Beautiful fall day
Course was wet from recent very heavy rain.,
but played just fine. Greens were in very good
shape & consistent. Lots of challenges.
Wet day play
Course is more challenging due to allot of standing water. Fairways were not in good shape for the same reason. I think on a dry day this would be a very nice course to play. Even with the conditions itb was still an enjoyable round of golf
6 hours of life I won't get back
Half hour delay due to amount of golfers on course and lack of carts. There was only one hole that didn't have a back-up. Sprinklers went off on a back 9 green after we had cleared it. Overall a poorly managed course that requires a ranger and better management. Staff was apologetic for the delays but doesn't make up for the long round.
Good basic course
The course was in really good condition. It is a fairly easy course. The grounds are not a highly manicured, if that is what you are looing for, but it's a great value if you are looking to just get out and play 18 for not a lot of money.
Kind staff and nice value considering price
Staffs were Very kind.
Course is beautiful and easy for beginner and intermediate.
Very reasonable price.
Overall Experience
This course is a great forest preserve course. Even though it is fairly easy, it is well maintained and worth the money. The only downside is that the course is very short. Other than that, the experience was fantastic and will be playing this again.
Good local option
Great course within the city. Play early if you want to beat the rush.
Great for a quick round
I know this course will get much busier during the summer, but it was perfect for a quick round after work. Only got through 15 holes before it got dark, but pretty easily got them in 3 hours and for $20 incl cart. Sure the course isn't anything amazing, but how can you beat that deal for a decent round of golf?
Easy Muni for very little money
Layout and holes/course are not that challenging for anyone more advanced than a beginner. It is a nice cheap course that isn't in too bad a shape for someone just starting out to get a feel for the game or a short track for practice. That's exactly what this trip was...a quick inexpensive practice trying out new balls. Thank heavens for Billy Casper golf because this course is 3 times better than it used to be under Todd Stroger's management yet the course need some more TLC and bunkers in it's design. Some grass repair/re-sodding but other than that if you go in with the understanding it's a municipal course for about 20 on Golfnow then you are good to go. If you think it's Doral Resort and Spa or even Pheasant Run or Saint Andrews (london,England or addison,IL ) then you'll be disappointed or should try Dunne or Joe Louis.
This course is a pleasant surprise.
Chick Evans is a pleasant surprise of a course to golf. Great for a day you can fit in a round and quite a few challenging holes for a new golfer such as myself. You will find a couple dog leg holes as well as some water that will challenge your drive for a great day of golfing.
Cheap and decent
Nothing special here, and the course could be a little better maintained, but overall its a decent course for the price. Not a favorite but a worthwhile time.
Forest preserve golf
The staff was friendly when you actually interacted with them. The course leaves nothing to be desired... Then again it is a great preserve course. Expect sandy greens, hard dried out fairways, and tee breaking rock hard tee boxes. Still playable and for $29.99 it makes sense.
quick an easy
Alright price and no hassle at course. quick and easy
A Hackers Paradise
For such a nice setting, this course is terrible. The fairways (when you can differentiate them from the rough) are hacked up, the greens are drying out and chewed up (maybe beyond repair??), and the rough is cut so if you hit into it you can pretty much forget about that ball and move on.
The pace of play here is awful. For a slope of 107 there is just no excuse for a 4 1/2 hour round, unbelievable!
I would not recommend this course to anyone that takes the game seriously...it's too depressing to see a course in this condition...not to mention; it takes away from your game.
The Staff is amazing
Great friendly staff and was very accomodating with my experience. The course wasn't in great shape. the greens were horrible. ( I know you are maintenance on them). Too many weeds and the fringes weren't cut properly. The price was right so I wasn't complaining too much.
Course was in bad shape
The course was full of mud. The grass was way to long. I couldn't tell if I was on the fairway or in the rough. And on top of everything they just airated and didn't post it on the golfnow site. All and all I was very disappointed.
Should be called Chick Weed, not Evans--insult to Chick
Chick Evans is the course I learned golf on. (That's why my sand play is so poor as they have very few sand traps). The price of $40 that I paid was way too high for the condition of the course. Within the last month, I played Highland Woods which is another park district course and paid $40. It was like playing Kemper when compared to Chick Evans. Officially Chick Evans is forever known as Chick Weed.
