Great scenery. Greens rolling true
You can't go rolling with this course. Makes you feel like your playing a course in Wisconsin / Maryland. T
Very nice course for the price.
A Little tight for the high handicap player. We had a great experience. Course was in great shape after experiencing a large amount of rainfall. Only negative we had was the carts could be updated. Old gas carts that struggled to make it up the hills!
Thank you for your review. We are glad that you had a great experience at Chalet Hills! Come back and see us again!
Fantastic shape, well managed, difficult challenge
Course was in fantastic shape, seems well managed, greens were perfect & the course is a very solid challenge for the average golfer.
Thank you for playing Chalet Hills! We are glad you thought the course was in great shape. Please come out and see us again!
Great playing course
I have played over a hundred rounds here since the 80's. Lot's of transformation, mostly for the better, but still miss the old bog holes and pump house. Used to play 36 holes twice a week on this course in cut-offs and t shirts. Now it's dressed up for the privileged and we play it less, but always come back for the memories of all the fun and golf we had here over the last 4 decades. Great course to challenge your ability or your eraser. (You know who you are.) Great spring condition. With a little attention from the grounds crew Chalet Hills can be awesome all summer. Greens are superb, but not many players repair ball marks here. Must be some new tradition. There is no second cut. Just wire brush 4" rough or prehistoric swamp stuff. Stay in the fairway or club up 2 clubs. Avoid the sand at all costs. Traps need the rocks to be removed! Fairways are in very good shape. Probably the best fairways around. Drainage is working well. The staff, starting from the parking lot to the pro shop are friendly and attentive. You have to make plans to play here at least once this year. You won't forget your round at Chalet Hills.
Very tough coarse for the average golfer
lots of water, woods, some tight fairways. not to many gimme's. almost every hole has something to manuver
TC course review
I would come back and play this course multiple times.
A cool day, so there was no one on the course, plus the golfnow fee for two with a cart was a great value.
Completely Disapointed!!!! Big Time!!!!!
I have not played C H in 15 years, before the homes popped up. And then was a gem and in awesome shape. My God this place is a dump. No hole slates, to let you see the hole, or know the distances, I was told they are on order, Believe it when I see it. Sticks and branches on the course every where , Greens had ball divots all over them. Goose droppings on them. Sand traps a watered down mess, hard and not taken care off. For the money they charge, It is so not worth the club house prices. I played on G N and thank god for that. I might come and play next year, maybe. But this course is in such bad shape for the fees being charged. I shot a 38- 38=76 from the white tees. If I have one good thing to say of this course, is the layout is nice, the 9th and 18th going around the lake is cool, and island green 17 is challenging. I was told this course has changed hands several times in last 15 years. Very nice club House. And friendly staff. What a Disapointment!!!!!
This course has a great staff.
The staff were very friendly, and the course was in good shape.
We've deside to come back again for sure and intend to have outting for our group tournament next year.
Every hole is hard like a rock but we like this golf course. Remember bring extra balls a dozen .
Late season play
Despite the cooler temperatures and late season the course was very well maintained. Still one of my favorite courses to play in the area.
nice course
Overall nice place........but no one, not golfers or staff seems to repair ball marks on greens. All 4 of us could repair 10,15 or 20 on each green. Whats up with that?
Challenging Nice course, but with maintenance problems that day.
Nice challenging scenic course, but with unfortunate maintenance problems that day. A few of the ball washers were dry or broke. One tee was extremely soggy during a dry week, looked like an underground sprinkler pipe near the tee had burst. Also, all tee areas were not marked with Hole numbers, had to look on score card map to make sure we were playing the right holes.
Great course
The back nine is tight so make sure you are hitting it straight off the tee.
Sept 19 round
I really like Chalet Hills, that's why a 5 1/2 hr round (on a Friday) was so disappointing. Never saw a ranger either. Course was in pretty good shape, though the greens were pretty marked up.
Bring you back to reality
I have played here many times this year, and this time I found the greens in the best condition from previous times. The greens are probably at 11, if the hole position is on a slope like hole 7 and you are on the wrong side of the pin, plan on 3 putts or more. This course is very challenging. any scores in the 80s is a great score.
Great course with a few major flaws
I have played this course several times this year. My last time out I chose to play on a Sunday afternoon... so I did not expect a sub 4 hour round to begin with. What I got was a beautifully groomed golf course with fast and true greens at an incredible price... but at an unplayable pace of play. Just under the 4 hour mark I quit... I had finished 13 holes.
I pulled up to the 14th tee and there was 1 group waiting for the tee, 1 on the tee, 1 on the fairway, and 1 finishing on the green... on a par 4. Not kidding. I didn't see a marshall all day.. I can't tell if they just dont have any or if I missed them, or they weren't there for that day but the job was definitely needed and not done.
I think since they are offering tee times at such ridiculously good prices through golfnow that they are getting anybody and everybody willing to play.. as a avid golfer I find this course difficult to begin with. So hows normal guy who picks up the sticks 2 times a year going to post 110 in under 4 hours? Hes not.
Bottom line, this is a great golf course at a better price with the worst pace of play I have experienced in a long time. Lesson learned, come here for a mid week round, not a weekend.
Very good challenging course
If your looking for a challenge look no further. Place your tee shot carefully and stick it close to the flag. Greens, especially on 5 will give you fits. Overall great condition.. only a few swears on a Sunday afternoon. . ;)
GREAT VALUE / GOOD COURSE
Tees and fairways were in excellent condition. Greens are well maintained and run true. Many challenging holes with fair approach lanes. Average players will be tested, good players will see risk reward situations. Good value at reduced golfnow rates.
Great course, extremely challenging
There are few courses in the Chicagoland area I've played that make you feel as if you're in the country and that you're miles away from urban areas. Chalet Hills is one of them. So if you're looking to play a gorgeous golf course, Chalet Hills is it.
However, you'll pay for the beauty in more ways than one. Chalet Hills is one of the most challenging courses I've ever played in the Chicagoland area. It puts a premium on driving accuracy and on putting. I've played the course when my driving accuracy was excellent and when it was horrendous and the results were like day and night. In the latter case I couldn't wait for my round to end. So if you're playing poorly, you will suffer. On the flip side you'll feel like a million bucks if you play this course well.
The last time I played Chalet Hills the greens were in excellent shape. The roll was true and fast. I happen to like fast greens so I wasn't disappointed. Many of the greens are small so approach shots and par 3's demand accuracy.
Most of the fairways are narrow with lots of trouble on either side. So fading or drawing the ball is not always a "stay out of trouble" option. I like to move the ball either way so I am often trying to decide if it's best to draw or fade the ball on many tee shots. The fairways were also cut to a reasonable level. By that I mean I was not confronted with tight fairway lies that that made it extremely difficult to execute pitch shots. However, they were cut short enough to allow me to use a putter when I chose to do so.
The rough was tall and lush. My playing partner and I each lost a couple of balls that we hit in the rough from the tee. The green side rough was also challenging. So hitting a ball just off the green wasn't always a bargain.
I can't comment on the sand traps because, surprisingly, I didn't end up in any of them during my last round. All I can say is that there are a lot of fairway and green side bunkers. I should also mention that there is also a lot of water. And the water is strategically located to swallow errant shot.
There are a lot of trees on Chalet Hills. Many of the trees are located so that it isn't enough to just be on the fairway. You have to place your tee shot on the left or right side of a fairway to have a good angle for your approach shot to the green.
All in all I would recommend Chalet Hills to any golfer except the novice. It's worth the challenge.
Course is in really good condition considering all the rain.
Great deal with GolfNow. Course is in very good condition considering all the rain that we've had lately. Awesome scenic views around course. Friendly staff and not over crowded.
Thank you for playing Chalet Hills! We pride ourselves in our course conditions. Please come see us again!
