Far Oaks Golf Club
About
Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville has a unique layout with a front nine that is designed in a Scottish-links style and a back nine that plays through rolling woodlands. The links holes are framed with native prairie grasses and wildflowers while mature oak trees line the fairways on the back nine. There are plenty of elevation changes throughout the golf course, making it hard to find a flat lie. Mounding and strategically placed bunkers lurk treacherously along the greensides and there are also several holes with water. Far Oaks Golf Club is a challenging course that demands accuracy, which is most apparent on the 10th hole. Although it's not the longest par 4 on the course, it is still challenging thanks to a slew of bunkers that border both sides of the green.

Fast Greens But Course Still Needs Improvements
Let me first say that Far Oaks is my 2nd favorite St. Louis metro course. I had not played the course since September 2019 because one year ago they were losing thier greens. The early reviews in 2020 were not that favorable either.
To my surprise, the greens have made a 100% comeback. None of the greens had any areas of stress. These greens are now the fastest in the area - no one close. They do not overwater the greens but the greens were receptive to shots coming into the green. They also allow single carts for Covid-19 for only an additional $5.
With that good news, there are many issues with the course. If you don't allow rakes because of the Covid-19, the course needs to rake the bunkers everyday. The pace of play was painfully SLOW. We waited 5-10 minutes on every tee. No course ranger to monitor this. They need to trim back trees/foliage on holes 6 and 12. You cannot see the beauty of these holes because trees/foliage are blocking your view.
Lastly, this course opened in 1998. They have always had a gravel looking parking lot. The potholes coming into the course are awful. I think after 22 years of business, it is time to pave the parking lot, Such a nice looking clubhouse and course and this ruins the expereince of coming onto the property.
Worth Playing
Good course but the fairways could use some water and the pace of play was very slow especially on the back nine.
Worth Playing
This track lived up to the recommendation and is well worth playing, however, this pace of play was slow especially on the back nine.
The fairways are dry, there is no sand in the bunkers but the greens are in good shape and it's a very good layout.
I recommend playing this track, I would play it again if I'm back in the area.
Played after a tourney
Played here for the second time this year. Gave it a 5 star for condition in spring. 4 star this time. Greens were good (recently aerated) fairways were great and tees were great. Rough was very hard and dry from drought. Great course overall well worth money
Very picturesque and enjoyable round
Course was in very good condition. We were not aware the greens had been aerated, making our putts difficult. We had an enjoyable round anyway.
Staff was very friendly, keeping appropriate distance and wearing a mask.
Great layout, course is in condition. We played in less than 4 hours. Staff was very nice and friendly.
McBucks
Overall great course. Little slow today but beautiful morning so can’t complain.
Great value
Fairways and greens were great ! Rough pretty think which was fun presents a challenge . But overall I’d say the course was great ! Wish they were a better about offering deals . When we finished our round we asked what the price to play 9 more was bc we were very pleased and they gave us the price of 24.99 and we said well how much is it for 18 bc that was close to the price we paid for the original round and they said $25 . So maybe offering a discount for an additional 9 when the course was wide open woulda been awesome . But it is what it is . Will definitely go back
