Deerfield Golf & Tennis Club

About
Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Del., is a 145-acre public course, billed as a “natural treasure.” The 18-hole championship course gets the moniker thanks to its surroundings -- the ancient forest of White Clay Creek State Park. The 145-acre play, acquired by the state of Delaware in 2005, is a par-70, 6,323-yard golf course that features rolling terrain, smooth bent grass putting surfaces and scenic vistas. The mix of memorable, distinctive holes adds to the difficulty, as does the memorable, heavily wooded setting and dramatic elevation changes. Before or after your round at Deerfield Golf Club, enjoy the large putting green, full-service practice range, or lighted tennis and paddleball courts.

Nice layout
Can’t go wrong playing here!! Elevations very and it’s challenging! Well kept!!
Good Course. Definitely need to play twice.
Played on a beautiful afternoon.
Course is in tremendous condition. Greens and Fairways were very green. Tee boxes spread out to allow healing for different sections. Greens have a ton of undulation.
Not an easy course to walk. Two holes had 50+ feet drops or inclines, each.
One major downside is the number of blind shots, either up or downhill doglegs.
It is fall golf, so lots of difficulty in finding golf balls in rough.
Rough is very thick, more do than a typical public course.
I got it for under 50 w/ cart, but cart path so had to walk plenty.
Will definitely be back.
Nice condition . Difficult course
Beautiful course, most on the mountain angles so you don't know where your ball is going unless you play this a few times.. Recommend if you want a challenge.. We played with a local so we got lots of tips.
Leaf control
I did this review prior but they insist on a review.
The course has a leaf control issue early and most of the leaves are gathering around the greens which leads to LOST BALLS within 25’ of the fringe. It was frustrating since several holes are blind, you know it’s close but it’s GONE. GRRRRRR
Only need the leaves mulched not blown or the staff passes out 2 sleeves of balls for the failure to address the issue. No reason for this.
But this course is great, trying, demanding and just plain fun.
Great course
Great layout, excellent condition, friendly and accommodating staff. My favorite course in this area. Challenging and fun. Their 19th hole is very good, too.
Ok but nothing to write home about
Your round starts with a par 5 that goes out 350-375 and then turns left 90degrees and drops about 40 feet. Its driver wedge and wedge. Poor design. The rest of the course is fine. Blind tee shots make it hard for a visitor to enjoy the round. Conditions were good. Nice people in the pro shop and greeters. Not bad just not a “must come back”
enjoyable Day
The weather was hot, but had a breeze. Course was is very good shape, somewhat challenging. The ball never seems to be on flat groung, either above or below feet. should be a stop for any golfer.
Never lost a ball
If you know Deerfield, you know how rarely that gets said. Having played here a couple dozen times, and being a bogey golfer, let’s just call it a good day. I birdied the last hole for my lowest score at Deerfield, 89!
From the white tees, plays 6000+ yards. The par 3 8th hole was playing 217 yards! ( little over 200 on the card). I caught a couple bunkers early and had no issues getting out of any of them. 85-90% tee to green. A few tee boxes could use a little love. Recent rain softened up things, but made everything visually appealing. Greens a bit slower than expected, cause of the rain, but are in very nice shape for summer.
The only time you will be swinging the club on a level footing is off the tee. All sorts of different evaluation changes makes it extremely challenging.
I recommend Deerfield to everyone and will definitely return.
Brothers at Deerfield
Deerfield Golf Club is a very nice venue with rolling hills and narrow fairways. The course was in great condition and made more challenging due to heavy rains that passed earlier that morning.
The play was slow (almost 5 hours) due to the cart path only rule and the greens were slow due to the rain or possibly not being cut that morning.
We would definitely play there again!
Thank you for keeping the course open
Fun round of golf. Rain off and on all day. The course held up well. Finished in a casual sub 3 hours. You can’t ask for much more. Every bit of 6,000 yards from the whites. A lot of hills and valleys. Cart path only can be tough for the guys who don’t like walk.
Can’t beat for the price. Challenging
Tough and challenging course in great condition.
Not for bombers and sprayers…requires skill and shot making. Lots of sidehill, uphill, downhill lies.
Good test and fun if you have under 20 handicap.
If over 20, you will not enjoy you day… try someplace else.
Best deal around
Always kept in tip-top shape, Deerfield offers the best bang-for-your-buck in the Northern Delaware area. Definitely a shot makers course as the course is not overly lengthy. Highly recommended!
Nice course to play on a Saturday afternoon, we booked a tee time after 1 pm hoping to miss the morning crowds. We did get behind a father and daughter. The dad was teaching the young lady (adult) and they slowed up the course quite a bit. Deerfield needs a ranger to move these folks along or let others pass.
Clearly greens crew not up to speed
The course is as always challenging and if you’re playing well it’s a blast
I was surprised that the greens we very patchy and slower than I expect at this course
I’ll still return cause if the challenge
