8th: A threesome is engaged in putting the eighth green. From my experience, for many golfers this is a challenging par-3–particularly from the back tees. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/28/2025

7th: This par-4/5 hole is one of the toughest at Pomperaug. Its fairway curves from left to right around a long water hazard to the right, out of bounds left. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/28/2025

First hole: Pomperaug is a scenic, natural looking course with very little housing or other buildings near it, except (briefly) to the left of the first hole and second tee. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/01/2025

Eighth green: A complex golf hole that features water, ample bunkering, and a raised and large bi-level green, which provides a variety of options for pin placements. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/01/2025

Ninth hole, par-4, 314 yards: A mishit wedge or 9-iron just won’t cut it when your approach shot “attempts” to cross the Pomperaug River. This is an excellent drive-and-pitch golf hole. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 06/01/2025

Eight is a solid par-3, playing 138, 156 and 196 yards from the red, white and blue tees, respectively. I’ve seen many golf balls disappear into this pond. Photo submitted by AptlyLinked on 08/15/2024

Good Outing at Pomperaug
Enjoyed playing this course on a perfect summer’s day. Pomperaug is a solid nine-holer that is recovering from flood damage in 1994. They’ve made some genuine progress. Even since this spring, there have been noticeable improvements that are restoring the layout’s playability. True, the summer heat has taken its toll a bit and, as such, some of the grasses look a little browned out, but I found course conditions manageable nonetheless. The greens and fringes were impressive overall.
Breakdown of conditions:
Fringes and greens were mostly excellent–they ran smoothly and predictably; greenside roughs average; roughs average, tees fair. Generally, too much crabgrass is intermingled with fairway roughs–and some greenside. The bunkers were very good. Fairways are still below average, yet have improved to a great extent since last year and (I would guess) incrementally since this spring.
Some conclusions:
I always enjoy playing this layout, as maybe the biggest aspect of scoring well here is thinking your way around it. It’s also impressive that the management here has taken seriously the restoration of playing conditions. Playing pace was a bonus: 1 hour/30 minutes. The gentleman at the front counter–someone I hadn't met before–was very friendly and helpful!

Good course for all levels
Tommy the pro is awesome
The course is short
Easy greens
Water and sand all around
Great course, excellent value
I played Pomperaug with my Dad yesterday. Had a great time. Course is open, pace of play was great. The greens were in pristine condition. Superb value and I’ll be coming back here frequently.
Another great round
Another great round. I was paired up with other novice golfers and got through the course pretty quickly. There was some delay due to a private event earlier in the morning. Nevertheless, the ranger came out and apologized for the delay. We had no issues as pace of play was still moving along well. Will certainly schedule another round at the course.
Always impressed!
Morning tee time and was paired up with a twosome. Pace of play was a little slow due to an earlier event but was still able to have a great round. Staff members apologized for the delay and were totally accommodating to players needs. Did not feel rushed or thrown off by pace of play. As always, had a great day in the course and have been impressed each time I come out to the course for a round. Will absolutely play here again!
Cant beat the price
It's very hard to play a quick round of affordable golf these days. This course is perfect to practice my game, and I also bring my kids here all the time. They did get destroyed by a flood last year, so the recovery is pretty amazing considering. If you keep your ball on the fairway and the green, you will never know it was flooded out. If you don't hit that far off the tee, you will catch some dirt patches on the par 5 but other than that, it is a nice little track for the money.
When I played this morning, it was wide open, and I went around in 75 mins solo. I only know 1 other course within 30 miles that you can walk 9 for $20 and have tee boxes, fairways and well-kept greens.
The course is not as well maintained as it used to be. Greens were slow, fairways were patchy with dirt and the pace of play was bad as it took us 3 hours to play 9 holes. If they hired a starter/ranger to push pace of play and did some major work to the course it would be worth paying an extra few dollars for.
Excellent course
Despite a damp and cloudy morning, a great round was still had. I signed up again because of the early tee time and pace of play. The clubhouse pro greeted me by first name upon check in and was very gracious. I played solo and got through the course in under 90 minutes. A nice gentleman was walking by ahead of me and let me play through. Couldn’t be any nicer! Ran into the group that played with me and ahead of us from the week prior. They were also very friendly. Overall, another great round and will certainly book more rounds at the course.
Great course
Great course to play. Second time and had a much better round given the conditions (first time was after a few days of rain). Clubhouse staff were very friendly and accommodating. Enjoyed a great round. Will definitely sign up again.
