Foss Park Golf Course
About
Foss Park Golf Course has a convenient location in North Chicago that is an easy drive in from the city. It's a public course that is known amongst locals for being one of the area's best golf values. The layout is wide-open save for three holes that are framed by towering mature trees. The golf course strikes a good balance between being challenging and playable. The fairways are narrow and demand accuracy but the massive greens are more forgiving. Each hole offers a variety of different playing options, which makes the course appealing to a wide range of skill levels. The golf course has plenty of sand, plus water hazards come into play on several holes. There is also a driving range and large practice putting green available at Foss Park G.C.

3.25 stars
Enjoyable day at Foss Park but it was cart path only.....given the rains okay but the course really wasn't all that wet. Made for some slightly slow play. This is a nice old school parkland course however there are a few holes played through "forest" and these holes are too tight/claustrophobic for the below average golfer.....so if you don't drive the ball to correct side of the fairway or go in the trees good luck. Greens rolling pretty smooth for this time of year. Nice track, nice folks at the clubhouse and beverage prices are decent. We were lucky to play mid-morning as the course in the afternoon got quite backed up.
nice course
Fairly forgiving except for 4 or 5 holes. All holes don't look the same. The greens are surprisingly nice all year round.
Flat as pancake. Back 9 plays like a different course
There are a few things I like about this course: I was playing friday afternoon and pace of play was excellent (I finished 18 hole for 3:45 hrs). Also, the big trees are beautiful! I can tell this course is an OLD course and has been around for a long time. This reminds me of golfing in the mountains of Napa Valley CA.
Also don't judge by the course by the first 2 holes. back 9 plays like a completely different course
What I don't like:
1) This course is flat as pancake. FLAT. No undulation. No nothing.
2) Electric cables everywhere above the hole. If you hit your shot high enough, you may hit the wires
3) condition of the course was pretty horrible. Bald spots everywhere
4) very narrow fairway, though the fairways are lined with mature trees and look beautiful
good location
location, drink, food, sack, stap, service are good.
GOOD VALUE
Nice course for the money. Some challenging holes. Others are straight forward for the average golfer to have fun.
Shot 74 best game this year
I was pared up with 3 other players, 2 which had played there before and provided some good guidance to some of the more difficult holes. The rough were very forgiving if there are a few trees to block you approach shots. But if you could hit some what straight in your drive, your next shot to the big greens are easy, very big greens for GIR approaches. If you are a good putter, you can score low there. Overall a great course and value for what I got in golfnow.com
Course of the people..
Fun course to play. Good mix of open holes with a few very tight ones. Huge greens were in good shape even after a big morning rain. Refurbished clubhouse with a nice 19th hole and grill.
Question: Where are the "Blue" tee markers?
not to bad!!!
Not to bad.... I shot 74 here... there are some holes that challenge your game...i recomend these golf course with a friend...
Foss Park
The course was in good shape. We would have liked another set of tees. All they offered was forward and white tees. The scorecard had tees for blue.
Great value
Course was in very good shape. Cost $75 for three and received a we each received a sleeve of Callaway balls after booking on golf now.com.
Good cource for the money
Fun course for the money. free sleeve of balls was nice. The course was relatively easy. The ranger needs to do his job though super slow 4 some had 4 holes open ahead and he wouldn't go say something and they wouldnt let us play through. still a good course for the money.
Great course
The course is well maintained and the greens are tough but in great shape. The staff are excellent and friendly.
Good choice on any day
Old oaks everywhere make for great views. Fairways in excellent shape. Large immaculate greens. And the clubhouse is friendly, with good food & beer.
nothing but accurate shot. U be the winner
Good challengable course. Not real hard but every shot to be accurate. Pretty good course for sharpening all clubs. Price ok That is very important. I will recommend sure.
Excellent price for the course..
I've played here a bunch of times before mostly 9 holes. This course is very well kept, the staff friendly and play is usually at a very nice pace. I would recommend this course to anyone I know, the price is reasonable. I love that the driving range and practice greens have plenty of space to warm up.
Fun course at a good price for a weekend
I thought the course was in pretty good shape and the pace of play was very good. I had my daughter out with me who is a high handicap, yet the course was good for both of us. I played back tees and from 6700 yds, it is a good course. She played at the ladies tees, that were around 5000 yards, giving her a sense of accmplishment on good shots. Overall, I liked this course and would come back. Greens were a little slow, but the course is far with a few challenging holes.
Fantastic Beverage Cart Girl
The course is a little rough around the edges and needs some rain or watering. Too many dead patches and not enough green stuff. Sorry Foss Parkers but the course doesn't deserve to charge $50.00 on the weekend, thank god you can go to GolfNow for a great $20.00 deal!
The one exception to the day was the beverage cart girl whom visited our foursome 4 to 6 visits throughout the day and went back to the clubhouse for more Summer Shanty's!!!!
Nice to be back
I hadn't played Foss Park for close to a decade due to relocating. The renovated club house is terrific. Staff was 5 stars across the board.
They've also improved the practice facilities and flipped the front and back 9. Sets up nicely to start your round.
I've played here twice recently and the aerated greens are real close to back. As for the power lines the first time you see them it seems odd. But frankly they're not an issue for me.
I look forward to returning a few more times this season.
A good place to play
The weather was cool and the course had taken a battering over the winter. The fairways were bare and the greens still had airations holes. But, I am sure that these conditions will improve over the spring weeks.
Always a Good Value, Needs a Better Ranger
I always have a good time at this course. Challenging and one of the best values in terms of difficulty/slope for the dollar.
This time however, there was a foursome 2 groups ahead who backed up 5 groups behind them. They were playing 100% polite golf. From the 8th hole to the 14th hole, we were stuck behind these clowns. We told a ranger at the turn, who then promptly went to the first tee and was never seen until the clubhouse.
Hi there, thanks for playing Foss Park GC. We're glad you enjoyed your round and given the conditions and weather be a little more ideal I'm sure you'd have a more enjoyable round. We want to do all we can to make it a great day out on the course! Hope to see you again soon.
