Great bang for buck
I've golfed this course more than I care to admit. The layout is nice with a few challenging holes (3 will be more than you bargain for if you're not dialed in with your driver). Because of the cost, proximity and availability, I consider this one of the best short par 4 courses in the Chicagoland area. The friendliness of the staff keeps me coming back. Side note: They rent new golf boards (think of a motorized surfboard with wheels). Best time to go on weekends is certainly first thing in the morning as this place packs up quick.
Poor conditions
It may be early in the season and it may have rained the night before. However, based on the poor course conditions the golf now price was no bargain. Paid for 18 holes with a cart but when my group showed up only the back nine was open and no carts. Tried to replay the back nine but by then there was a backup. It would have been nice to be alerted when the online reservations were made two hours prior to tee times.
Friendly and comfortable course!
I am happy to shoot under 100. This course is pretty forgiving in spots. No bunkers to contend with (maybe one on 10). Tough hole on 18 with a long par 3. Great course to take your Dad to. I did. We had a such a good time I came back with a friend and improved my score by 5 strokes. Go, have fun here!
Not worth the money
For the price of the course it is not worth the money. I paid right around 45$ for probably the slowest round of golf I have ever played. The course was in poor condition besides the greens and not well maintained. Needless to say I will not be going back.
Very Short Forest Preserve Golf
My friend and I played here twice this year.
In early April, we decided to try this course out because it was a halfway point. We ended up only playing 17 of 18 holes due to flooding on Hole #3 (so be sure to call in advance to avoid what we ran into). Despite the good pace, I vowed to never play this course again because it was too short (5,600 yards) and I felt that $40+ was way too much.
Four months later, my friend and I had a change of heart and decided to return for our second round. After playing the course again, I can say that I don't quite feel the same way. While the pace of play was a little slow for my liking, we still managed to finish in 4 hours (probably because it's so short). If you live close by and are looking for something easy, I would recommend Chick Evans. I wouldn't shell out more than $35, though.
Perfect Day
Weather was perfect so that usually influences me on total evaluation! Lush trees and beautiful paths through forestry made for delightful transition between holes. Bambi's appearance on one hole was an added attraction.
Great, short, fun course!
It's been a long while since I played this golf course. I live close by and usually travel further north when playing golf. But I wanted to see what improvements have been made since Casper golf. I was very pleasantly surprised. This is a fun course to play. Definitely will be playing there again soon.
Fun Short Course
Chick Evans is a fun, relatively short course that manages to mix in woods, water, and long-cut rough to create challenges, while rewarding straigjt shooters. We played twice in the same week and both times, found the course is very good shape, especially given the relatively high volume of rounds.
Tee boxes and hole descriptions are well maintained and described. Our cart had a book with useful distance measures for key obstacles and markers for each hole. That was a great aid in planning how to play each hole. Fairways and greens are guarded with well-placed trees and hazards and water comes into play on multiple holes. Greens played flat with subtle breaks, offering great scoring chances.
Staff were friendly and prices were reasonable. We played an early round for $24 and a mid-morning round for $30. Both seemed at least a bargain. A beverage cart was fully stocked and circled past several times. We appreciated the attention. Pace was fine; despite a mix of walkers and carts, our rounds moved along just fine.
The course is located in a forest, so prepare for bugs and long shadows in the early morning and late afternoon. The rough is just that: rough that is best to avoid.
Ovetall, we enjoyed our rounds and plan to play again soon.
Bargain
For $10 riding it was a great deal. If they have the deal again I'll play. I would not pay $40 to play there though.
Recent round
Was very backed up for our 215pm tee time. didn't tee off until at least 245pm. Was told when checking in that they were out of carts and it's at least 30 minute wait for a cart, so we walked.
It's fine, it's a municipal course I don't have huge expectations, but they clearly weren't ready for a busy day? Took a bit over 5 hours to play 18.
We are sorry to hear that the pace of play was slower than expected during your round. During popular golf holidays, such as Father’s day with nice weather, we have a high volume of play and the pace tends to be slower than is typical for the course. We understand pace of play is extremely important for having an enjoyable round. Our main goal is to provide each guest with a fun and enjoyable golfing experience and we hope you will return to Play Chick Evans again soon so we have an opportunity to offer you an improved experience!
Terrible greens
Greens are bumpy & barely have any grass on them very dissapointing almost impossible to putt
We appreciate your feedback regarding your experience at Chick Evans. During your round the course was in the process of aerification. The aerification process is a necessary process all golf courses must go through in order to keep our greens healthy and in the best shape possible. We understand that this is frustrating and are happy to say that the greens are healing nicely and will be back to normal condition shortly! Nice course and great staff
County courses in the past were not very desirable but they were reasonably priced. Currently the staff at Chick Evans are doing a great job on conditions and atmosphere. They are all friendly and welcoming.
Surprised
It's been a while since playing Chick Evans. Frankly the course had not been in good shape from waht I remember. Apparently they've had a change in greens keeper, and for what they've done. I'm surprise with how the course has turned out. Fairways look better and the greens are good for this time of the year. It's not a very hard course, but a good one for the price.
good course and reasonable price
the course was in good condition the staff were friendly so my wife and I had a great time.
Nice Place
Very nice place for a round of Golf. Grounds are well maintained and the staff is very polite. Good times
Beautiful fall day
Course was wet from recent very heavy rain.,
but played just fine. Greens were in very good
shape & consistent. Lots of challenges.
Wet day play
Course is more challenging due to allot of standing water. Fairways were not in good shape for the same reason. I think on a dry day this would be a very nice course to play. Even with the conditions itb was still an enjoyable round of golf
6 hours of life I won't get back
Half hour delay due to amount of golfers on course and lack of carts. There was only one hole that didn't have a back-up. Sprinklers went off on a back 9 green after we had cleared it. Overall a poorly managed course that requires a ranger and better management. Staff was apologetic for the delays but doesn't make up for the long round.
Good basic course
The course was in really good condition. It is a fairly easy course. The grounds are not a highly manicured, if that is what you are looing for, but it's a great value if you are looking to just get out and play 18 for not a lot of money.
Thank you for your feedback, we understand that pace is important to your round and are currently working on a pace of play program to speed things up on the course. We look forward to implementing this program so we can offer each guest an even better golfing experience.
