Very nice golf course
3/31The course is in good condition there happened to be some cleanup going on (time of yr) with very loud machine noises at a few holes but overall very enjoyable golf day.
Thanks, Sterling Farms and Golf Now for providing an early New England season, enjoyable golf experience.
Best regards,
Will and Patty
Interesting layout
I've played this course several times in the past and I do like the layout. Yeah, the greens are fast there are some really challenging par threes. go head check it out!
Getting Better
I played at Sterling last week and it was one of the most enjoyable rounds I've had all year! About 5 of the greens took a hit with the heat this summer but still are not too bad, all is open and very playable. The greens have definitely improved from when I played last in August. I've played here many times in the past and the course conditions and layout are always spectacular and I'm sure all will be back to normal very soon.
Waste of a day
WARNING: A number of the front nine greens were burned out, punched and reseeded - what a joke. They were absolutely horrible, and it's unconscionable that they don't mention this when you book your tee time.
I played this course often when I was a Stamford resident. I went back looking to capture some of that fun. I do remember long rounds there, which is why I haven't played in a couple years, but I was willing to see if that was rectified. It was horrible. We waited on every hole, just about every shot. A 5.5 hour round is inexcusable. I was a dope for waiting it out.
Greens
Love this golf course. Unfortunately the drought has rendered the green unplayable. Really bad. We'll be back in the fall when they've gotten some rain and hopefully the greens will return.
Disappointed
Sterling Farms is usually in great shape. Unfortunately no staff member mentioned that they had lost most of their greens on the front 9. The greens on the back 9 were better but not in good condition as in the past.
I would have appreciated some advanced information on the condition of the greens. The course itself was in good condition.
Excellent greens, slow pace of play
Course conditions- generally very good Excellent greens
Pace of play -way to slow. Need to have rangers moving players Should not have a 5 hour round on a Monday
Very Rude Staff
Where to start with this one, When we first showed up to play the guy at the tee time box was already giving me attitude about not being on the tee. After explaining to him this was our first time there and we did not know where to go he just gave me a dirty look. When i went to get my score card the guy got all excited and told be that i should be on the tee box. That basically set the tone for how the rest of the day was going to go with members of the Goon squad. After completing 3 holes another member of the goon squad who looked like a washed up member o a 90's boy band came and yelled at the 4 of us and told us this was the official warning because the group of 3 behind us were waiting at the box . I told him we were going as fast as we could with 4 people and that its not hard for a group of 3 to catch up with a group of 4. After arguing with this guy for about 5 minutes he told us to have fun and drove off ,, after getting yelled at some more by various members of the Goon squad and getting rushed the whole game its safe to say i will never go back here
Unsatisfied
Staff was not the friendliest and they should be careful as to why they say about other golfers over their walkie talkies. Pace of play was fine but golf gets stressful when your rushed. I didn't appreciate being given a card telling me where to be at what time and when I was no more than 10 minutes behind reminded. It's a municipal course, all levels will play, and pace of play will be affected because so. Players should all be aware of this going into play.
Most stuffy municipal course I have ever played
Debating not playing again with group even though of its convenience to home
Great Course
Played at 3pm on a weekday in mid-April. Pace of play was great and course conditions for this time of year were very good. Fast greens, some small aeration holes, but nothing major. In a few weeks, the course will probably be flawless.
Course maintained better than many private clubs
Fast greens, friendly fairways, and no leaves! Great time, not the longest par 4s but shot placement is important.
Nice course.. more difficult than the rating
The green is chanllenging.. every green is different.. Overall the Course is pretty difficult (from Blue Tee).. even the rating is not that high..
Interesting layout. Great condition.
November golf in the NY metro area is always iffy. And never crowded. I hear it's not easy to get on in the summer. But it's condition was excellent. Green's were fast and true and the layout very interesting with doglegs that required shorter placements. I'll play it again.
Sterling farms golf club
Very nice and challenging course. Super friendly and helpful staff.
Played for the first time and loved it so much that I decided to play another round on the same day.The greens are in great shape and are running very fast.
Public golf at its best!
I had heard that this place was good, but never expected it to be this good. Great condition, friendly staff, great price. The greens, tees and fairways rival country clubs. It's late in the season (October) so it was not too busy and pace of play was fine at 4.5 hours. I'm sure that in season it may take longer because it must be VERY busy being so nice. Lives up to everything I had heard, challenging but a lot of fun! Par 3 holes are amazing and very difficult which may add to the time it takes to play.
It even has a double tiered, heated driving range that is open day and night.
HIGHLY RECCOMEND!!!! I can't wait to go back

Thanks for the nice comments. Hope to see you back soon!
This is the slowest and rudest course, they should instead pay you to play there.
Played at disgustingly and dreadful slow pace. Had a 4-some of old men who played from blue tees and could not get the their balls past the ladies tees. or in the fairway. After nearly 3 hrs. to play the front nine. The 4-some I was with skipped the 10 th hole to start back nine from 11 just to get ahead of this group which had an open hole ahead of them for the entire front nine. Then on the 11th hole, one of the guys from the group we skipped by demanded that we play behind them and not skip ahead of them, I adamantly refused to do that. as one of walked up to our tee box, and took my ball from the tee as I was about to hit and stood in front. Better judgement prevailed and I did not tee off with this absolute moron in front of me, but believe me, I wanted to. Never have I encountered such a rude group of men on a golf course. I played only 12 holes as darkness required the return of the golf cart.
I will be seeking a full refund from GOLFNOW.COM, as I was unsuccessful when I brought this to attention to the course ranger and starter office.

We apologize for your experience at the golf course, unfortunately from time to time we do get groups that are novices and do not know proper golf etiquette. We will investigate as to who was in the group. Obviously it was also not handled correctly by our staff and we will address that. Hope you will give us another chance as we assure you that is not the norm at Sterling.
Thank you!
This course shouldn't take over 5 hours to play
Nice course in nice condition. No reason it should be so slow. Took 50 minutes to play 2 holes. Never saw a Ranger. Nothing wrong with politely asking people to keep pace. Very frustrating. Really detracts from this great game.

We apologize for your experience. Being the Columbus Day holiday and very warm, it was a very, very busy day for us and anyone who teed off after 1pm, the rounds were on the long side. I assure you this is not the norm and we are working on scheduling our staff better to address any slow play issues. We hope you come back again so we can prove it to you!
Thanks
Green were punched
I would have appreciated information about the green being punched , prior to booking

We apologize for the miscommunication, this should have been posted by GOLFNOW prior to your booking. We will make sure the GOLFNOW staff will post when our greens are aerated in the future. Glad you enjoyed the golf course, hope you come back when our greens are back in shape!
Thanks
Pace of play alone is enough
Calling it "pace" of play if overstating it - there was no pace to it. Unfortunately, this. really bothered one of the players we were paired up with - which made it even worse. Not that it didn't bother us - it did - but nothing we could do about it. Never thought I'd say this but the rangers were too nice.
