Far Oaks Golf Club
About
Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville has a unique layout with a front nine that is designed in a Scottish-links style and a back nine that plays through rolling woodlands. The links holes are framed with native prairie grasses and wildflowers while mature oak trees line the fairways on the back nine. There are plenty of elevation changes throughout the golf course, making it hard to find a flat lie. Mounding and strategically placed bunkers lurk treacherously along the greensides and there are also several holes with water. Far Oaks Golf Club is a challenging course that demands accuracy, which is most apparent on the 10th hole. Although it's not the longest par 4 on the course, it is still challenging thanks to a slew of bunkers that border both sides of the green.

Nice Course
Course was in good shape. Greens were a little inconsistent in speed. They're working on some drainage areas, but most of the course was very playable. Will be back.
Overpriced With Contruction Projects Underway. Other Issues Too.
They have a note on each cart telling you "please excuse off-season construction projects...improving drainage and some bunkers...should be completed by mid-April (weather permitting)". I'm glad to see these changes but you can't charge $72 when many of the holes are a mess. (right of hole 1, 3, 6, 14). I played on April 17 (mid-April) and they are not even close to having this completed.
There are many other issues with the course...
Bunkers are not well maintained. Some bunkers with grass in them. Totally unacceptable. Some bunkers with no rakes. So many bunkers have not been raked in awhile.
Place of play is a problem. Waited on every hole. I did see one ranger but he did nothing to improve this.
This course is poorly marked for yardages. No yardages on the sprinkler heads. The par 3, 6th hole has no yardage markers. Red. white, blue stakes on edge of fairways would go a long way. Poorly marked courses are a recipe for slow play - which is the case with this course.
A couple of general comments. The greens were aerated several weeks ago and they were fairly smooth. Poa annua grass is creeping into the bent grass greens.
The good things the course has done. As I mentioned in my previous reviews, they needed to remove trees in front of hole 12, which blocked the view of the hole. Good news - this has been done!!!
Repaired the cart path on hole 3.
This is one of the best designs in the metro St. Louis area. I would give it a couple of months before I would play this again. Currently, the $72 green fee is too high until these improvements are completed.
Always enjoy course
Several holes under repair. Staff is helpful and great. Always enjoy this course
If you like old style courses, you will probably like this one. not very long and a few of the fairways are split by rough and there are some blind tee shots. I haven't yet replaced by broken driver and had no issues with a 3 wood. the greens were recently aerated but seemed to roll true and were running at a good pace. as long as they keep them short and rolled they should provide a decent challenge for putting.
Good track
In the area for work, and got some time to hit the course. For dormant fairways, they were top notch. Greens had been plugged which wasn’t quite ideal but still rolled out decent just never knew where it was going to end up. Was incredibly windy and still enjoyed my round. I would think this course is awesome when In season. Would definitely play again.
A change is coming...
The course is undergoing drainage repairs till about May. Check back in June and you'll love this course. You can get around and have an enjoyable round but bunkers and just off the fairways are under repair. Right now, it's worth $20 but not more.
Jan 5th play
I love playing this course and love the character of the variety of different holes. The only negative I can say now is that several of the holes were under construction for what appears to be drainage improvements...which is great long term...but a little difficult in some cases to aim away from these areas. It didn't affect play all that much but I would like to see apps like Golf Now show some advisory notes when you book a tee time at a course where holes are closed and/or under maintenance. No holes were closed this time, but it would still be nice to be made aware of course maintenance activities that affect play before you confirm bookings.
Otherwise...still as always enjoyed playing this course.
As always, great course, it great shape save the unrepaired ballmarks by tyhe Metro Least bumpkin! Also, Far Oaks has been around 20 years, how about paving your parking lot?
Beautiful and Enjoyable Course
What a great day on the golf course with the combination of outstanding Fall colors and a well maintained golf course. The staff was very friendly and welcomed each golfer warmly. The starter was super friendly and worked to make the first hole a great kickoff to the round. Most impressive was the greens with their large size and their challenging undulations and slope. Several holes had a false front and others had deep sand traps that were protecting the putting surface. I would definitely recommend playing this course!!
One of my Favorites
This is one of my favorites in the metro area. Very playable yet challenging. Always friendly staff. You will not be disappointed
