at
Not my style of golf
First of all, it was great to play golf in Connecticut on December 28th and Portland Golf Course was one of the few courses open for play. Discounting the weather related challenges, the course was in good shape.
I do not like holes that have blind shots or require the group in front of you to ring a bell to indicate it is safe to hit. This course has two holes with bells and many other that require you to ride ahead and see if it is safe to hit. There is no real good way to get a feel for each hole the first time you play the course; luckily I was paired up with a couple of guys who played there regularly.
Additionally, many holes have sloping fairways that will push a slightly misplaced shot into some deep gullies and water hazards. The hard ground may have amplified this behavior during my round.
There are a lot of doglegs that require well placed tee shots to get a shot at the green on your second shot. Many fairways produced uneven lies that added several stokes to my score.
The greens were in great shape, fast and fair. A couple of holes had tiered greens that will punish a shot the wrong tier. The 17th hole had a mean flag placement in the middle of the slope between the two tiers.
I may go back if there is another winter day that is warm enough to play golf and they are the only place open. During the regular golf weather, I would choose Quarry Ridge instead of Portland Golf Club.
This course is always in excellent shape and a pleasure to play
I always enjoy playing this course because it is challenging without being overly difficult. It is always well maintained and the staff is friendly....just a fun course to be on
Fun Coarse
A very good coarse with moderate challenges, fairways in great shape along with the greens. Back nine is tighter on the fairways with doglegs that keep you on your game. I highly recommend this coarse, you'd like it!
Portland was in great shape
Although it was mid November, the greens and tee boxes were in excellent shape. There were very few leaves. It was one of the best fall golf days of the year I had. There was a small breeze and temps in the low 40s.
Fun, scenic course!
Played PGC on 11/17. Mark, in the pro shop, was super friendly and helpful as always. Moved up to the white tees and had a blast. Almost drove a couple of the short par 4's and had more pars and birdies than usual. Course is in great shape! Tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and greens are in exceptional shape. Highly recommended!
Always like playing this course
The course was in very good shape. There were leaves on some of the fairways that made looking for balls a little difficult, but they were out there trying their best to clear the course.
contours, blind shots, slopes, course has it all.
Nice views, enjoyed course, staff efficient and friendly. Other golfers cordial.
nice mix of holes-better hit it straight
had a good time until weather kicked up,overall fun course to play
Nice greens!
Great course in great condition even this late in the season.....
Good October Course
Course was in really good shape and maintained. Clean from leaves and debris which is pleasant to find in October. Though it was a quiet Monday staff was out on course cleaning tee areas and emptying rubbish baskets. Greens were clean and played evenly.
Lots of elevation changes.
Hope you've got those hanging lie shots down pat. This course is very well maintained. Very friendly staff & the pace of play was very reasonable. I'll be back.
Some unique holes and greens were in great condition.
This track is cut through a path and is not an up and down course.
Excellent condition
Challenging enough, but plenty of opportunities to score well. Many blind tee shots, so first time playing the course you can be surprised with what you thought was a good (or bad) tee shot
