You get what you pay for.
I recently played 18 holes at Fresh Meadows. You couldn't beat the online price of $18. After playing, I now know why it was so cheap. The course is not well kept up. The fairways were not in the best shape. Many of the "sand traps" were more like "dirt" traps. Ball washers were missing drying towels, and some were missing water! Didn't see one ranger all day; the pace for a weekday morning was pretty sad - over 4 hours. In summary, if you need a place to play, Fresh Meadows works. If you want a well kept course in the western burbs, go elsewhere!
Declining condition
Always an average course but the condition is about the worst I have experienced for a public course.
Needs cutting
Long Par 4's, fairly open. Good course for general play. Fairways need cutting .... somewhat difficult to see fairway or rough lines. Greens had two holes .... one for pin one for ?? Some bunkers were hard compacted sand.
Number 10 flooded near green .... would have appreciated a warning notice at tee.
Would not play again unless maintainance a little better.
Goog course for the price !
A good no-frills type course. Inexpensive. Can finish 18 in 4 hours.
Great Greens - not much else positive.
Played from middle tees. Starts with 430 yard par 4.
Greens in very good condition. Bunkers in bad shape. Many filled with water days after last rain. Lots of casual water on some holes. Fairways were like a mowed meadow.
Fresh meadow
Greens are ok, fairway is not very well kept. Staff was great. Got rained out after 9 and was given a rain check... i "might" go back and use it. Some players were jumping in and out of the line bouncing from random hole to hole. Very low etiquette score for the golfers I witnessed that day.
decent course but 5 hrs to play round
Booked a late tee time at 3:30 to try and avoid the crowds. Started off great, breezed thru the first 6 holes..before we caught up to a foursome with 4 carts!!..followed by a foursome of 2 elderly couples. Needless to say both groups took their sweet time and were never told to speed up. Course conditions were OK and I'd consider playing again but next time it will be an early birds tee time.
the course has nice fetures, some holes are fun
fairways are in bad shape. greens are slow , could not tell where fairway started and rough ended.
This course was fairly easy
At best average, the course is flat, there were some water hazards. Due to bad weather the course was wet in some places. I would play again and recommend it to my friends.
Great value
Greens in excellent shape. Front 9 very tough with pro par 4s. Good layout, many blind doglegs.
Easy to get to.
The course was in good condition. The greens were very consistent to putt on. Some tee boxes need some work. Overall it was very good. Could use more management on the course.
Slow rude and dry once past the proshop
Pro shop guy and beverage girl were nice and seemed happy to be there. Course itself other than being really, really dry wasn't too bad there were the spots of ground under repair and bare spots typical and easy to over look for a muni course. The real problem is when you tee off around 3pm and don't finish till after 7pm that things go sour. Not only was the pace slow as molasses we had four neanderthals in front of us with three carts so they had no reason to crowd around each others shots but did. In their minds eye they were Bubba, Kaymer, Westwood and Spieth unfortunately they could barely get it past the women's tees. Asked to play thru told oh there are two groups ahead so no. We are still waiting to see the invisible groups ahead. Then they got mad on 18 when they took 5 minutes to clear the green (after putting out and replacing the flag mind you) so we hit into them. They should have waited around (ya know what I mean) but for all the big talk they sure ran/drove out quick. Also at one point had 7 balls in our fairway of two players the other 5??? Also they pocketed my partners ball (but not the one when we hit into them go figure that one out) and a group behind picked mine up and that one was in play I had just teed off. Stay away or be one of the first one's out on this one.
Fresh Meadows
Fantastic rate via GolfNow!! Played as a single, got around in 2 hours 45 minutes. So quick that I felt jilted (that was a joke). Friendly staff, knowledgeable starter as he met me on 10 and asked the 4some ahead of me to let me play though. Some of the bunkers need more sand, but I'm assuming the bunkers are so shallow that a good wind blows away the sand. Good course when need a quick fix, or you need to rebuild your confidence.
Needs work throughout!
3 types of bunkers, full of big rocks, big weeds growing in sand, and groomed dirt. Fairways are rock hard and many areas without grass"hard dirt patches". Greens have "Chicago style potholes" about 1 foot diameter. I will not return to a course where owner refuses to invest in proper course maintenance!
The course features
The course was in ok shape. The fairways were in good shape some of the greens had been damaged and need some work. Overall my 2nd round out for the year so I enjoyed myself.
Good value...
I typically play Fresh Meadows a couple of times a year. Some of the tee boxes are in poor to decent shape. Other players do not fix ball marks on the greens. Wide open course provides the space to try new shots!
I'll play it again!
Local Gem
This is course is great for people like me who live in the city. This course also provides 2 things as a beginning golfer...1. I can play 9 holes. 2. They have available tee times for Single Players. Being a beginner playing with other sometimes can be a little intimidating so having the option to play solo to take my time and work on my skills is extremely important to me. Thank you Fresh Meadows.
Fresh meadow
A fun course with a friendly staff.
The fairways had some bare spots not sure if it's because of the bad winter. I'm sure conditions should improve. Medium length par 4s and shorter par 5s with quite a few doglegs to keep it fun.
