Golfer Reviews
Veterans Bust
The veterans who run this course do not deserve it. played on labor day weekend and it looked like a back forty cow pasture. back nine was closed and front nine was temporary greens (on a huge holiday weekend, got to be kidding)! lost every ball in the rough cuz it had not been mown in months, ten inches plus of rough. the veterans should be ashamed of themselves. instead of a shining light for veterans, it's a disgrace. such a shame cuz the course layout is awesome and could be an amazing course, but they don't care about it and treat it like a garbage dump. some group needs to come in and turn this track around otherwise we will be holding a "memorial" for its demise...
Course is effectively closed
Course is effectively closed. Only one other car in the parking lot when I played. Only 9 holes “open” with temporary greens. Everything was unkept from the grass being uncut and a foot high to bunkers full of weeds. Course needs to either close completely or have a serious refurbishment. Pace of play is the only positive as no one else was on the course
Veterans Memorial golf course
Complete waste of time and money.
Only front nine open and temporary greens
Worst part was grass along fairways was 8-12 inches tall.
Had a foursome only played 9holes it was so bad.
We each lost at least 8 balls each.
Won’t go back for a few years
It will take time to get the course back to where it was years ago.
Should be ashamed taking people’s money
This used to be a great little course with nice layout . Great value friendly staff . That is no longer the case. I’d give it zero stars if I could. As a veteran and an avid golfer they should be ashamed to even label this an active golf course and charge people to play it. The rrough doesn’t look like it’s been mowed all season , traps are dirt holes , and the greens. They’re literally burned out piles of mud. Forget putting. It’s a shame what this place has become. Didn’t even finish my full round.
They should pay you to golf here
Greens are so rough they haven’t seen grass in years might as well putt in a gravel parking lot , rough is so thick if you don’t hit a “fairway” you will never find your ball. Fairways are like rough on every other courses. Will never return
Fun layout
different. This course has great bones and a lot of potential. However the conditions are really bad. Greens are burnt except for maybe 2 of them. Fairways are more like rough and the rough is matted down weeds. It happens, I talked with the staff and he explained it was just bad luck all around. Mike was the person who helped me, he encouraged me to write a review and be as honest as I could. Super nice person it was welcoming, and the carts are good carts. Overall if the conditions were better this could easily be an incredible course. I most likely will not come back this season, but I would love to see what they can do with it for next season.
Veterans's Memorial Golf Course
This golf course is fun and has a great layout. Unfortunately this course is in awful shape. This course requires years of professional conditioning and grooming before I will ever come back to play it. Many of the putting greens grass was dead. The grass required cutting in places that was critical. This course requires a true first cut, second cut and third cut grooming. Do not play this course until it has been brought back to life, it is now dead. One get's the impression this course is soon to be purchased and bull dozed over for new condos. This course is in a great location just off of Hwy 41. If this golf course could become reborn I would play it often, this golf course could truly be made into a gem if management only cared. This golf course has been grossly neglected by poor management. No excuse for this course to be in such poor condition.

Course needs thorough rehab. A once good track has been allowed to run down
BEWARE
This course has a fantastic layout only to be ruined by the incredibly poor maintenance. The greens are burned out. Literally just dirt. The fairways have not been maintained either. And don’t even think about finding your ball if you miss the fairways. The rough is shin high with large patches of month old hay from the last time a mower visited here. But if you can’t find a tee time elsewhere, I suggest not playing. This course is not worth it.
Really?
This was ridiculous. To call it a golf course is an insult to golf courses. I used to play here often back in the day, and it was kept in good condition. Now, however, it seems stray out of a post-apocalyptic film. The greens are the WORST I've EVER seen. Mushrooms and dandelions growing out of areas where there is actual grass on the greens. What a mess. Why even have a golf course if they are going to neglect it this drastically? They're better off selling it for a developer, even though I hate when we lose golf courses.
Do not waste your time or money here!!!
Do not waste your time or money here!!! I played this course last year and it was bad. Tried to give it another chance but never again. The putting green is dirt. The greens on the course are dirt. The rough is more than 6 inches high and the leave the clipping on the rough so a ball just off the fairway can get lost under all the clippings. The price to play looks affordable but with only a few more dollars you can play Lake Bluff, Deerpath, Buffalo Grove…etc, where they actually take care of their golf course. Will never play here again, and to be honest they should lose the right to call it Veterans Memorial because this golf course is a shameful representation of all of our troops past and present.
What happened?!?!
I really wish MWR would take better care of this facility. This used to be a beautiful course. This course needs a full redo. The greens are dead, the rough is like jungle. I mean you can’t see your ball if you’re standing on top of it. I use to play here in the late 90’s to mid 2000’s with my uncles and their friends who are retired Navy and Marines. Please do better.
Course
Course greens had no grass and it had been removed. The course had been recently mowed and the grass seemed like hay all throughout the course and was often unplayable and several balks were lost . No maintenance of the course
Horrible Course conditions
The course was horrible. The greens were all dirt as the grass had been burned off due to poor fertilizer. The fairways had been cut but the layers of grass that had been cut. This was the worse course that I’ve played on in Illinois and I will not be returning to it. The course manager knew the course was in rough shape and failed to inform us prior to our paying for the round.
Don’t waste your money
The greens are non existent… fairways aren’t in much better condition. I’ve never in my life seen such horrible Conditions
