Sugar Ridge Golf Club
About
One half of Sugar Ridge Golf Club is situated in extreme southwestern Ohio while the other half winds up into the Indiana hills. The border location may be unconventional but the setting provides a dramatic backdrop. The course sprawls across rolling hills that are abundant with wildlife. Wild turkey and deer have been known to roam the golf course. The layout has a few parallel fairways though the trees, and hills give each hole a completely secluded feel. The back nine feels more open than the front, but that may only be because of the ponds and lakes that come into play on many of the holes. Throughout Sugar Ridge Golf Club, golfers will find that the par 3s are fairly straightforward and the par 5s have sloping, uphill fairways that make them feel even longer. There are a few memorable par 4s, notable for both their scenery and level of difficulty.

Course in great shape
A couple of "unique" holes but most courses have at least one.
Course in great condition.
Super friendly staff and great course conditions.
The staff at Sugar Ridge is extremely friendly and welcoming to their course. The golf course itself was in great condition after the amount of rain we had a few days earlier. Definitely will return for more!
Great coarse
This coarse was great and had great holes and beautiful scenery
Hilly and interesting lay out
I have played at Sugar Ridge many times and I enjoy the large variety of holes on this course. Many up and down hill shots, dog legs left and right and many risk / reward holes including a pair of drivable par 4s. Throw in several holes where water is in play and you have a interesting round of golf. Fairways are wide and there are bail out areas on most holes so you do not have to be perfect on every shot. Greens were in good shape for this time of year and the course is maintained and in good condition. If you like to walk, this is not the course for you, because there are several holes where you have a very long distance between the green and next tee. This is a cart only layout. This is a fun, fair, lay out where the average golfer can have a good round as long as you play from the right tee box.
Great Course
Layout of the course is challenging and staff were great!
great fairways
Easy to get at tee time, Also the staff was great to work with on getting our time moved up.
Great course for the value!
Played this course many years ago...and reluctantly signed up again....but very glad that I did. Course has changed dramatically since it first opened in the mid-90's....greens were relatively fast and well maintained....fairways & tee boxes nicely maintained as well....staff was very friendly....played on a Friday afternoon, and pace of play was approximately 4 hours. Enjoyed the round and plan on returning in the near future. Jomama
Best fairways in area
fairways are great . Greens are great. People in pro shop and grill are very courteous.
Very nice course...interesting track and great value.
We really like this course because of the length differences between the front and back tees. Allows both my wife and I to play the course competitively. The course is always in great shape, and it's a great value - especially through Golf Now.
My worst golf experience of the year...
I booked on Golfnow for $18 so my value rating is based on that. I would have been livid if I had paid full price and had the experience I had.
To start, the clubhouse staff asked to see my confirmation email before he would check me in. I've NEVER had another course ask for this but whatever, not a big deal other than it took me a few minutes to dig it up. I was then told that they ran out of carts and were transferring them to new arrivals as people finished their rounds. Again, not a huge deal but it still doesn't exemplify the organization you would expect at any golf course. I was later told Sugar Ridge is a sister course to Pebble Creek (another poorly managed course, and now I know why# and they had to loan them carts for an outing.
Our foursome finally gets two carts #one of them a ranger cart) 20 minutes after our tee time, which didn't matter because they were that backed up anyway so we still had to wait on the first tee. While we were waiting for our carts we purchased an 8-pack of beer for 3 of us which the staff put in a big clear plastic bag with ice.
So while we were waiting on the first tee the ranger decided to blatantly inspect our carts and asked if we brought the beer with us or purchased it there. After I told him were purchased at the snack stand he said, "well we don't use these bags, this didn't come from us." Really? So I must be the dumbest golfer in America because I apparently tried to sneek beer onto the course in a CLEAR PLASTIC BAG! After a 5 minute discussion, which included me confirming to him that I'm aware it is illegal to bring beer onto the course, he dropped it and sent us on our way to a 5 1/2 hour round.
Not ONCE did I see a ranger on the course so I know they weren't doing anything to speed up play. Unbelievable.
As for the course itself, it was in ok shape. It was dry but the fairways and greens were as good as expected, no surprises.
Also, I played one of my best rounds of the year so this isn't a case of me taking out a bad round on the course, and I'm not one to really write bad reviews but I had to post something about how badly managed this place is.
This course has great features.
This is a beautiful course. Upon arrival, there were not enough carts available and we had to wait for carts. The pace of play was awful! We were waiting up to 20 minutes on every hole before teeing off. At times there were 4 different groups waiting on each hole. There were rangers on the course however they did not address the pace of play. Total round time was over 6 hours.
An entirely different course and SO MUCH BETTER!
Never planned to go back to Sugar Ridge (more than 10 yrs ago) then I saw here that it had 4/5 stars and thought, huh? For the price it was worth the risk. I don't know when it was re-designd or by who but it is now a GREAT layout. They just need to lengthen the course because right now it is basically like playing the white tees at most courses. Don't let it deter you though, cause the new design is amazing. I was so glad the long par 5 was back, that is a beautiful hole. I expected bad sand but was surprised that it was soft. The fairways are very good and the greens really couldn't be much better and are challenging with hidden breaks everywhere. I checked first time playing this course because it is 80% different from before.
Great time
Great rate for great day for golf.
Good pace of play.
Will be back again.
A good "Trainning course"
I play this course sometimes a year especially in this season because it's not occupied even in a high season and easier to make a reservation compare with other courses. I don’t think it’s a bad course but some players may not like this course because of its course layout. It seems a little bit narrow and tricky. However, when I would play this course again and again, I feel other courses much easier and improve score very much. This is the reason I call this course a “Training course”.
Great Course for the Money
Good course for the average golfer. Has some challenging holes, but a forgiving course overall. Everything but the tee boxes are maintained.
Good course for the price
Would like to see improvements in course condition (inconsistent speed on greens & excessive divots left by inconsiderate golfers), however for the price, I guess you can't expect much better.
The course is short but interesting, challenging.
A lot of variety, water, trees, heather, greens were good. Distance between holes, in some instances, were longer then I've ever seen but who cares, couldn't really walk it. Course could use more distance markers. Overall very enjoyable and I will go back.
Nice course but needs more yardage markers
The course was in very good condition and well maintained. Good value when using Golfnow.com for booking tee time. My only complaint is that there are very few yardage markers. The yardage on the scorecard is not accurate for some holes.
