Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville has a unique layout with a front nine that is designed in a Scottish-links style and a back nine that plays through rolling woodlands. The links holes are framed with native prairie grasses and wildflowers while mature oak trees line the fairways on the back nine. There are plenty of elevation changes throughout the golf course, making it hard to find a flat lie. Mounding and strategically placed bunkers lurk treacherously along the greensides and there are also several holes with water. Far Oaks Golf Club is a challenging course that demands accuracy, which is most apparent on the 10th hole. Although it's not the longest par 4 on the course, it is still challenging thanks to a slew of bunkers that border both sides of the green.

This course is excellent!

The greens were very slick and fast. The traps appearance wise were beautiful but it seemed like there was an inch to and inch and half of white sand but below that was hardpan ground. The fairways were all dormant but were cut very low, almost seemed like they rolled them which made them a little thin to strike off of. But the course was beautiful and the weather and pace of play was great!! One of the best public courses around.

Playing behind a 6some

First off I really like Far Oaks as a course! It’s a fun shorter shot makers layout which I love. My issue with my latest round there has nothing to do with the course itself. I booked a twosome at 11:57 and was told another twosome went out at 11:30 ahead of us, we caught them on hole 6 and they were complaining about slow play in front of them. They skipped holes and we caught another twosome on hole 8 and joined them. Our new group was behind a group of 6 playing slowly in a cart path only situation. We played behind them for 2 holes thinking there was some sort of tournament ahead, by hole 11 I realized there was no tournament and saw at least 2 holes open in front of this sixsome , I called pro shop and was told they knew about the sixsome and that they were supposed to let groups play through! I told pro shop they weren’t and they said they would send out a marshal …..no one ever came out and we had to play 9 holes behind a sixsome ( beware slow play )

I WILL LIKELY NEVER RETURN TO FAR OAKS BECAUSE OF THIS 5 HOUR ROUND AND SITUATION

Be warned and prepare

Great Course But There Are Always Issues

Far Oaks is one of my favorite courses in the St. Louis metro. The senior weekday rate of $48 is favorable. However, these issues prevent them from getting a 4 or 5 star rating.

There was no leaf removal on holes 14 & 15. There were no issues on any other holes. Very difficult to for us to find our balls. This results in slow play. Our round was over 5 hours. Waited on every shot.

Another thing that slows down play, you can't tell the colors of the tee markers. They are all white with a thin line of the color for the tee on the edge of the marker. We had to get out of our carts numerous times to determine if we have the right tees.

Overall, the course was in good shape for November. I still recommend Far Oaks but you will have to put up with the items I mentioned above.

Great course Slow Pace

Great course - layout and condition.

Slow pace of play 5 hour round. Many holes are cart path only and with the hilly layout really slows the pace of play. In addition put you off the fairway before you got anywhere close to the greens.

Love the course but will go elsewhere when I need to be done in a timely fashion

Dumbest Tee Markers You'll Ever See On A Course

Let me start with the issues of the golf course.

We spent our entire round trying to find the tee markers we were playing. All tee markers are painted white on the ends of a small tree limb, with only a narrow ring of color to show each tee color. You must get out of your cart and walk on the tee to see if you have the correct tee box. It is totally ridiculous and so frustrating.

The weekend green fees of $87 is way too high. The best course in the area is Annbriar and their weekend fee is $77.

On the par 14, the trees & brush are overgrown in the ravine, ruining the view of the green.

They have signs were new sod has been laid and telling every one not to walk on the sod. You need stakes and rope to mark these areas to keep golfers off these areas. Signs do not work.

The good things about the course.

The carts have a new GPS. It gives you yardage to the pin. The arrows and colors of the greens, is too much information and you can't understand it.

They have placed new sod on the 12th tee, to the right of the 14th green and at the end the 15th fairway. However, there are numerous other areas on the 15th

fairway that still need attention.

The greens have not been aerated yet. Overall, the course is in decent shape.

I would not play Far Oaks on the weekend. Main reasons are it is too expensive and the tee marker fiasco.

Awesome Round!

First opportunity to play this course. The course was in pristine condition! It had been aerated and the greens were still in good condition and better than most courses greens. The entire staff and clubhouse just exudes positive vibes! I plan to play again!!

Amazing course bad pace of play

The course has country club conditions but the pace of play was awful when I played. Everything else is great besides some houses on some of the holes but that’s just preference.

Excellent conditions!

Course in superb shape, greens were excellent. Staff super welcoming and friendly. Even have white sand bunkers.

Has come light years from several years ago. Absolutely blown away after not playing it for 4 years or so.

Rounds took under 4 hours but not many people out that morning.
