Veteran's Memorial Golf Course

Course needs thorough rehab. A once good track has been allowed to run down

This course has a fantastic layout only to be ruined by the incredibly poor maintenance. The greens are burned out. Literally just dirt. The fairways have not been maintained either. And don’t even think about finding your ball if you miss the fairways. The rough is shin high with large patches of month old hay from the last time a mower visited here. But if you can’t find a tee time elsewhere, I suggest not playing. This course is not worth it.

This was ridiculous. To call it a golf course is an insult to golf courses. I used to play here often back in the day, and it was kept in good condition. Now, however, it seems stray out of a post-apocalyptic film. The greens are the WORST I've EVER seen. Mushrooms and dandelions growing out of areas where there is actual grass on the greens. What a mess. Why even have a golf course if they are going to neglect it this drastically? They're better off selling it for a developer, even though I hate when we lose golf courses.

Do not waste your time or money here!!! I played this course last year and it was bad. Tried to give it another chance but never again. The putting green is dirt. The greens on the course are dirt. The rough is more than 6 inches high and the leave the clipping on the rough so a ball just off the fairway can get lost under all the clippings. The price to play looks affordable but with only a few more dollars you can play Lake Bluff, Deerpath, Buffalo Grove…etc, where they actually take care of their golf course. Will never play here again, and to be honest they should lose the right to call it Veterans Memorial because this golf course is a shameful representation of all of our troops past and present.

I really wish MWR would take better care of this facility. This used to be a beautiful course. This course needs a full redo. The greens are dead, the rough is like jungle. I mean you can’t see your ball if you’re standing on top of it. I use to play here in the late 90’s to mid 2000’s with my uncles and their friends who are retired Navy and Marines. Please do better.

Course greens had no grass and it had been removed. The course had been recently mowed and the grass seemed like hay all throughout the course and was often unplayable and several balks were lost . No maintenance of the course

The course was horrible. The greens were all dirt as the grass had been burned off due to poor fertilizer. The fairways had been cut but the layers of grass that had been cut. This was the worse course that I’ve played on in Illinois and I will not be returning to it. The course manager knew the course was in rough shape and failed to inform us prior to our paying for the round.

The greens are non existent… fairways aren’t in much better condition. I’ve never in my life seen such horrible Conditions

Grass not mowed at all. Greens were brown and chunky.

Use to play this course often 5-10 years ago so I thought i would give it another chance now that rates were lower. The course was in such bad condition it was unplayable. The greens were actually dirt with weeds growing in them. Rough was so overgrown and unmoved that you would loose the ball if you were anywhere slightly off.

Decrepit conditions. Needs gov funding ASAP or else will go under

Worst conditions ever. Greene were not playable. Dead. Diseased. Brown. Crusty. Awful. Tee boxes were not maintained. Won’t play it again

The greens are barren, literally almost no grass on 15 of the 18 holes.

And the rough hasn't been mowed in who knows how long, it too deep.

We should have been given a refund.

Ever since this course changed to veterans memorial it has gone down hill. This once beautiful and affordable course has been so mismanaged that they can’t even manage to mow the grass properly. They have destroyed the greens by dumping fertilizers on them and not watering after. I would not recommend anyone play here unless you are getting drunk or really suck at golf. They don’t have enough golf carts so you may arrive for your tee time and be told you have to walk or wait. They have a small bar and food service. Used to be really nice but now good luck if it is open. Over all this is the worst course in Lake County.

I played here last summer and had a great experience. Saw a bunch of open tee times and figured something was up but decided to book anyways. The course is in terrible shape. Most of the greens are brown and you can’t get the ball to stop reasonably. Rough is barely cut in most places. Played 5 holes before deciding to call it quits and the pro shop was nice enough to give us a rain check for 9. Hopefully they get their act together and I can enjoy it later on in the season.

This course should be removed from GolfNow as the conditions make it nearly unplayable. This course hasn’t seen a lawnmower in a month and it shows. The greens are literally burnt to a point where you might as well leave your putter at home. My group and I called it quits after 9 holes. Total game waste of time and money - I will never play here again.

Beautiful property but poorly kept. Greens are brown and full of weeds. Roughs are not mowed and the parts that are mowed have grass clippings buildup. Down tree branches just laying around the course. Even the driving range net is not up properly so there are range balls all over hole 18. It’s a base course but someone needs to take charge of this. Embarrassing.
