Great course
Loved the course. Front nine was aerated but still had good roll. If you miss the fairways, you do pay for it...I'll be back
Challenges Await
I've played the course many times and with a lake house minutes away, will continue to play here.
Highlights include a picturesque setting and a challenging layout. It's not an easy course; slope is 140 from the whites. Experience and repeated rounds let you figure out where to play the ball. Woods line many fairways and are unkind to a slice or hook. There are, though, many risk/reward shots to challenge a 15HC player. Land the ball well on many fairways, otherwise the slopes of the Barren landscape will take you to unwanted destinations!
Gripes include bunkers that simply aren't playable, hard as rock and filled with rock. Also, the cart paths have been "uprooted". Tee boxes were "meh". Greens were in very good condition but the fringe was transitioning from winter to summer in a very soggy spring.
It was Masters Sunday, the course was busy. 4.5 hour pace, really not bad. No ranger this day to help with pace.
Challenging course
Iron play is essential but course is challenging and in great condition. Staff was very friendly
Great place
Great place it was early in the season so the fairways weren’t greened up yet but the greens were in great shape and the clubhouse staff let us take a cart to the RV park because we were staying there and did not have to travel back-and-forth with the motorhome to the course meant so much to us thanks for all your help Cody and Roy were the best thanks again
Great place
Great placeWith RV Park and other amenities very very nice facility run by the state of Kentucky
Regulars
My wife and I have played Barren 10 times this year. The course is never that crowded at all, the front nine is a great warm up and the back man is very challenging. The course is maintained in great shape. I highly recommend stopping at the lodge after a round. Good food in a beautiful setting.
FYI
great course but they start their winter hours and carts have to b in by 4 pm so the Hot Deal is not a good one to take now Need to b adjusted
Fall Round
Another great round at Barren. Course was in great shape especially for Fall weather changing things lately. Course wasn’t packed at all and the groups I did catch were super friendly and let me play through.
Always love coming to this course!
Two different courses
The front is a cool side. Pretty open with views of the lake. The back is extremely tight and hard. Lots of wild life.
Great Course
For the price you can’t beat the 20 minute drive from Bowling Green. Course is always in great shape and even though the greens were sanded it still played well. Beautiful scenery and a great experience as always.
Fun course
Challenging course for the average golfer. Greens in very good shape. Pace was slow, but it was a busy Labor Day. Would recommend.
Scenic and Challenging
Beautifully situated lakeside in and among rolling hills and bluffs. Tight course that rewards accuracy and smart plays. Well maintained, especially for a state run operation!
Beautiful, but...
Course was pretty. Seeing as it’s in a state park, amenities pregame were absent. We waited at least 15 per hole just to tee off so we didn’t even get past the 10th hole and we were not the only ones. If scrambles are allowed maybe do a shotgun start.
20 minute wait between holes
Normally I love this course, but they allowed a massive group of players out in front of several of us. The couple in front of me gave up at whole number 10, and I gave up at whole number 15, after playing half of it. It’s just not worth it to play when they let so many congregate and play as a group. that’s what Rangers are for, but obviously they don’t care here at this course. I am done playing here this summer, instead will opt for other courses around Bowling Green. When I stopped in the clubhouse to express my complaint, they basically shrugged their shoulders.
Excellent course in terrific shape
The front 9 include breathtaking views of the lake, and the back 9 makes you feel like you are in the middle of a beautiful forest. Challenging for sure, but beautiful and a great value!
Less than stellar last experience
This is a course I play when I come for my family reunion and it’s been fine each time other than the most recent. It’s not the world’s best course but it is what you make it. This time was terrible, the sand traps were like concrete and the staff was not great. The two older gentlemen working there were very confrontational to our group about our pace of play when there were maybe three others groups on the course. Apparently some group jumped ahead of us and told on us to the pro shop that we were taking too long when they were a whole hole behind us. There was only one group that got close to use and we gladly let them play through. We were doing a scramble and had a very good pace and one group being unsatisfied shouldn’t result in the staff talking to multiple people in our group. Oh and they also turned the sprinklers on us on the 18th hole which is ridiculous.
