Where have all the rangers gone ?
A nice course but pace of play is not monitored. Started on the 1st hole; we called it in but nobody came out. 4 hours 45 minutes for this course is ridiculous. Not worth playing again if the folks who manage this place dont care.
Good Shape for Early Season
80's in April? Awesome. We had a wonderful afternoon at The Bluffs. Giving it 4 stars because I recommend the place. A good senior value. Our experience was a bit below 4 stars with some very slow play in front of us. Unacceptable this early in the season. We should not of had a 430 plus round....the tee sheet was hardly full. Another item that will contribute to slow play this season.....your ball pretty much sits down in the sand traps with the sand that was used to rehabilitate several of them. See my review below for further info. Play it!
great layout through old quarry
Course had a terrific layout that utilizes and old gravel quarry and the holes through it are superlative! These holes have terrific mounding form the spoils of the old quarry and some elevation change.
As great as the layout and quarry holes are the course conditions and staff are equally as poor. If not for my poor treatment and poor course conditions the course would be ranked higher.
Solid 4 stars - New Bar/Patio thumbs up!
They did a nice job renovating the clubhouse....the open air garage doors nice days bar area is awesome as well as the outdoor patio. Unfortunately what they neglected were the restroom areas. Not even close to being adequate for some larger events at clubhouse/bar/restaurant. No lockers or showers.....while the restrooms are "new" the same ventilation issues as before - smelly/messing/wet but updated. You also experience a somewhat "clunky"check in as the pro-shop is now located on the opposite side of the building in back....which is further away from the starter shack were you have to check in to get a cart. Decent driving range off grass currently with a small practice area near the putting green.
Course itself is in very good shape. A decent $45 value for a seniors....which a great layout and lot's of fun challenges. HIghly recommend. Play it! .
Disappointed
It’s been a few years since I’ve played this course. I quit playing here 3 years ago because I decided to play here after getting off work at 1PM on a beautiful 70 degree day showing up to the course only to find out the course was closed for the day due to a 5k run. On a golf course... fast forward 3 years and I see it popping up on lists around the Chicago area as a top course so I gave it another try. The result... the only list this course should be on is top courses with lowest maintenance budget. This place hasn’t seen a lawn mower on it in 3 days and I played it on the weekend when conditions should be in pristine form. On top of that the greens were still aerated ON MAY 15th. The $89 rate I paid for the round is an absolute joke. The best part is the system they go through to hand out cart keys. They have to “assign you a cart” and then you have the privilege to go through the old drunk sailor who spends 5 minutes to find out which cart he wants to assign you. And then there is the cart lady who has no regard for her own safety and she could give a rats behind that you are about to hit a golf ball in her direction, she will actually continue to drive right towards you as you are on the tee box. The rough is basically fescue, tee boxes were shaggy, fairways were shaggy and don’t even get me started on the greens. Pace of play was great and the layout is phenomenal. If they throw a lawn mower on this place more than twice a week it would be in good shape. I’ll try again in another 3 years! This place is getting away with robbery.
Bonus October Day
Empty course on a Tuesday afternoon - light winds and partly cloudy in the low 70's. Course was a little wet from rains the day and evening before but very playable. Traps were mud. Appeared they had somewhat been maintained this season but probably hit and miss. I wish they'd finish off renovating their clubhouse and get that back up and running. It's still not done...getting there and hopefully will open next season. Halfway house out of trailer for beverages/food and porta potties. At least they have water jubs on course that are filled. The Bluffs is well designed and grasses were all in decent shape. The rough does need to be mowed soon...very thick. Solid grass driving range for warm up. Greens had good speed and were not aerated. Solid 4 stars. Recommend. Once the renovated clubhouse opens it will be above 4 stars.
Heritage Bluff
First time playing this course, doesn't look like much from the road or in the parking lot but what a gem of a course once you start playing. Very well groomed for public course, beautiful layout. Pace of play was very good. Tremendous value!
Course is in impeccable shape except for a lot of sand traps. Not maintained like they should be. Some very hard like cement and others were very like mud and not raked
Solid overall course
Great course.
For an average golfer like me, the course is tough in my opinion. Bunker placements and tighter fairways.
First time I’d played since 2015 and it’s really nice and well kept just like I remembered
Storm damage
We played three days after a storm had gone through and the course had a lot of damage due to a large wind storm. The rough was long because their probably didn't have time to cut it.
Nice course BUT
Pretty nice course, in good shape, nice people BUT paying $80 for what this course is may be a little over the top. Layout is pretty average, trees and some tight fairways. At this price point though you’re better off spending an extra 10 or 20 to be at a much nicer course.
Great price and great conditions for a park district course. Also resurfaced cart paths, awesome! Presently renovating the pro shop and restaurant, nice!
