About
Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville has a unique layout with a front nine that is designed in a Scottish-links style and a back nine that plays through rolling woodlands. The links holes are framed with native prairie grasses and wildflowers while mature oak trees line the fairways on the back nine. There are plenty of elevation changes throughout the golf course, making it hard to find a flat lie. Mounding and strategically placed bunkers lurk treacherously along the greensides and there are also several holes with water. Far Oaks Golf Club is a challenging course that demands accuracy, which is most apparent on the 10th hole. Although it's not the longest par 4 on the course, it is still challenging thanks to a slew of bunkers that border both sides of the green.

Slow Round
I was very disappointed in the pace of play, it was over a 5 hour round. We waited on every hole for the group ahead of us.
Over all rating of only 3 was due to the slow pace of play.
Great Course & Conditions, Bad New Tee Marker Design
Far Oaks Golf CLub is my 2nd favorite course in the St. Louis metro area (behind Annbriar). With the new white sand bunkers, the course looks great. The greens were perfect and had some speed to them. The weekday senior rate of $42.99 is outstanding. The course marshall was actually friendly and thanked us for playing their course. Some of the fairways have some rough areas (holes 3, 5, 15).
They now have new tee markers which look like the ones they use at the Masters. A small log with the edges cut off at 45 degrees, with the each end painted white with the Far Oaks logo in the middle. The only way they differentiate between the tees is the border of the white area is painted a different color.
The all look like white tees until you get right on top of them. Not sure of the thinking of this design.

Course is in good shape. They did a nice job of redoing their sand traps .
Pace Of Play Is A Problem At Far Oaks
We all know the course was wet and it was cart path only, but we waited 5-10 minutes on every shot. Many times, two groups on the tee. They even had a course ranger out on the course and he did nothing to improve the situation. 5 hours and 15 minutes is unacceptable.
The price on the weekend was $80. Which is comparable with Annbriar at $77.
The good things about the course were the greens and sand. Some tees in rough shape (12 & 16). The fairways were decent, some in a little rough shape.
With the course surrounded by houses, there is no restroom on the front nine. There is one on the back nine by the 13th tee, however, it is infested with bees and no one can use it.
Always consistent!
The front 9 moved very well but at the turn, there were 2-3 groups deep waiting! Marshalls did not move people along.
Great Course & Design, Still Making Improvements
Far Oaks is in my Top 5 courses in the St. Louis metro area. Wonderful desigh, picturesque, playable and the brand new white sand looks great.
They are always making improvements but they still got a ways to go to become a top tier course.
They finally cut down all the trees, brush in front of the 12th tee. It looks great and really opens up the hole. Kudos to the course for doing this. The greens were in good shape too.
However, here are some issues that still remain, Weeds in fairway 1, fairways have bad areas: 3, 4, 5, 15, 12th tee has little grass and a former bunker to the right of 18 green is now just dirt.
Old folks don’t bring your ladies to Far Oaks
For paying over $40 to play an 18 took over 5 1/2 hours due to couples in their late 40s trying to play while holding up over eight different golfers. I don’t recommend coming here if it’s a Friday or weekend weekdays might be better.
Challenging course.
Greens had just been sanded but other than that it’s in good shape. Beautiful sand traps and I liked the feel of the sand and my ability to get out of them.
Nothing To Complain About With February Golf At Far Oaks
Difficult to review a course in February, but I could not complain about anything. All the bunker reconstruction is complete. The bunkers they have kept are white sand now. It will look really good when the grass turns green.
The greens fee of $34 for February is tremendous for this quality of golf course. The greens were in good shape, smooth and had good speed.
Quality Course
Not the best time of year to really rate a course but they are always working to improve the Far Oaks Golf Course experience! Will be nice after Spring has sprung! Some of the nicer bunkers in the St. Louis area. Bunker just reworked with white fluffy sand. Looking forward to Spring at the Oaks!
