Old Oak Country Club is situated only 20 minutes from Chicago, but the beautifully wooded terrain shaded by mature oaks and hickory trees, makes it feel as though it's much further away. Originally opened in 1926, the golf course is one of the area's oldest and even one of the oldest in the state. It has undergone many renovations over the years but it still retains its classic character. The layout offers plenty of variety with drivable par 4s and lengthy par 5s. The rolling topography provides many of the golf course's challenges, from the rolling fairways and undulating greens to the elevated tees and blind shots. Mature trees tower over the fairways, adding another tricky element to the golf course. Old Oak Country Club is challenging but fair and still quite playable, which is why it has long been a local favorite.

Bad Staff

Outside of the pro shop employee and the beverage cart girl, the rangers are very arrogant and rude. No people skills at all. I would not recommend this course to my worst enemy. I was going to stop for a beverage and food afterwards, however this was such experience today that I didn’t want to give Old Oak any more of my money and will never come back again.

Greedy Overbooking

I will NEVER understand how a golf course can have TWO league nights and think its okay to schedule t times every 10 minutes. Most golf courses will just block off t times when they have league nights this course just packs in as many people as possible. Course was in great condition but we waited to play every hole. With a line of 4 foursomes to still tee off. It was so sad to see they only care about the money and not the experience. All they have to do is change the start time for t times to 12-15 minutes instead of every 10 minutes.

Best Greens Around!

I had a lot of fun playing Old Oak. I played horribly, but that had nothing to do with the course. I found it to be in great shape even with the lack of rain as of late. The most surprising part to me was how well they’ve kept their greens. They were moving with good pace and free of a lot of blemishes you’d find at a comparable course.

Small greens narrow fairways

This puppy has some teeth… gotta be on your game at this place. Very hilly terrain. It was very hard to stick the green as they were small and fast. Layout is nice and the practice area was great. I’d give it a 3/5

Fun Local Track - Bunker Issues Though

Course was in great shape and is a really fun play, but sadly the bunkers are toast. Dirt/Sand combo made it impossible to get a legit shot even with rake and roll. The bunkers are strategic and defend a lot of the greens, but if you get in one it becomes silly golf.

Sand traps

For $50 a round the course should have more than an inch of sand in the traps.....more like dirt, ridiculous!

Course Knowlege Would Help

There are a number of holes where what you think is a good shot turns out not to be one because of course layout so good if you play with someone who knows the course.

Fill in the sand traps

The course has a very challenging layout, which is well groomed, except for the numerous bunkers around the course. The only bunker that has new sand is the one you can see from 143rd St. and coincidentally is the 18th hole. The others are unplayable it’s like hitting out of concrete. After five holes, our group decided to lift and replace out of the bunkers because they were like hitting out of a Walmart parking lot. The greens are super fast and everything slopes from back to front in one instance on number 10. I believe one of our players did not even touch his ball at the top of the green, and it ran down to within 2 feet of the cup. They need to make the greens more playable because it was not a fun round. When golf for your foursome becomes work and isn’t fun that is where I draw the line and would rather spend my money elsewhere.

Great course but bunkers need work

Overall great for a fair price. Restaurant is good. One huge negative bunkers are horrible. Bad sand is one thing but this is like concrete mix with the rocks that are in there. Our foursome just took the balls out. No sense ruining a wedge. That’s nit picky though like I said the workaround is just take the ball out.

Over booking

Great course great condition but they had some type of junior outing played first 2 holes in approximately 50 minutes then luckily rain delayed for 20 minutes but then they brought about 50 kids back on and the rest you can only imagine. Ran to the back and found an opening on 12 played the back but once got back to #3 it was literally 3 groups waiting
