Great Price But You Roll The Dice.
I played Tomahawk for the first time yesterday and had heard many nice things about the course. The course has 2 of the nicest elevated par 3s that I have ever seen. The course in a great location and it is easily accessible from the Overland Park area.
The Tee boxes, sand traps, and greens were all in a sub par condition. I wont be back but I do recommend the course to those who are looking for a challenge at a great price.
Keep it on the Fairway or else bring some extras sleeves!
Better keep the ball on the fairway, hard to spot an ball 2 feet away if you are not on the fairway. The greens are highly challenging with multiple breaks and slopes.
Overall an great course if you can hit the ball straight, not too much give here.
Long Par 3s make this course a challenge
course is hilly with lots of side hill lies.
length is about right with the exception of six (6) par 3s which avg almost 200 yards.
Worst Golf Experience of My Life!!!
The check-in staff was dismissive, discourteous and rude.
The marhshals made no effort to control pace of play or ensure a safe and conducive golf environment.
We waited 20 minutes past our tee time to get started and then ran into 4 groups waiting on #4 which took an additional 25 minutes.
The greens were shaggy, banged up and unplayably slow. One member of our group asked if he could move his mark because of the "sand trap" in the middle of the green.
The rough was at least 8" long and laid over like an uncut hay field.
The fairways were in good shape and played OK.
I enjoyed the weather.
Usually a great course but something is amiss
Played this course several times in the past couple of years and it was always in great shape. This time the greens were in extremely bad shape. There were a lot of dead areas in the rough . one green was almost unputtable. The staff while very nice #2 green was covered with huge maple leafs. It was completely covered . Why someone did not occasionally go out to the green with a blower is beyond me.Both courses are run by Johnson County Park and Rec.. Heritage the sister course is in great shape. Very curious as to what is up.?
one of the oldest courses in KC
I really like the course layout now that they have gone back to the original layout (except for hole 10), the cliff shots are fun and the blind shots are fun as well, you should enjoy your time on this course.
This course was in bad shape
I understand that it is late in the season but compared to other courses in the area this course was in very bad shape. The greens looked very beat up and you couldn't read a put because there were so many divots and patchy areas. There were a few tee boxes that were getting re-sodded so you had to tee off from in front of the ladies tee box. The fairways weren't as bad but in no way in good shape. Very bad value for the money right now.
this golf course needs a lot of maintenance-
I used to play it ten years ago, it was a easy nice golf course but it seems the maintenance was very poor lately, they try to come back , wait two years to play it again.
Still Like The Course, But Need Improvements
The course was in the roughest shape I've seen in a while probably due to the hot Summer. The staff could do a much better job on managing the starting tee time and marshaling the course for slow play.
Course was in bad shape after a summer of extreme heat and drought.
Have always enjoyed Tomahawk Hills, but this last round was hard to get through. Too much heat and too little rain has left it's mark on the course. Will go back in the spring next year after the course has had a chance to recover.
