Klein Creek Golf Club
About
Klein Creek Golf Club sprawls across acres of rolling prairieland in the western suburbs of Chicago. Trees frame the layout's gentle doglegs and tall prairie grasses border the fairways. It is a golf course that offers both beautiful scenery and a challenging round. Several lakes also dot the landscape, coming into play on almost every hole. The abundant water hazards are often coupled with spacious, intricately designed bunkers that are also usually paired with wood retaining walls. Contoured mounding frames the fairways and greens as well. Klein Creek Golf Club's layout is not easy by any means but it's fair, offering room for error on even the tougher holes with wide fairways and generous landing areas. There are a variety of approach options for the greens as well, providing great risk-reward opportunities.

Great course layout, and can be so much better
I've played a lot of courses in the Chicagoland area, and Klein Creek's layout is one of the better ones you'll find. The course offers varied layouts for par 3, 4 and 5 holes. There are plenty of opportunities to put your shots in a water hazard, so bring extra balls if you tend to spray your shots. Ample sand traps and decent terrain changes on both fairways and greens offers extra challenge.
The course apparently just replaced the sand in the traps this year. For a public course, these sand traps are some of the best I've played. I'm tired of hitting out of the equivalent of kids' sandboxes like I do at many other courses. These traps are a pleasure to hit from, and offer consistent play. Note that Klein Creek is setting up grass bunker areas, which need to grow in a bit, so the starter advised us to pull balls from grass bunkers.
I liked the fact that the cart paths are cinder/stone and not paved. Many of the paved paths in public courses are not well maintained, these rolled well. The halfway house consists of an outdoor deck area and the food selection was quite good, albeit a bit overpriced. Enjoyed the view over the water and of the 10th tee box.
There were spots along the course where the fairways and rough areas had dead patches, crabgrass, etc. Even a couple of greens looked like they could use some TLC. It's been a tough summer (one of the hottest on record) so with some extra maintenance and a bit more time this course will be an absolute gem.
I found the course to be more slightly more difficult than others in the area, so if you're looking for a challenging track consider Klein Creek.
Good price, alright conditions
Got a good rate for after 4pm with cart. Had an open front 9 but ran into a backup on the back. Talked to a group in front of us saying that there was a very slow 3some causing it. No ranger was around to push them forward. Overall good course, challenging with all the water. Course is very dry, talking with a manager afterwards he mentioned that the sprinklers haven't been working so it was understandable. Didn't ruin the outing and was able to get 18 in around 3.5hrs
Conditions were awful
I used to like this course. the staff is friendly and it’s a good layout. but for $70 a round, water your greens at least once a summer. it was absolutely brutal today. burnt out greens. divots all over the fairway. the rough was completely dead. i’ve played $30 courses in better shape.
Renovations are excellent
Kline creek is under new ownership since fall of 2019. The new owner has drastically updated the bunkers probably some of the best sand in the Chicago area, They have remove some bankers which are currently being played as ground under repair and created waste areas out of others. Fairways and greens were in great shape.
The beverage cart passed us numerous times on the course
I was playing as a single paired up with a threesome They did give me my own cart, but originally wanted to charge me for it. I did not think this was right in the era of COVID asking two strangers to ride together. This was the only negative about the course.
Disappointing
Played here several times in the past.
Seems like they have given up on what was once a well kept course.
Weeds in the sand traps. ( dry hard sand traps).
No wonder they have plenty of tee times available.
Disappointing.
Terrible value!!!
I can’t believe this course gets away charging $70 for 18
Holes. Baffled why people ever play here. I’m not sure if they even have sprinklers. Totally barren. Rock hard, brown grass, old bunkers are crap and new bunkers are not maintained. You can only book your tee time through golf now and pay the convenience fee. We originally booked a 3some. Tried calling at 5pm the night before to add a 4th and pro shop was closed. They filled our foursome with a member and he didn’t even show up. I can’t stress enough how terrible this course is. I did not have fun. The food at the turn is good, I’ll give them that. $70 is an outrageous price. I Wouldn’t pay more than 40 to play there. Such an awful course and I will never go back. Also the maintenance staff was mowing the course Saturday at 11am??? Never seen that before. Staff is More worried about taking carts in parking lot than they are about properly maintaining the course. DO NOT PLAY HERE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE
See improvements trending in right direction
Course still needs upgraded maintenance but in much better condition than 2 yrs ago. Actually Hate Course Layout, but that is my problem, not the course. Must make smart club selections to shoot a good score...
Pro Shop, Grill, Outside venue has been major upgraded and all staff was A+.
If new owners continue to keep upgrading facilities and course, I’ll be back more to learn to play smarter.
Completely Redone!
Much different from years past.... New carts, manicured course, new restaurant and pier area that has greatly impacted the after golf experience. Staff was super friendly & helpful & the food was delicious! If you played here in years past, I highly suggest you come back and take a look at the changes!
Narrow and Challenging
First timer at Klein Creek and I really enjoyed it. The layout was fun, especially with so many difficult par 4s. They are replacing some bunkers and the course is still under some maintenance, but it was a great track. It seems dried out so the fairways and greens playing so fast added another challenge to an already tricky course design. Would definitely play again.
Solid Track, Tough Challenge
Staff was very nice. Course very challenging even from the white tees. Hard fairways with BIG and sometimes unpredictable bounces, and hard and fast greens made it very difficult. Could soften things up a bit so its not so punitive - even on good shots (or I could play better). Overall a nice find.
Great track
Course in good shape, new management improved sand traps with whit sand. In general greens where true. Staff were friendly and outside grill is nice
Greens not good
Greens in horrible condition don’t think they water the course at all
Love the Improvements!
Have played this course over the past several years and love the improvements under new ownership, especially the sand traps. My friends and I have always enjoyed playing this challenging course and even more so now with the improvements made and those still going on. Would definitely recommend this to others and we will play here several times this season. The pace of pace of play has been very good as we finished 18 holes in ~4-4.5 hrs with Sat AM tee times.
Parking lot fairways
I figured with all the renovation and new ownership they would have been better, but I couldn’t of been more wrong.
I’m not sure if they just never use the sprinklers or water they’re greens/fairways at all. The ground was so hard a fairway shot I had literally took a chunk out of my club head.
Trust me I enjoy a firm challenging course but when this was more comparable to a mall parking lot. Save yourself the stress and headache and just pay the extra 10 bucks for a different course.
