Good beginner course
If you can get a deal here for $40 or less its a good deal, I wouldnt pay over $40 though. It is usually in good shape. Its a forgiving course so its ideal for Novices. It still can be a fun course, and in no way is it a "bad" course. Just dont expect it being a White Clay or Deerfield.
Not Worth the going rate. Get a deal....Horrible staff
I've played Delcastle a number of times this year. I will say at the beginning of the season, it was in great shape and actually made me want to come back and play. That was the last time I saw it that way. I went out in the afternoon recently and had the worst time you can imagine while golfing. It left me with a poor taste in my mouth to where I did not want to return. Let me start off with my arrival. I had just come from Delcastles Driving range (which is not located on the course, you have to drive there). I was surprised to see that they had new machines that tee'd the ball up for you after you hit! How impressive!! I long dreamed for the day where I did not have to tee up my own ball on a driving range. I love their consideration for laziness. Once I got to the course, I had to ask where the money from the greens fees, cart sales, etc. went. (I basically asked if the course was a separate entity from the driving range. They proshop employee laughed a bit, and responded with yes...He then said the money earned at both places goes towards new upgrades for the course and driving range where needed. Ok great answer thanks. So we now know where the $55 greens fee goes...towards auto ball replacer machines instead of improving course quality. I was fine with that conversation. I walked out the proshop to the 'bar' area where a lady, mid 50's, was counting cash from the cart girl. She seemed frazzled, and used that as an excuse to completely ignore me. She did not say one word to me about if I could please wait, or if I needed help....nothing. I finally asked politely if they were still serving hotdogs. She scowled at me and said "you'll have to give me a minute".....wow. I only stayed just to see how this would go. Her attitude was so bad, even the young cart girl was displeased. Finally she got done counting and asked what I wanted. I said 'Just a hotdog, please'. She said thats it?! With a tone like I was wasting her time. The kitchen is directly behind the back wall of the bar. Literally the next room. She walked to the door way and yelled for a hotdog. I guess she got no response, so she then SCREAMED....3 more times for a hotdog. When i say screamed, I mean she was as loud as she could possibly get. The kitchen chef came out a minute later with my hotdog....he was as pleasant as can be. That lady alone made me vouch to never go back to this course. She was horrible, unprofessional and flat out nasty. I have not been back since. My other issue of this day was the pace of play, but this was not normal. There was a foursome on hole 4 I believe, on the green. I was on three tee. In front of me mid fairway was a twosome, on the green of hole three was a 3 some, on the tee of hole 4 was a twosome and in the fairway of hole 4 was a threesome....I am not joking about this. The group on four green was on the green for 15 minutes. Highfiving, being jovial having a good time. No problem with that, as long as your not affecting the good times of 5 other groups. So all-in-all, a horrible experience. It is only worth playing if you score a $20 deal of golfnow or ezlinks. Other than that, stay away.
Disappointing
disappointed, the course condition was poor, apparently no irrigation system and the heat wave damaged the fairways and greens. at the of $52 (discounted rate) this shouldn't be so. they should advise of the condition and further discount based on course conditions. Will not go back at time soon.
Great course for beginner golfers. The fairways and greens are in good shape.
A friend and I went out at 5:20 to try and squeeze in 18 holes. The course was in good condition although the greens were a bit slow. The only real complaint I have was the pace of play. I asked the gentlemen working in the pro shop if the course was crowded and he said no. After waiting 10 minutes to tee off on the first we spent the rest of the round waiting for the groups in front of us to find their balls and play their shots. We only ended up finishing 13 holes in 3 hours. Great course to play but the pace of play can be brutal.
Fun course, iffy conditions!
All of the fairways were grass covered, but sparse in some areas. Rough was a challenge -- thick and long. The greens had a lot of unrepaired ball marks so the greens did not always roll true and had many small, circular brown spots. With all the rain we have had, I really thought the course would be in better shape.
Overbooked; rude patrons.
Crowded, overbooked tee times cause a jam at several holes throughout the course, but overall its alright. Grounds are maintained. Other patrons can be extremely detrimental to your golf experience (had my ball stolen by a person driving on to our fairway from another hole, a rude patron behind our party was unhappy we wouldn't hit into the group ahead of us. Classless patrons are common here unfortunately) Not to mention that no employees ever checked tickets or tee times once you left the pro-shop... Recommended during off hours.
The course was in very good shape considering all the rain we had.
Took my 18 year old daughter out for a round of golf. our tee time was 1:20 pm, and it was blistering hot so not many other brave soles out there. this was a great start time because twilight times started at 3:30 pm, so we really were able to take our time and enjoy the round. the greens were very nice and rolled true, some interesting pin placements for sure. I thought the tee boxes for each color were fair, and if you hit good shots you good score. the rough was pretty thick, so wayward were penal,as it should. overall not a bad value for what we paid.
Overbooked . . . Horrendous pace of play
Tee'd off on time, but when we got to the par 5 2nd tee box it was already backed up 2 groups. The backups continued throughout all 18 holes. The group in front of us left after 9, but even that did not stop us from hitting the group in front of them on the 10th tee. just way overbooked and seems to cater to a lot of duffers making the round unbearably slow. It's actually a pretty decent course with nice greens and fairways and some challenging par 5's, but when you have to wait 10 minutes between shots it's just no fun. skip this course unless you have no other choice or are assured no one else will be out.
decent value, understaffed, slow play
Lack of staff keeps this from being a recommended course. While super helpful and very freindly there are not enough of them at peak times. The tees where half and hour behind at 9:45 and than it was a 5 hour round. Good value off peak.
Good value, good for high handicappers
This course was in overall great shape, although everything in the area has been given the good grass growing weather. This course is fairly open, and although I wouldn't call it easy, it's definitely forgiving for high handicappers. Layout is very good, has many interesting holes. Good value compared to nearby courses. Tough closing hole if you are walking!
Rough
I enjoyed my round. People were nice. The rough needs attention. I lost multiple balls that I had no business losing. They were not too far from the fairway. Really my only complaint as the rest of the course seemed pretty well maintained.
Delcastle Golf
Everything went very well with my resorvation , timely tee off ,and the course was a nice layout in Good condition . I would play there again .
Last resort
Played at 2:30 pm for 40 bucks. Fairways like my back yard, greens life putting on fell kro, no staff available, get your own cart {the first one i picked was dead} a few singles in front of me walking, wait on every shot. This is a 29.00 dollar course if i ever saw one. Dissapointed in Casper mngt., expected more.
Good course for a weekday
The course is in pretty good shape right now. It is the beginning of the season though, and most of the hackers haven't gotten out there yet to tear up the course. Delcastle is not perfect by any means, but the greens are in very good shape and the fairways and tee boxes are all in average shape.
My one recommendation is to not play on the weekend. It's a popular course and they usually overbook tee times so you will be waiting 5-10 minutes per hole. The level of players is usually not great so that will drag the round out further. Get out there on a weekday if you can. For the money, it's not a bad course.
Fog and frost delay affected enjoyment of round
Started 50 minutes after reserved starting time due to fog and frost. Partly due to this, play was very slow and could not finish 18 holes before darkness.
It's November and the course is pretty clear of leaves
Great course to play if you don't get out a lot. It's mistake friendly
Worth playing
The T boxes needed some work and more grass. The greens and fairways were in pretty good shape. There were areas of the rough that need attention, but on the whole, it is a course worth playing. It was windy and some rain the day we played, and the staff took the day off, no beer on the turn! We felt about as welcome as four day old fish. There was no GPS on the carts, which added to yardage problems for me.
