Ruffled Feathers Golf Club

About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

They don’t like it to Asian Americans
1) course was good open to 1st to 3 holes we asked for keys
Female officers said you had to wait until 1:20 tee times
We just wait
2)one golfer coming to asked for keys
Female officers pass to key
What time is your tee times
one golfer answers 2:00 pm
I makes big mistakes choices to Ruffles Feathers
They don’t like Asian American
Female officers was treated totally different
Very fun course
Well maintained, very fun and challenging layout. Much more character than a lot of courses in the area. My first time here and I'll definitely be back!
More time waiting than golfing
The course was beautiful. Unique and challenging holes. Well maintained and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. My cart ran out of power during the middle of the ninth hole. I have NEVER had a cart stop in the middle of a round. Pace of play was pathetic. Tee time was 3pm and we played 15 and 16 basically in the dark. Would have been a 5 hour round if we could have finished. Cant say I enjoyed it as you can’t get in a good rhythm waiting 3-7 minutes to tee off each hole. Would like to try again for a better experience but probably won’t bother if they can’t keep the pace reasonable.
Another 1/4 star upgrade from previous play
See my 10/10/19 and 5/4/18 reviews of Ruffled Feathers. They clean the heck out of their carts and the steering wheels have plestic bags over them until you use it. All courses should consider this during the pandemic. Upon arrival was greeted by staff. Had a really nice conversation with Russ....and yes our old friend Mike was manning the halfway house with full bar/grill when we made the turn......clubhouse bar/restaurant closed. Restrooms/locker rooms/proshop open. Felt the $49 senior rate ($9 more than last year) was reasonable. Paying any more than that even on weekends I can see why others might be put off.especially if slow play occurs . Pace of play was not an issue. We teed off at 120 and finished before 5 despite the course being crowded. The course itself is in better shape than it was last year. Greens are rolling true.....and yes there's actually some grasses on the 11th tee box. Fairways in good shape. There are areas that are worn or wearing out - with a Dye design it's very difficult to maintain some of these high traffic areas. Traps....some were pretty decent and groomed. It's sad the many of the reviews on here here expect perfection.....that simply not attainable unless they charged well over $100. The only Chicagoland Dye course is interesting and fun. It's a solid 4 star track/experience. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Just don't go on a weekend when it's packed with over achievers playing the wrong tee boxes. Try to play it on a weekday afternoon for $59. Even I feel the $69 morning weekday rate for a non-senior is a bit much. Course is $45-$50 value and yes again stress it's improved from year previous....areas that need attention like course conditioning/cart path repair and the cost to play result in my full star downgrade. Still recommend.
Sept 20th 2020
I had an early round tee time on Sunday and the course was in great condition. The only downside is we had a very slow 4-some in front of us. We played the first 9 holes in just over 3 hrs. (but I shot a 39 on the front, so I couldn't complain)
I understand that it is a weekend and you get all level's of golfers out there; so I respect that.
This is the 4th time I have played this course this year... never had an issue on pace of pay before so I would not ding the course for this. Everything was very Covid friendly.
Course Operations
Excellent GC. However the operations are terrible. The starter could provide no guidance on pin positions, which is critical with so many elevated greens. The bigger issue was the pace of play. Our round took 5.5 hours. There was no ranger to manage pace of play. It was very frustrating. A few golfers behind us quit. We were forced to wait on every shot. Regretfully, I'll not play the course again.
Poorly maintained tough course
A very challenging course with narrow fairways, variety of hazards and fast fast greens! Definitely not fun for someone like me who still shoots in low 90s.. Course conditions were less than good.. from beat up tee boxes to a cart path full of potholes to somewhat beat up greens, the experience was less than the price..
