AWFUL
My round took 6 plus hours. That should never happen. I will never go back.
Where are ou
Every time we golf there the front desk girl is late.
It's getting annoying. Having a tee time at 8 while she shows up at 8:05 is unacceptable.
Please feel free to call the golf shop at 302.998.9505 x 4 and ask for the General Manager so we can speak in person regarding your continued comments regarding this. Thanks!
It happens every week. Not a professional course at all!!
Thank you for playing Delcastle Golf Course! We open at 8am during the offseason months and your tee time was 8:07am this past Saturday. In the future, please feel free to email us at info@delcastlegc.com or call 302.998.9505 to discuss any concerns you may have. Thanks for playing Delcastle and we look forward to seeing you on the course soon!
Course conditions
The number 1 and number 2 holes were closed due to construction. I think this should be advertised as such.
Friendly enjoyable course
Great value, and v accessible. Interesting fairways and well kept greens.
Sometimes Time Is Not On Your Side
After a 35 year hiatus, I returned to what I remember as a challenging but well conditioned layout at DelCastle. This is yet another instance where time did not heal any wounds. Unfortunately you could smell the diseased grass right on the first tee.
The tees were scrappy at best with a rather long mow on the grass that was there. The fairways were like concrete and had plenty of bare spots. The rough was like hitting into tumbleweed connection. The greens were relatively smooth but had crab grass growing into them ... but they were very 'spongy' and slow.
It's a shame because the layout I remember was challenging but fair. The course layout does allow you to hit an errant drive fro the most part and still have a shot you can advance so a great track if your not a straight hitter.
I must say the staff was friendly and the starter was great on this day when the temperature topped out at about 95Degrees! All in all it was a fair price fro the round $30 with cart but it was just so disappointing based on overall conditions. I hope that conditions improve but I can't really recommend the course right now.
Just another note: They really don't have true forward ( Sr) tees. But it didn't matter because I was generally at or inside 150yds from the white tees ( and in some cases blue tees) because of hard conditions.
Thank you for playing Delcastle! This summer really took a toll on the golf course due to the lack of rainfall and an outdated irrigation system. We can confidently say that now, after just completing our $1 million dollar renovation project, that those days are a thing of the past at Delcastle! We just installed a Brand New, State-of-the-art Irrigation System that will provide optimal playing conditions year round. We can't wait to show off the NEW and IMPROVED Delcastle in 2016!
Good Value
This course is great for the occasional golfer who has control problems off the tee. Many errand shots can still be played. The course offers a challenge to the better player and an enjoyable round to the novice.
Thank you for your comments! We, too, enjoy being able to play our wayward drives from quite a few spots at Delcastle! Hope to see you at the course again soon!
Lush true greens
Delcastle is improving each year under the Billy Casper golf ownership. The greens were true and fairways and tees improving. Tough rough added to the challenge. Good value!
Thank you for your AWESOME comments! We are always trying to improve Delcastle. Did you know that we will be installing a brand new, state-of-the-art irrigation system this fall? We can't wait for everyone to see the finished product! Happy golfing and we hope to see you at the course again soon!
DelCastle
My wife and I played 18 holes. The course was in excellent shape. The pace of play was great. Never had to wait. We were paired up with two brothers who were enjoyable to play golf with. Victoria in the pro shop was delightful and helpful as always. As usual, a very good experience.
Thank you for your comment! We are SO happy that you had a great time at Delcastle and hope to see you again soon!
New Golfer
I am a new golfer. Have been taking lessons since this Spring and this was only my second round of 9 holes, and my first time on this course. I am writing a review mainly because I wanted to express my appreciation to the staff and to the players who I was paired with for the friendly, encouraging, and accommodating attitude towards a new golfer. I felt totally welcomed and can't imagine a better experience for someone trying to learn a really challenging sport at the age of 61.
Thank you for the great comments. We truly appreciate it and hope to see you at the course again soon!
great day for pace
Played 18 in 3 hours with a friend. No delays at all. I wish this were the norm for typical pace.
Wow that was a fast round! We are glad you had a great time and we too wish that was the normal pace of play! Hope to see you at the course again soon!
Great course and great price
This is a great course to play on. It has some holes that pose a few problems but most are straightforward. Be sure to practice some sloped lies before you come because you are sure to have the ball above and below your feet on this course. Greens are in pretty good shape and same with the tee boxes.
Thank you for the great feedback. We truly appreciate it and hope to see you at the course again soon!
First time impressions
Pleasantly surprised at the condition of this course. In nice shape with an assortment of some interesting holes. Only problem was it was pretty busy, with a lot of dads and their kids. So it made it a slow 5 1/2 round. I would suggest, not only here but everywhere, that when a course becomes really crowded, they should require everyone to ride. Walkers really slow down a busy course, especially if they cant hit the ball straight. Otherwise I would play here again. Its priced fairly.
Thank you for your feedback. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to see you again soon! This was a busy day and pace was a little slow but that isn't the norm at Delcastle. Happy Golfing!
To the contrary, I worked for several years at a course, and it was riders that slowed the pace of play. When walking, a person goes to his/her ball only, not two players going to each ball. When carts are required to stay on paths or there is a 90 degree rule, it slows the pace of play further. Healthy walkers can usually play in 3-3.5 hours while riders more often take 4-5 hours to play the same course - walkers can take shortcuts whereas carts cannot. When both riders stop each time to remove and then return clubs to a bag instead of holding onto the most recently used club and put it back only while taking the next, that adds to the length of play. I'm certain that private, "walking only" clubs have much faster paces of play than do courses that rely heavily on carts, which are money machines for the course and encouraged to increase clubs' daily profits. "Purer" golf, carrying a bag and walking is a glorious experience. Driving and getting in and out of a cart is just about zero exercise; furthermore, the riders are deprived of the visual pleasures of walking to, and planning in advance, the next shot. In my experiences, the worst thing to see on a course is a group of twenty-somethings who believe they've paid for an unlimited rental of the course to drink beer and smoke cigars. That is the slowest of all possible groups, save for an octogenarian group who each takes ten shots before getting near the green - and they all rarely replace divots and falsely think that myriad mulligans are part of golf. Foursomes of bag-toting walkers are joy to behold. If this seems "harsh", it is because it is the truth.
Delcastle Golf
Well worth the $$. Staff was courteous and accommodating. Was paired up with 2 local members both of whom were very friendly and knowledgeable
about the course. I was passing thru on my way home to NY and throughly enjoyed golfing here. Would not hesitate to play here again. Course was in very nice condition.
Thank you so much for stopping by Delcastle on your way back to NY. We truly appreciate the feedback!
Happy Golfing!
Army Veteran Review
The staff is extremely friendly. Beautiful course.
Thank you for your comments and more importantly thank you for your service! We truly appreciate it!
Moderatly difficult.
I enjoy this course for its speed of play and moderate difficulty.
Pace of Play
My tee time was 5:09 and I was able to get off about 4:40 PM. However, there had been an outing and the parking lot was on overflow. People were still finishing Nearly every one we encountered was a rank beginner.
The group behind us hit into us 3 times and spoke not English so we could not communicate with them.
We thought we were at the end of the putting but that turned out to be wrong. We have played Del Castle many times and this was very unusual. Some etiquette tips should be distributed to people on outings.
We did not have time to visit the 19th hole.
Thank you for your review! We truly appreciate it! We understand your frustration about pace of play. We have developed a beggining golfer guide which includes ettiquete among other helpful tips. We will be providing this to as many new golfers as we can. Thank you and we hope to see you soon!
Good condition, nice course
The weather was great and the course was in pretty good condition. The sand traps were well cared for and rough wasn't too deep. It plays pretty open, with very few narrow fairways. Good course for beginners and intermediate players.
Thank you for the great review! We hope to see you at the course soon!
Good Municiple course
The routing of the holes makes this an interesting course. There is lots of elevation on some holes which makes club selection more difficult.
Overall, its a fun course.
Thank you for the review! We are glad you had a fun time playing Delcastle and hope to see you out at the course soon!
Billy Casper's Least Value
The course, specifically the greens, have been better this year. (Great weather and no drought helps) But the greens are still slow and don't break but the faintest bit, half of the holes have rings and the course is so left so roughly manicured that the difference between rough and fairway is blurred.
By far the least value of the three "competitively priced" Billy Caspar courses in the area, but the only one that has enough length to make long hitters take a driver out of the bag if they're playing smart. Avoid if possible.
Delcastle
Enjoyed the course. I played in the fall so there were leaves in the rough that could make finding a miss hit ball harder. There is not much that can be done about that though. Overall good experience. The ranger was very friendly. I would play again
Thank you for your comments! I've already spoken to a few people from your group. A small golf outing unfortunately backed up the course on Saturday. While your round didn't take as long as you stated, it was above our normal pace of play. Happy golfing in 2016!
