Course Thinker Clubhouse Stinker
Put a 10-mile radius around GCI and I dare you to find a better value for the money. The course is long, tough and the greens are great. Every time I play GCI I am frustrated because this course demands being a great putter, which I am not. Bent grass fairways, well-maintained greens and long but fair rough are pluses. When looking at hole #13 you may be a touch uninspired the first time you play it but come back and I'll guarantee you'll appreciate it. The negatives: #18 leaves you saying "What the?" You play 17 magnificent holes and then you get to 18 and it's as beige as a hole can get. The clubhouse also needs a mad renovation. It feels more like your friend’s garage retrofitted to a man cave. Dear GCI, give this course a proper 19th hole and spice up #18.
Really nice course
The course is maintained really well. Greens were fantastic, pleasure to play.
Definitely a must play
Meant to play here for years and it was worth the wait. Hole 11 is a long par 5. One of the longest in the state. Yes I missed my birdie putt. Such a great day for golf and even better place to spend it. Greens were fast with lots of breaks. Course reminds me of Harbourside in many ways. Only negative was that the sand traps were thin.
Challenging, but very playable
Well maintained and laid out, excellent staff and with a coupon, a fantastic deal.
Course in good shape
Pace of play was perfect, no waiting. Staff is very friendly. Greens were accurate.
What a wonderful course!
I am preparing for the GCAM Tour season and decided to play this as my last course of the season. With the handicap system I played the blue tees (pro tees.) Accuracy is a must as there are a lot a hills and sand traps. Houses and water are in play on quite a few holes. Watch the wind though as this course is an open course with little amount of trees. It was blowing around 30mph when I played. Knowing how to shape a shot into play is very helpful. Fast rolling greens which are difficult to read which makes this course one of the top if not the top hardest course I played in 30 years. I played Dubsdread and this course was a lot tougher than Cog Hill. A WONDERFUL course to play especially for the value. Highly recommend trying out this course.
Great Course in great condition!
Great course for the price. Well maintained and very challenging. Good tee box options for different skill level golfers.
Great Course
Tough course. Shots have to be accurate. Bring lots of balls. The fescue eats them up.
Course in good shape with fast greens
Course was in good shape. Greens are pretty fast, try not to be above the hole. Play was a bit slow for a Monday, but they had a tournament in the AM and an outing in the PM. Some bunkers were very shallow with limited sand.
Course played very good; excellent conditions.
I played w/ my 15 year old son at GCI and there was a 90 man umpires golf outing before us. There was a lot of drinking going on and I thought there were several avoidable issues that went unaddressed. First, way too much drinking went on; after all this wasn't a college frat. party. Secondly the pace of play was extremely slow as the golfers were far more concerned about their beers than they were about the pace of play. Along w/ this was their amateurish use of horns. Lastly the marshalls did nothing to speed up the pace and get some of the drunks off the course. I was extremely disappointed as my son and I ended up walking off the course after the 16th hole. I don't plan to return to GCI in the near future at this time.
This COULD be a great course.
Fast greens which were good for putting.
Greens would not hold any approach shots.
Distance markers were accurate.
Fairways were fair and fast.
Bunkers were the absolute worst part of the course with no sand to allow a proper bunker shot. There were mud and clay marks on my club after hitting a bunker shot. This is the sole reason I would not play nor recommend this course again.
Kind of a combination of links and target golf
You can count the trees on this course with your fingers and toes. There isn't much water in play (although 2 par 3 holes require all carry over water). Links style, right? Well, not exactly. The bunkers are USA-style all the way, right down to the thin sand, and there isn't much in true run-up to the greens. I call it a links/target hybrid, and a wonderful place to spend 4+ hours
Nice links course. Has an almost 700yd hole to challenge big hitters. Fastest golf carts in the world.
Nice course nice course nice course nice course bye
Challenging Course
I haven't played this course in years, but I found it to be as good as I remembered.
The course was very well maintained, clean carts, clean club house, friendly staff.
Other than no GPS in carts, nothing to complain about.
Also, no gimmes on the putting.
Good value comparative to others
This course is in very good shape and a very good layout for the price.
Most courses that compare are in the low $70's (overpriced).
If you don't need all of the bells and whistles, just want a nice golf course for the money, this is the place.
We will be back.
Nice course; well maintained; friendly staff
Have played this course before and have been pleased each time. I was able to save 50% with GolfNow which made it an even better experience!
nice prairie style course that wont set you back $60 +
I felt like it was slow but actually wasn't. I was playing by myself. Still finished in 4.25h
Interesting green complexes
We played in 2h57m on Saturday morning, second group out. Course was in good shape, but as we played we noticed the pin positions were in some very interesting places on the greens. The greens here are very pitched and can be quite severe. If the greens were really fast, there were some positions on that day where one couldn't keep the ball on the green. Overall, an enjoyable course that can be made very difficult with the extreme pin placement and a bit of wind.
