Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Golfer Reviews
Questionable course management
Had a 1230 tee time with several foursomes in front of our foresome. We were surprised the course allowed a single to go out in the middle of the day on a Saturday who proceeded to hit my once with a ball and then to nearly do it again 2 holes later. The single also drove up to our tee box every hole from 10 through 18 while we waited in the tee box waiting for the fairway to clear. Complete lack of course etiquette and a behaviour I did not expect at a course at this level. I expected better from this course.
Thank you for sharing your experience. We apologize for the inconvenience you faced during your round. We strive for a pleasant golfing atmosphere and appreciate your feedback to help us improve course etiquette. We hope to provide you with a better experience in the future.
Slow play and bunkers in terrible shape
this course pace of play was very slow. It should not take 5 hrs for a round with an 8am tee time. Also, the bunkers were in terrible shape and have been for last five years I played here.
We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear about your experience. We're actively working on improving pace of play and our course conditions. Your comments are valuable as we strive to enhance our guests' experiences. Thank you.
Good course
Nice course, well kept and challenging. The halfway house was very good with lots of options and the pro shop was very well stocked.
Pace of play was atrocious. To their credit they did say it would be slow. The Marshals seemed way more concerned about people breaking the cart path only rule more then telling the group ahead of us to pick up the pace. 3 some playing a scramble, taking 15-20 mins a hole looking for balls. No one was within 2-3 holes ahead of them and not 1 marshal came by.
Thank you for your feedback! We're glad you enjoyed the course and our amenities. We appreciate your observations about pace of play and will address this with our team to enhance the experience for everyone. We hope to see you back on the course soon!
Horse Feathers
It was my 65th birthday. For the weather conditions, it was understandable to be playing cartpath only. However, I lost multiple balls in bunkers that didn’t have any drainage. They were leaves and branches all over the course. And for a mid week rate of $85 I would expect a higher quality of course.ruffle feather seems to have taken a step down in quality. the food at the turn was excellent. The server at the turn was a grouchy old man. when we finished the round the Ranger asked us to take the cart to the garage because he didn’t wanna walk up and down the stairs himself I guess. I guess it was OK to ask us to return the cart down to the garage then walk up the stairs. . The bar was closed. We had a beverage in the pro shop - people there just didn’t seem to be happy - I didn’t see anybody smiling they didn’t seem very friendly just going through the motions. The whole golfing experience was a dud. I wouldn’t recommend your Course.
Thank you for providing your feedback. We will address your concerns with our team.
Cart died
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to finish my round because the golf cart died in the middle of the 10th hole. The clubhouse was already closed, so there was no one available to speak with about the issue or get assistance. It was frustrating to pay for a full round and not be able to complete it, especially with no management or staff available to help resolve the situation.
Hopefully the course can make sure the carts are properly maintained and have someone available to assist when issues like this happen.
We’re truly sorry to hear about your experience. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Please reach out to our General Manager, Jacob Treude, at jtreude@arcisgolf.com so we can learn more about this situation.
Pathetic
Used to be a great course. Now it’s in terrible shape and it took over 5 hours due to them jamming as many people on as possible. Avoid!
We're sorry to hear about your recent experience. We appreciate your feedback and are actively working to improve course conditions and pace of play. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us or our General Manager at jtreude@arcisgolf.com.
Disappointing
I’ve played this course many times, and this time was one of the worst experiences. Every single bunker had standing water in it, barely any had rakes. (Made it tough to get golf balls out without a retriever) No marshal enforcing pace of play- 2 hours and 45 minutes to play 9 holes. For what the round cost in comparison to other local courses, this definitely did not stack up.
We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear about your experience. We’re committed to improving our course conditions and pace of play. Your insights are valuable, and we'll address these issues to enhance the experience for all our guests. Please reach out to jtreude@arcisgolf.com for any other comments or concerns. Dye been Dye
We are fan of P. B. Dye, so....those hidden greens and faiways with movement is no a surprise.
Besides the storm just 1 one Day ago, the staff díd what its takes and show and excelents condictions. Cart play only and the pace of play was good.
Thank you for your fantastic review! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the challenging design and excellent course conditions. Our team works hard to maintain the course, even after storms. We appreciate your support and hope to see you back on the greens soon!
Nice course but has a ways to go
First time playing here in about 10 years and it was a mixed bag. Some picturesque holes to start the round and overall nice conditions but then the bunkers. What was up with the bunkers? Most of them we were letting our group pick up from and just hit from behind them because they weren’t even sand. Maybe clay? Dirt? I would think for $116 we’d at least have playability in all areas of the course but that wasn’t the case. Tee boxes were also only ok. Fairways and greens were in pretty good shape but by no means blew me away which is what you want for 3 digits. It still had big potential and was a challenging layout but it’s missing some TLC
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback and for returning to play Ruffled Feathers after so many years. We're glad to hear you enjoyed the layout, several of the course's signature holes, and found the fairways and greens to be in good condition. Your comments regarding the bunkers have been shared with our team as we continue working to improve course conditions and the overall guest experience. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to do better!
Strong except for bunkers
Course was in very good shape except for the bunkers which aren’t currently sand traps because there is little to no sand in them. Hoping the course addresses this deficiency.
Thank you for your feedback! We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the course overall. We appreciate your insights regarding the bunkers and will definitely look into that. Your input helps us improve and provide the best experience for our golfers.
Not worth the time or money.
Pace of play 5.25 hours. No ranger telling slow foursomes to pick up pace. Bunkers completely unplayable. Cart paths inadequate to say the least.
Thank you for your feedback, Patrick. We appreciate your insights on the pace of play and course conditions. We’re constantly working to enhance the experience for our guests and will address your concerns with our team to ensure improvements are made. Your input is invaluable to us.
Poor Management
What an amazing course but unfortunately it’s very clear whoever manages it is terrible at their job. All the tee boxes were in poor condition and was obviously the divots haven’t been seeded for weeks. Same thing for the fairways, divots were everywhere. Three different holes I had my ball land in a divot. This isn’t competition golf so not a big deal but just stating it to show they are not maintaining the course. Goose poop all over the practice green. Driving range in terrible condition as well. Such a shame because it could be so beautiful. None of these fixes are expensive, it’s just about managing your employees and staying on top of things.
Fun course. Worst bunkers.
Bunkers had weeds growing and we’re not maintained
Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your observations regarding the bunkers and are committed to improving our course maintenance. Your input helps us enhance the experience for all our guests. We hope to welcome you back soon for a better experience!
Wish I could play here more
Only complaint is about the group in front of us that was waiting for the group in front of them to get on the green every hole.
Thanks for the great feedback, Bobber! We’re thrilled you enjoyed your time with us. We appreciate your understanding regarding the pace of play and will continue to work on ensuring a smooth experience for all our guests. Hope to see you back on the course soon!
They have given up...
This used to be a very nice course/facility, but both are unfortunately run down at this point... there's not a single bunker on the course that's playable (silently acknowledged by the staff by the lack of rakes anywhere). The bathrooms were gross. Staff was very friendly and the course has great bones, but it feels like ownership has just given up on trying to maintain it... still happy to charge you $120+ for it though... such a shame
Thank you for your feedback, smokingatlas. We’re sorry to hear your experience didn’t meet expectations. We appreciate your kind words about our staff and will address your concerns about the course and facilities to ensure improvements are made. Your input is invaluable as we strive to enhance our guests' experience.
Course in transition?
The bunkers were complete trash. Hard pan sand, pipes sticking out or just overgrown with weeds. If their plan is too make them into waste bunkers, they should mark them as such. Overall, the fairways and greens were in good shape. The tee boxes were beat up. Not a $100 course. Not the course it was several years ago.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the bunker and tee box conditions impacted your experience. We appreciate you recognizing that the fairways and greens were in good shape, but we understand your concerns regarding the overall course conditions and value. Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention.
Not ready to play.
Love the course but no maintenance, no sand in traps, lazily cut fairways, no water for drinking on a 88 degree day, we saw the cart girl once on the 2nd hole and not again. When we finished, at 5:00, the amenities were closed. When you charge a high price, the amenities should be available.
Thank you for your feedback, giglr6156. We’re glad you enjoyed the course! We apologize for the issues you encountered and appreciate your insights on maintenance and amenities. Your comments will help us enhance our guest experience moving forward. We hope to welcome you back soon!
Not even close to worth $110
$110 for a round here is offensive. Every bunker on the course is either waste or full of stagnant green water and weeds. There is no gps on the carts, no ball washers, no water to drink, no bathrooms, and no bev cart on a Saturday. It’s truly robbery for them to charge even $70. Go play Cog or seven bridges instead where they maintain the course and have typical amenities for $100+ round.
We're sorry to hear about your experience. Your feedback is valuable, and we take it seriously. We're working on improvements to ensure our course meets the high standards our guests expect. Thank you for sharing your thoughts; we hope to provide a better experience in the future.
Run down
I have played this course several times, but not in the last 3 to 5 years. We went back there on Mother’s Day thinking that we were going to have an enjoyable nice round of golf. However, the golf course is in need of much maintenance. The bunkers have very little sand in them lots of rocks and none of them were maintained. In fact there weren’t even any rakes on the golf course. The geese on the golf course have droppings everywhere, including on the greens. I should say not all the greens, but several of them. In most places on the golf course, the rough was so long that we had to take several drops because we couldn’t find our ball. The four of us that played really thought it was in horrible shape and probably will never go back unless something changes.
Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your recent experience didn't meet expectations. We're committed to improving our course conditions and appreciate your insights. Your input is vital as we strive to enhance our guests' experiences. We hope to welcome you back for a better round in the future.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a 5-star rating! We're delighted to know you enjoyed your experience. Your support means a lot to us, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon!
