Turnberry Country Club

Greens were inconsistent. It was early in the day and some of the greens were flooded with water from the maintenance team. A few of the greens on the back nine had been recently aerated and made for uneven and irregular putting. I was not made aware of these conditions at check-in.

Cart Shortage ! Due to an outing that slowed down the non-Outing tee times after Noon we had to wait 45 minutes for a cart for our twosome! Lots of frustrated golfers standing around waiting for carts. They had 7 broken ones according to staff lady! I said where is the ranger to keep pace of play? She said there was no one as a ranger!

I don’t normally leave reviews, but the course management here was poor enough that I felt it was worth sharing our experience.

We drove up from Northwest Indiana specifically to play here and take our 14-year-old nephew golfing. We arrived about 10 minutes before our scheduled tee time and were told there were no carts available, but that we were second in line waiting for one. After waiting for a while, we learned we were actually the third group waiting, and more golfers continued arriving for their tee times with no carts available for them either.

What made the situation especially frustrating was the complete lack of management while this was happening. For roughly 30 minutes, virtually no one came through the 18th hole to return carts. When a group finally did reach 18, they appeared to be part of an outing and were in absolutely no hurry despite at least 10 people visibly standing behind the green waiting for carts. One woman was using a bullhorn to call over to those of us waiting and ask why we weren’t clapping for her shot. The group then spent another five or six minutes searching in multiple directions for a lost ball.

There was a course employee standing there with all of us waiting for carts, but no one stepped in to move things along. There didn’t appear to be a starter or ranger managing pace of play, despite the obvious backup. Even once carts were returned, groups ahead of us took them to their cars and didn’t come back for another 10–15 minutes.

By the time we finally received a cart, we were approximately 50–55 minutes past our scheduled tee time. The group returning it actually warned us that the cart wasn’t working properly, but after waiting that long and having no idea when another one would become available, we took it anyway. The cart broke down completely on hole 5, and we had to call the clubhouse to have someone come out.

At that point, between starting more than an hour late, the cart breaking down, and the rain, we decided to call it and leave. We could have asked for a rain check, but frankly, we knew we wouldn’t make the trip back.

The course itself was fine, although the cart paths could definitely use some maintenance. Had the cart situation and pace of play been properly managed, I probably wouldn’t be writing a review at all. But having insufficient carts is one thing; having multiple groups waiting nearly an hour past their tee times while staff make no effort to manage the backup is another.

We regularly travel to play different courses and were happy to make the drive for this one, but unfortunately we would not return. The biggest issue wasn’t the course itself. It was the lack of basic organization and oversight that turned what should have been a fun afternoon of golf with our nephew into an incredibly frustrating experience.

day started out with no one in pro shop to check you in. waited 15 minutes, still no one. Pro shop looked rundown and empty of any merchandise. carts were in horrible condition. Ran into a bleached blond old man who was running around screaming at everyone. found out later he was the owner. what a clown!! Explains why the whole place is a joke. the course is in horrible condition. rough is 6-8 inches high and grass clippings covered the fairways causing everyone to have to search for their ball on nearly every shot. Pace of play horrible! greens in terrible shape as well as traps. do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. TOTAL waste of time and money!! ZERO STARS

Used to be a member and loved playing this course. Not sure what has happened recently but course is in Awful shape. Shaggy fairways and greens and bunkers a mess. Very disappointed

Used to play this course a lot back in the day. Loved it. So excited about my tee time and so disappointed in the condition of the course. Fairways and greens is terrible shape. Bunkers even worse. It’s so sad how this course has fallen on hard times.

This used to be my favorite course when I started playing back in 2021. Every year it seems like it getting worse in terms of overall maintenance/ upkeep. The only thing I can count on for this course is how wide open the tee times are. I can usually get out as a 1-2some pretty consistently. Today was the worst condition I’ve ever played in the 15+ times I’ve gone here. Fairway grass was long and spongy, rough was borderline US open rough, bunkers had rocks everywhere, I’d say just play and see for yourself but if there’s one thing to take away from this, I’d say save your money and play else where. Sad because this is one of my favorite course layouts.

For a course that was spectacular when it was private it’s gone down hill. Nothing on pro shop bar not open and no starter or staff around. Greens were in good shape but shaggy. Fairways need work and bunkers full of rocks. Players don’t seem to understand to take the bunkers. Never seen anything like it. Layout is its best attribute. Owners need to invest some money. Could be a top public course if they cared

This is a course that I was a member at 15 years ago. At that time it was in great shape. I was really looking forward to playing it again. My wife and I were really disappointed with the condition of the course. Even around the greens were brown. We won’t be returning.

Good course in the middle of Lakewood, IL. I like to play there every once in a while. Beautiful course and surroundings. Driving range is a little pricy.... but all in all, a great course!

This course was probably awesome back when it was a CC. It is a pretty layout but tired now. It reminds me of chapel Hill and the former village greens in terms of conditions and clientele. Houses on the course are pretty to look at, but they must be bummed the course is what most of us would call a dog track. Happy I finally played there as I wanted to for a very long time. Probably would not play again unless super cheap price and I was super desperate for a place to play last minute. Oh well.
