Fun round
First time playing this course. I really enjoyed my time. People were very nice and although the course was packed, everyone seemed to be mindful on pace of play. Even the the 4 soccer moms in front of us who zipped right along. Impressive!
Bring your putting game!
First time. Terrible start. But course is shaped well. You have to bring your shots out of the bag. Once you complete getting on to the green, now the fun begins. It was 84 degrees and no rain a few dayys prior. NASCAR fast. If I wasn't puttng down a slope, I was putting up a nice climb, but don't hit it too hard! Nice course. I walked it. I would suggest playing at this course.
Slow at Twilight
Course good. Play slow. Crowded. Cart fee should be included. Friendly staff.
Fun challenging course
The new design makes it play like a links course with a lot of undulations around the green. Fun track that requires your attention
Course was in great shape. Except for getting stuck behind some very slow junior golfers on the Front 9, I have zero complaints.
Top 10 public in Chicagoland
We played our first round ever at Sunset Valley and loved every minute of it. The greens are fairly quick with a lot of breaks. They are undulating without being tricked up. The variety of the holes is outstanding. Long par 4 and 5’a, shorter holes too. The par 3’s allow you to hit different clubs. Miss a green and you will have a challenging chip or pitch. The only thing that is negative is lack of a driving range. The breakfast sandwich at the turn and the post round brat were tasty. This is definitely a must play!
Nice!!
Great challenging layout. Fast sloping greens!! Stay below the pins!! Great staff!! Restaurant is outstanding!!
1st time since renovation
Course in great shape especially after rain of two days prior. Super pace of play at just under 4 hrs. Booked a single tee time and was allowed to join a group 30 min. before my time. Greens had subtle breaks that were a little tricky and hard to read. Gusting high winds also a factor.
Best public course in chicago
I will echo all of the positive reviews.
This is a redesign done correctly. The greens are gorgeous and will only get better as they age (hopefully). I've walked and rode while playing, and I'm not sure which I like more. The first hole is challenging, but rewarding, and that is a common occurrence. The front 9 definitely outshines the back 9, but the back 9 is a little harder. The front is a lot more open, whereas the back 9 feels more congested.
My only complaint about the course is the price. It's a little steep. But I guess the point is keep the riff-raff away, which I think was part of the original problem, that caused the re-design. I'd like to see more tournaments (happy the North Shore Amateur is back). The carts are awesome, some of the best in the city. The restaurant and pro-shop are great. The course feels like an upscale course with a upper mid-tier price.
Overall my favorite course near the city.
Best greens of any public course in Chicagoland.....conditioning was 10 out of 10....
Greens are the best I’ve played in Chicago area
These greens are the best I’ve played on a public course as far as speed and condition and it’s not even close.
They are in terrific shape, the course is good shape overall including bunkers but the fairways are still in the infant stages so the grass in still thin and needs a few more growing seasons.i play mount prospect which has received a number of awards and this course is equal or better with regards to layout and greens.
Still a little pricey but really a nice corse and the best public course on the north shore, play it you won’t be disappointed
Highland Park Redo
I had last played this course about 10 years ago. I felt that it was average. It has undergone a total redo. The greens are fast and in perfect condition. The clubhouse and personal are great. The layout is not long, but there are an abundance of trees and cross bunkers to keep in challenging.
