Jerry, the general manager, is great. The course is good for the cost. It usually moves along at a nice pace.
See my summary. One suggestion for improvement is for the rangers/starters not to require players unknown to each other to share carts when they join each other along the way of play. It is very awkward and forces players not to join others, thus slowing down play.
The rangers need to learn how to do their JOB.
The greens were in good condition, and the fairways were cut good but with out rain they were as hard as a rock. The only thing that was not good was the old whining men that was supposed to be the Rangers that did not do their job, a five and a half hour 18 hole round is despicable and unacceptable if you ask me.
Was a very nice course I'd highly recommend
What a great way to spend a few hours on an afternoon at a great course, with friendly staff, and equally pleasant other golfers.
It is not perfect. But, it is great course for the money.
There are some signs of wear and setteling. But, it was under $25 on a weekend. You can't beat the deal. If you want to pay $80 somewhere else, go ahead. But, if you want a deal, and that is why we use golfnow, this is a good course.
Friendlt staff well maintained
We enjoyed the course and the staff was very friendly. They were making improvement when we were there. It was well worth the price.
It's a great value
I have played this course 3 times now, the cost has ranged from $20-25 with a cart. I understand this site used to be a landfill, but it's not garbage to me. It is well maintained throughout, and there are numerous bunkers to catch errant shots. I would recommend The Meadows for the average golfer to enjoy an afternoon.
Bad starters, horrible manager, good ol boys club.
The starters have no clue what they are doing, throwing walkers out in front of people on the turn. The golf manager wouldn't address an issue where a regular golfer there chased me with a club because I skipped them after waiting behind them for three holes, they never bothered to offer me to play through, and they were a five-some. horrible greens and don't ride the cart path if you have a bad back or hemorrhoids.
Good for a quick fix
The course is fine for the money, some of the fairways are pretty beat up but is not like you can't play, the range is nice and like I said, you can't find many courses at this price.
Course is in great shape
Pace was perfect on a beautiful day, after checking in with the ranger we were able to start our round 15 minutes early.
Back nine more difficult than the front
Course was in better than fair condition. The back nine played longer and more difficult than the front nine. Pace the pace of play was slow. Too many golfers taking 15minutues to find their ball instead of dropping. I did get on for $20 through Golf Now, so I can't complain much. Overall a good course, a steal if can play for as low as I did...
Good if you can get it for the right price
Course could use some attention. Pace of play was terribly slow and staff was not interested in speeding any groups up. For the normal green fee of 45 dollars there are a ton of nicer courses in the area. If you can get a good deal on a tee time for around 20-30 dollars then its a good deal. Good course for novices since its very open and forgiving.
Not good
Course was not looked after well. Easy to loose balls just off the fairway and around the greens.
Observations
If I had one major complaint about this course, it would be that more distance marking should be added, especially on par 3s. I play from the blue tees and there were numerous times that I questioned the distance from tee to green on them. With having long tee boxes, there are times that an entire club length, plus or minus, could be mistaken. A more minor complaint is that the cart paths are in pretty rough shape. I believe that there should be a plan to improve them within the next few years, especially for older people.
Not very long, but presents difficulty due to various elevation levels and blind hole locations.
I played Meadows with a few friends last week and I was thoroughly impressed with the course conditions, the challenge of hitting from different elevations and the various green / pin locations. I recommend this course for all levels, especially for those that like to grip and rip. The links style course allows you to grip and rip, but the different elevation levels allows you to be crafty from 100 yards in. The added bonus is the course has a grass practice range and not mats, unlike most south side Chicago courses. Its by far the best kept secret in the south side of Chicago, especially for what you pay.
Fun course, the green were nice and fast for a public course.
The course was well maintained with fast greens, great value for the amount paid.
Great deal
Can't complain when I shot 79. :-)
First time here, saw a great deal that morning and went and played it. Average conditions, pretty much what I expected from a Municipal Course. Thanks to Mo, Bob & Kenny for making the round fun.
Nice pace
Got a 4 some round in 4 hours. Good conditions. Challenging.
The greens were air rated.
The cart paths needs a lot of work, but the course is well.
Nice guys here
Just a blue collar course on the south side of Chicago. Have gotten into numerous money games here. Kind of fun..
A nice course at a fair price
Many holes that make you think green were in good shape for late in the year and pace of play was good! staff was nice and flexiable I will play there again
My review was based on MY experience at the course, in both the staff and the condition of the course itself. I am not sure how anyone knows how I act.
I have played the course several times. Everyone seems very nice. I have never had anyone chase me with a club. Then again, I have never had anyone chase me with a club anywhere. You have to love how people like that blame everyone else. If you don't act like you do, people won't chase you with a club.
