Foss Park Golf Course
About
Foss Park Golf Course has a convenient location in North Chicago that is an easy drive in from the city. It's a public course that is known amongst locals for being one of the area's best golf values. The layout is wide-open save for three holes that are framed by towering mature trees. The golf course strikes a good balance between being challenging and playable. The fairways are narrow and demand accuracy but the massive greens are more forgiving. Each hole offers a variety of different playing options, which makes the course appealing to a wide range of skill levels. The golf course has plenty of sand, plus water hazards come into play on several holes. There is also a driving range and large practice putting green available at Foss Park G.C.

Good course to play
Very friendly staff and the course was in good condition.
A family friedly Course
I have played the course on many occasions and find it very open and easy to play. You have a nice driving range and putting green to use before or after your round. When you get on the course it does not try to beat you up at first. The first couple of holes are straight at you and somewhat easy. But then the challenge starts. There are trees lined fairways and most have ample room.
Dead fairways.
First of all, this is the first course I ever played on that had high power electricity lines running through the middle of the course, strange. The fairways were 75% dead, and by dead I mean they died and aren’t going to return in July. Yellow, dirt oval spots everywhere. I've never seen a course in such condition. I was baffled. Sure, its only late April but I’ve played well over 15 rounds already on different golf courses and nothing compared to this. Out of the 18 holes I played, maybe 2-3 holes were legit golf holes the rest was dead, dirt fairways. The greens were however in decent shape (I’m assuming their entire budget was spent on the greens) and big. But the rest of the course, in the opinion, a goat pasture. Save your money and time. I will never return here and will make sure fellow golfers save their money and time.
Foss Park
Green is the worst I've played at this early golf season. Fairway is terrible. A lot of brown spot or dead grass.
"An excellent value"
A very enjoyable course. Well kept, friendly staff and above average food.
Nice course and well maintained
The course is very well maintained. It's a little bit easy as most of the holes are pretty straight. The pace is a little bit slow though as many seniors were playing this course. I would definitely recommend this course.
This course is a gem, hidden away in N. Chicago
The staff is always very friendly, the course is always in good shape. Check this place out, if you haven't.
Nice course good value played very very slow !
Course in good shape but bring a pillow to nap while you wait.
Course is good but staff could be friendly
I played a round of golf last weekend as I wanted to try different courses close by. No problem finding the place, ample parking. I had booked by GolfNow, when I checked in I was asked to show the confirmation on my phone. Paid $2 deposit for the cart key which was a little surprising as I havent had a experience like that before. The person who checked us could have been a little bit more friendly. We went to the cart and didnt see a scorecard tagged so had to go back and get one. Would have been nice if the person who checked us in could have pointed it out to us in the first place. The starter also didnt seem too friendly and just asked us to begin. I have had nicer starters inquiring if it was our first time, telling us something about the course. We were the only cart on the first tee so it wasnt like it was very busy. Anyway course itself is nice, generous fairways and big greens. It has been maintained nicely as well. There are some electric lines running through the course which I dont care for too much but didnt seem to affect us too much. There is a beverage cart, but the person just seemed to go past by us without even slowing down to see if we needed any drinks. Overall the course is nice and but for the staff I may have thought to go back and play there.
The greens are the best in the area.
Play was a little slow. The course was in great shape. I would recommend playing this course if you have never played.
Good variety
Mix of some pretty sporty holes with some pretty pedestrian holes. Overall not bab.
good course to work on swing or game
The course is pretty flat with just a few difficult tee shots. I was able to swing away on several drives because there isn't much trouble missing fairways. Even on holes I played hybrids and irons off of tees i was still able to hit greens. Large flat greens are easy to hit but can easily result in three putts if lag putting isn't good. I was a little concerned with the pro shops atitude about my golfnow tee time, they seemed a little annoyed. There was no time management on course and pace of play was pretty slow. Overall s decent value with discount. I would never play course again at full price.
very nice course
well kept clean good food very friendly staff good layout cart to car pickup and drop off to car will go again
Fast and easy
This course is a good value. Wide open, easy course with a fast pace. I would have liked to see more obstacles, but overall was a decent course for under $20.
Course in great condition..
Had not played here for quite a few years, but never remembered it being in the condition I found it today.
Greens and fairways were in the best shape in years.
Good course with some challenging holes that require accurate tee shots. This is not the most picturesque course, due in part to the high-tension power lines running through it - but it's not surrounded by houses, either. Plenty of tree-lined fairways and a creek with a few ponds. The greens and fairways were in very good condition and the rough was manageable - you could find your ball and hit out of it but it was a fair challenge.
Worth adding to the "go play" list
It was a little back logged at the first tee. We liked the course for its old feel and playability. The slope rating is right yet it feels
more challenging on some holes. The downloaded directions to the course were way off, however and we ended up driving around for an extra half hour. You need to fix that.
My New Home Course
Excellent Value with the "Foss Card"
Tremendous place to hone your skills for other courses in the area. Not a lot of bunkers on the course, but enough tree hazards to make up for it.
Cheap and good condition
Golfing many public courses in Chicago, this is a great deal. First of it has decent length which is hard to find around the city. Secondly the course was in good condition, especially compared to Forest Reserve courses around the area. While the staff and landscape leaves something to be desired (there are high voltage power lines running through the middle of the course). Overall, you get more then what you pay for. Very forgiving course but the greens roll nice and provide a solid challenge with the flat stick.
What a surprise!
Congrats to North Chicago Park District. 1st time I've played course and was greatly surprised at how well maintained and how large the course property is. The greens run true and were fast even with some rain drops. Thanks!
