Reviews
Solid shape
Playing here for 5 decades, I’ve seen Delcastle in all conditions. Currently, in as good of shape as it’s been in years. Greens are full, but a bit slower then expected. Tee boxes and bunkers were mostly good with a few exceptions.
A 5+ hour round should never happen. It completely takes away from enjoying the day when your waiting on almost EVERY shot.
Rainy Day Sunshine
Originally scheduled for 8:42, but rain made us change to 12:27. Staff called to update regarding “walking only before 2pm”, moved to 2:27. Changed a 3rd time as rain persisted. Completed the round in 3.5 hours walking. Course was in excellent shape in spite of rain. In spite of conditioned, scored my lowest round of the year. Play here over 75 rounds per year.
Main point was the consideration of the staff in ensuring we got our Thursday round in in spite of conditions. This is typical for this exceptional staff. We’ll managed… starts at the top. As an annual member, actual cost per round falls below $25. Played 5 different public courses the past three weeks in Delaware and Virginia. Delcastle was the best and clearly the best value.
Best Value and Professionalism
Joined as a 365 member 3 years ago with 10 other friends and play this course 80-100 times a year. Exceptionally well maintained course and great value. What really makes the experience special is their staff. Matt, Glen, Steph, Jared, George, Jimmy, to name a few are friendly, professional and very customer oriented.
A special mention for the extraordinary upgrades to their food service, with a specific shout out to Stephanie.
Very good value
For $37, it’s a great public course value for getting a round in in the evening. Greens were average speed but consistent and healthy. Good variation hole to hole, pretty wide open off of most tees so grip it and rip it. Bunkers were rough but the recent rains didn’t help that. Will be back soon!
Early spring
As expected the course is short on warm weather and staff. The greens are expected for spring. The staff and starter are very personable and friendly.
Well worth a visit
Course in great shape for early season
Our twosome played the course in about three hours and 45 minutes. The fairways were in good shape and the deep rough had been trimmed. Although the greens had been recently fertilized, I did not find that an impediment to putting. Currently the sand traps were in good shape with adequate sand. We experienced an enjoyable day of golfing.
Good course when you need to knock the rust off.
I've played Delcastle a million times and I always find it fun. It's not difficult and it's usually in the average price range for a course in the area. Not much of a pro shop, but the bar is always accessible. Overall a good course, but not great. Good for when you need to get back in the swing of things.
