Nice Course, But Disappointing Rain Policy for Out-of-Town Guests
We recently played at The Fort Golf Resort while visiting Indianapolis and were enjoying the round until the course was closed mid-way due to rain. While we completely understand the need to suspend play for weather and safety, the way it was handled left us disappointed.
The staff did issue a rain check and a partial refund for the holes we didn’t get to play, which we appreciated. However, the rain check was only good for golf and not offered as a shop credit or other alternative. Since we were visiting from out of town and won’t have the opportunity to return, the rain check is essentially useless to us.
It would be great if The Fort Golf Resort had a more flexible policy for non-local players—especially at a destination course that likely draws many travelers. A shop credit or more tailored option would have left us with a much better impression.
The course itself is beautiful and well-kept, but unfortunately, this experience put a damper on what could have been a highlight of our trip.
Pete dye course
This Pete Dye course was in good shape. Some of the holes are very difficult. There’s a surprising change in elevation on several holes. There are numerous environmentally sensitive areas. In southern Indiana we call those weeds. Most of them are not in play. It got slow at the end, and I did not see a ranger around the course. Overall a very good experience.
The fort
It’s a nice course certainly over priced for a city course at 101 dollars don’t even have advanced carts .
Very nice golf course
Enjoyed playing. The staff was super helpful. Course was in great shape Fun day
Bunkers not worked
Great course! But, for the premium price they charge, bunkers should be cared for prior to a packed Memorial Day. Not one was raked/prepared.
Nice, but pricey
This is yet another great Pete Dye design. Such an enjoyable course to play. Unfortunately, it's over $100 to play on the weekends. I don't feel like they should be able to charge quite this much. A $70-$80 price would seem more reasonable to me! Lots of undulation, well manicured, cool course
Disappointed
Course not in good shape but still love the layout.
Overall a great course
Pete dye never disappoints! Great course with some crazy elevation changes. I could tell that the greens had been aerated somewhat recently, as there were some vague plug-marks still visible on some greens. The range and practice putting green are both good, but their chipping area has no fairway, only thick rough, which I find strange
Sunday eve play. We got all 18 holes in starting at 4:40
Everything was great, but the rough was sooo long. Needed to be mowed. Impossible to find your balls at times. Also the bathrooms out on the course were all locked. We had to come to the clubhouse to use the facilities.
Great Course Rough Conditioning
First of all, I play this course a lot and really love the layout. This past round was disappointing because the course was in the poorest condition I have seen in years. The rough was mowed in spots and out of control deep in spots. The greens were extremely slow and the tees were in bad shape, especially for May. The staff is always friendly and they do have a starter and a ranger. There are a few holes with blind tee shots that lead to slowdowns in play. Hopefully the maintenance improves, because the green fee is too high for a course that's not in good condition.
Cart path only
I learned to call the course before booking online as it was cart path only for no good reason at all and everyone that works there agreed. Minus the superintendent
Terrible staff, Great Course
The course itself is excellent and a Pete Dye beauty. Pretty well maintained, although it can get run down in the later summer months. It is very challenging at times but rewarding in spots. A true gem in Central Indiana. The staff, on the other hand, are consistently a challenge to deal with... almost always rude, particularly in the pro shop. This was again the case for my first time at The Fort this season. Just unacceptable for $100+ (on weekends) course in Indiana. I will say the starter recently has been excellent, although that wasn't always the case.
I'm local and have played here 20+ times and always know going in the pro-shop staff will be an older man who will likely struggle with the basic technology and be down-right rude. If your lucky, minimally cordial. I try to manage my expectations knowing that the course is worth it but with the pace of play being awful and Cart Path Only on a dry and sunny day, it will likely be my last time at The Fort, which is a pity. This Pete Dye masterpiece deserves better!
