Chalet Hills Golf Club

Played two Thursdays in a row in June. Course was in great shape, except for the bunkers. Although there had been some heavy rain the first week and the bunkers were unplayable, by the second week the bunkers had still not been pumped out and power raked. That would include the weekend, usually the busiest time. Don't get it. The rest of the course was outstanding. Well kept fairways, rough, and fast greens. Someone needs to wake up. Really affects the rating. Serious golfers will take notice.

Chalet Hills is a well designed and well maintained track. From the White tees a very strong 132 slope. The further back tees most players don't have any business playing at all....blue are 6600 yards 139. We caught a good morning to play.....and just made our 924am time gutting through horrible weekday rush hour traffic from the Western Burbs. Had our twosome teed off after that we would have been in for a very very long day due to 3 somes, 4 somes and even 2 somes of very slow players. We made it around in 310 saw no one in front of us and the 3 some directly behind us may have just reached 13 by the time we finished. There was a two some 4 groups behind us that was still on the 8th hole when we teed off on 15 and just observing them they were on close to a 230 plus pace to just finish 9.

Course was in extremely nice shape featuring Ken Killian very contoured greens running fast and smooth (too fast, too many slopes and too difficult for any player with less than an average game). With all the recent rains the sand traps were basically ponds or mud however even when the grounds crew can maintain them most feature horrible/sketchy conditions and most dirt....some with just hard pan/rocks. This course is so challenging with lots of forced carries and water hazards that for most of the clientele slow play is a given and most rounds take over 5 hours routinely even during the week. I've never seen pace of play enforced and it's quite common on weekends that 6 hours is the norm. It's also been overly expensive to play the last couple of years since the new management has taken over......but from tee to green except the traps....4.75 star plus conditions.

A couple of hints...upon arriving just drop your playing partner at the bag drop and have them grab a cart to take out to your car. The drive to check into the proshop is completely on the other side of the building from where the bag drop/carts are located. Check the tee sheet on line....if crowded strongly consider playing elsewhere....some of the slowest playing golfers I've ever experienced play here (and they don't take care of the course either)....we saw one guy spend well over a minute just figiting (think Sergio/Dufner except 5 times as worse) over his ball and waiting for him to hit his tee shot on the 8th to drive away from the 15th tee......try to play before 930am or even 9am on weekdays because if you have a foursome in front of you and if one or two are less accomplished players - 5 hours plus....long cart drives between many holes some with sharp unexpected curves and be careful around the clubhouse just making the turn....first timers getting lost, etc......on weekends expect and anticipate you'll be out there for 5 1/2 hours plus and gird yourself to wait a lot.

Recommended only for the quality/difficulty of the track.....it's a real fun challenging play if you can get a nice flow going and it's very picturesque. Downgrades are the sand traps and the horrific slow play. 3.25 stars....it was a 4.25 to 4.3 day for us and that's only because we didn't spend 1/2 our day waiting for some of the clientele that frequent this course.

Happy to have a cooler cart on the course. The greens were hard from the lack of rain. Was clear due to the day (Monday) and the temp in the 90s. Had fun playing and would recommend to all levels of players

The layout has always been nice but this place needs to spend some money. The bathroom is dated with a discolored mirror. There is virtually no sand in the bunkers and where there is sand there are rocks the size of baseballs. Won't be back til I hear they have invested in improving.

Chalet Hills has a number of challenging and memorable holes. The course conditions were good and greens were putting fast. It's a must play Chicagoland golf course.

Chalet is one of the toughest courses I played, heck of a challenge fast greens tough layout reminds me of makray in barrington all in all course would be fantastic except the sand traps all hand stones in them and looked horrible!

2nd straight time had problem at course

First time was 51/2 to 6 hrs pace of play atrocious

2nd time played fast first nine only to have 5 some put off 10th tee in front of us

Made no effort to let us thru skipped a hole to go ahead only to be stymied by several groups taking 30 minutes to play a hole no on course rangers or any accomadation to speed up play was brutal

Nice course but virtually unplayable won't go back

Course was good.. The problem was no liquor license so no cart girl. Nothing at the turn. If we would have known a head we would have brought more water.

Chalet Hills offers a picturesque and challenging layout for the average to experienced golfer. I hadn't played the course for several years and was looking forward to another round here.

From tee to green, the course is lush and well maintained.

The greens were slick and the pin placements were much more challenging than met my eye. Many pins were placed on downslopes and several right on the corner of the green in a low spot or high spot. The pin placement on #18 was in the back right corner at the crest of the hill, and about five feet from the right edge. Any putt that didn't go in or stop above the hole would roll back down the hill and leave you with a 15 - 20 foot uphill putt that could roll back downhill toward you Not sure why the placements were so extreme.

Maybe it is because it is still so COLD here (May and 60?), but I was very glad to not pay $70+ dollars to play here. I found out later the course recently changed hands which might explain some of the cosmetic issues but, overall (even though it was soggy) the course was in pretty good shape! It could use a fresh paint job here and there but the bigger disappointment was NO LIQUOR LICENSE! It is not like we are alcoholics but sure wanted something at the turn to salve the wounds of our less-than-stellar play. Would definitely return mid-summer - if I can still get a $40 round.

With a threat of rain, played the course in less than 2 hours (was the only player on the course – felt like my own course). Better than a private club lay-out (every hole is unique) with similar private club conditions for a very reasonable price.

I have shot Chalet at least once or twice each year and most of the time it is in great shape. Not this time. I was surprised at the hardness of the fairways and very surprise with the sub par green conditions. I don't know if it was because all of the rain made them reverse their watering but I would wait until I hear it is back in good shape before I go again

Worth the extra $$ over some of the other solid courses in the area. Very scenic. Course was in great condition. Course was challenging but not too difficult. The only problem was some of the pin placements could have been in less challenging positions.

Course in good shape except for quite a few muddy areas. Greens good. Some challeging holes. Not too busy. Great round.

Grass in great shape. Fairways and greens. Still working on opening, sand kind of scarce in bunkers. Got on early, finished in 3 1/2 on beautiful day. Day after heavy rain and had only 3 holes cart ath only.

Awesome layout, beautiful grounds, great condition tough but fair...

A beautiful golf course, absolutely love it!! Very challenging but still fair.It's a great value for the money compared to other courses in the area. Pace of play is good, and they also have a very friendly and helpful staff. Play here often.
