fast greens
The greens were fast and challenging and the course was in good shape I would play here again
Lets play until we can't stand it
I like Delcastle, but today, they overbooked and did not manage the course. Get out their Ranger Bob
Note to self; stay away on nice days, just not weekends
Love the hills!!!
Haven't played there in over two years....but, I remembered the course....love the hills! The weather was excellent...sunny....warm...light breeze...Beautiful autumn day for golf. Our friends from New Jersey played with us and they remembered this course, too!! The staff was very friendly. My husband and the other husband are jokesters and the staff played along with them. We will be going back b4 the end of the month.....Thank DelCastle for a perfect day!!!
Not in the best of condition
Many of the greens were either burnt out or had some kind of disease. Fairways were very spotty. You would think with the rain & mild summer the greens & fairways would be plush like the other courses in the area. But you get what you pay for. I would not pay more than the $34 green fee they charged me. Great for a practice round.
Course has fallen into really bad shape
Lets start off with it hasn't rained in 5 days but yet for some reason at 11 am you could see water flying up as you putted the ball. on the 9th hole a par 3 my ball plugged so bad only 15% of the ball was above the ground! The tee boxes we horrible and it was hard to find a clean lie in the fairways. Not to mention almost every hole was circle was torn up! this was not fun and a waist of my money. Last year it was ok. I mean not the best but still fun to go to. But now, there is no way! they need to clean up their act and their course before I go their again! (I should have taken pictures :( )

Nice course. Wish it was closer to us. Route 95 traffic was a killer.
nice course range near by
It is a nice course. Worth it to play at discounted rate. No irrigation on fairways, slated to be installed next year. Driving range is about 10 minutes away, it is not onsite.
Great Course, Poor Planning
I had a tee time for 10:37. I showed up at 10:25 to see a ton of people waiting to tee off and what looks like an event. So I go in, nobody is at the desk. Someone comes in and says they will get the person who works here. I planned on playing a relaxing game by myself, but they told me I was going to be playing with other people because an event had started at 10 that morning. So I grab my clubs, come down to the tee box and wait until 11:10 to finally tee off. 5 hours later at 4:00, we finally finish. Slow, slow day. 6 and 1/2 hours of my day to golf on this day. Course is pretty nice and taken of, but don't let a single make a tee time on a day when there is an event. If I hadn't pre paid online, I would have trusted my instincts and said forget it.
This is a good course.
The course was a little soggy in places on the date we played. But other then that it was very nice. I had one of my best rounds of golf ever. I would definitely play course again. Slower play due to the guys in front of us were walking course.
Oh, please. Walkers don't hold up the course as much as cart riders. Walkers go their respective balls to hit the next shot - it's not a buddy system like riders think it should be. Riders lose clubs more often that walkers and take time to retrace their steps. There are so many more reasons why good players walk, not the least of which is the physical connection to the course being played. Rubber tires do not transfer the same feeling. I guarantee that my friends and I can play faster than any four players in carts - even four carts and still take enough time to concentrate on each shot. 3-3.5 hours tops. We've done 2hrs and 50 minutes, have you?
Very disappointed
I played in the morning and they had no one remove the dew from the greens which made them extremely slow. They were also aerated very inconsistently, some filled with sand and some not. The tee boxes were also in very poor shape. I was overall very disappointed with the conditions.
9/13
Greens were pretty bad but it's bc of the end of season. But the girl at front desk or the starter should let you know that; they are clueless
Value
Great value for the tee time and great specials in the clubhouse
Disappointing Round at Delcastel
Did Delcastle get rid of their grounds keeper? I played Delcastle earlier on in the year and the fairways and tee boxes were in excellent shape. Sadly to say that was not the case when I played this past weekend. I don't know whether it was a cost cutting measure but they need to address the above mentioned diffenciencies with the course. They charge a pretty good amount of money for the course to be falling apart.
A municipal course that needs major improvement
The flashy website belies the poorly maintained course. Front nine is in awful condition, poor irrigation, un-manicured fairways, patches of hard dirt mixed with various states of grass, awful greens that are damaged with ball marks and poor maintenance. Cart paths are full of bumps and uneven pavement that are liabilities. Back nine is maintained better but holes are on top of each other with poorly placed tee boxes that put you in harm's way at every moment. Not worth it at $34, especially driving from S Jersey. The setting is the only redeeming quality here, trees and nature are the only inspiration. The course doesn't inspire focus or good play, it actually causes headaches.
wide open course
The course is starting to get work a little which is typical for a public course this time of year. The course is long enough but it is fairly open so it is forgiving. If you get a discount it is worth playing.
My Experience
This is just my opinion. Too many trees for me. I like more of a open course.
DeCastle
The course was very plain. It really did not leave a lot of surprises. There were a couple holes that were great with elevation changes especially number nine. However about 75% of the holes you knew what was happening because you could see the flag from the Teebox. The greens were in great shape. Some of the sand traps could use a bit more sand. Overall the course for the value was outstanding. We teed off at 6 AM and played 18 holes in less than two hours. Finding a golf course for each player for $30 to play 18 holes on Sunday morning when looking Saturday was a great experience.
Bad experience
My wife and I were in back of a foursome of guys who were drinking beer and playing bad golf. One man had a tee shirt and cutoff jean shorts and playing in bare feet. 2 holes they ran their cart in our fairway when we were hitting our shots. When I said something to them they wanted to fight me and cursed at my wife and I. Also on the last hole they took my wife ball. When we finished are round 5 in half hours later they were in the parking lot and wanted to fight me.
Great Beginner's Course
I have spent a lot of time at the Del Castle driving range over the past year or two. I love the facilities there, and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The staff is a reflection there at the golf course as well. However, when I drive up the road towards the driving range, there are always many lined up carts at the first tee. I'm not sure how they book their tee-times, but it probably isn't very well done.
Overall, the quality of golfers I saw on the course were pretty poor. Pace of play could have been much worse. Luckily, we were allowed to pass through a couple of groups.
Bang for your buck on this course is non-existent. I payed $29 through the GolfNow app. I probably shouldn't have paid more than $20.
However, the course is a great place for beginners to play. Short holes, slow greens, good beer specials.
Thank you for your comments! Our tee times are set at specific intervals much the same way that any other golf course does. The carts lined up on the first tee are the groups waiting to tee off and is not a reflection on how we book our times. It is merely where we stage the groups waiting to tee off. Delcastle is also one of the longest courses in Wilmington. It sounds like you are a very good golfer (much better than me!). Have you considered moving back a tee box or two? It is all the course you can handle from the White or Blue tee boxes. We also offer some of the most competitive rates on GolfNow and the golf course is in the best shape it ever has been in. We hope to see you back soon!
Way overbooked!
Got there bright and early for 7:37am tee time to find out they were booking every 4 min! There were about a dozen carts lined up waiting to tee off. First they told us 15 min behind. That went to 30 min. Starter wasn't even keeping us lined up by tee time. We worked it out amongst ourselves. Finally went off 45 min late then we were in hurry up and wait mode through the whole front nine. Back wasn't as bad because people dropped off. Why would you do that Delcastle?? Overall, still glad to be out playing but not nearly as enjoyable as it should have been!!
Thank you for your comment! May I ask what day you played? We definitely do not book tee times every four minutes! We find it unfortunate that you did not have an enjoyable day. May I also ask why you rated Food and Beverage as poor? Just trying to get an understanding of what we can do to improve your experience. Delcastle is in the best condition that it ever has and our rates through GolfNow are very competitive. We pride ourselves on providing a fun and enjoyable experience to every guest that frequents our facility and I want to ensure that we do that for you as well! We hope to see you back soon!
You planned to play by yourself? Maybe your private course would accommodate you, there is no public access course that sends singles off alone unless there is a monsoon or blizzard; otherwise, it is completely inefficient to have singles or two players lined up hole after hole. Single have no standing on most courses and cannot force his/her way through groups in front. Doing that might incur a few golf balls fired over your head.
