Otter Creek is worth the drive
I always enjoy my rounds at Otter Creek- the setting is beautiful, the course is challenging, and the course has always been well manicured. Today I enjoyed my first round at Otter Creek without the wind. Loved it! I also shot my lowest round to date on this course. Worth the drive from Urbandale.
Always in nice shape and a challenge
I have played this course many times and it is always in excellent shape. It is a fairly challenging golf course especially if it is windy. There are hills, plenty of water hazards, tall grass, sand traps and large greens. There is not a lot of trees to hinder a golf shot but there are a few. There is a large driving range, chipping/sand play green and putting green. Some tee boxes are tricky in that they do not point you down the middle of the fairway but point you right or left of target. The pro shop and bar area are staffed with excellent people and the food is good. I have no bad things to say about the course other than some players bite off more than they can chew and play from the tips. That can slow things down a bit. Great track
Nice course
First time playing there. Course is nice with lots of sand and water hazards that make the holes a little more challenging. Very friendly staff and the course management was excellent .
Early in the season so grass was not lush and greens were slow due to not being mowed yet. Will play again during season
Really nice course for the money
Unfortunately, I played this course for the first time just after aeration of the greens and fairways. We all know how that is. Aside from that, the course was in very good shape. The greens were receptive, speed was average (maybe a 9). Fairways grass was a bit long, likely due to aeration? Water features and bunkers could be located in more strategic distance to tighten the links style course up a bit - personal opinion!
Club staff was very friendly and the golf shop has an adequate amount of merchandise. No ball markers for those who collect while traveling.
Definitely would recommend this course and I am looking forward to the next time I’m back in the area to play it again.
Sand traps
Way to compacted for such a well maintained course. They really need to work on improving sand.
