Hole #9 from behind the green Photo submitted by ShragMagtite on 09/19/2017
Thank God I'm golfing
Love this course and all the state parks I've played.weather was excellent and I didn't lose 1 ball, so that was a good day
A decent round if u get a deal
I've played here many times but it seems the dry weather has really hurt the course. Several spots where crab grass is beginning to get on the greens and fringe. It just seems that the course is not as well maintained as it used to be. We played for 13 dollars and it was well worth that but I would not pay full price to play this course with conditions as they currently are.
Great scenery
Course in decent shape greens in goof condition. I did not enjoy the inmates mowing and weed eating during play. They stirred up so much dust that we had to stop and go inside. Good use of free labor, bad decision to have them not to stop mowing while player is hitting the ball
Lake course
On the lake but lake doesn't come into play
Much. Lot of neat holes. Gold keys for seniors make it very fun i could never play from white too long
Greens ok. Course kept up great
Great course with rolling hills
This is a fun course to play, which becomes more fun the more you play it.
Every hole you have to be precise from the tee box, the longest drive is not always the best shot. Fairways very nicely maintained the rough is deceptively hard to hit from making fairway shots vital for a good round. Greens are excellent the sand traps are firm not like fluffy sand you'd see from courses in Florida so hitting from the sand not difficult for the most part.
All in all a nice course with friendly staff, I will be playing this course again soon
Excellent course
The scenery and challenges were a great value. Recommend to all levels of golfers.
Great deal
Anytime spent with a son playing golf is great. The back nine is tough.
Good value
Greens are in great conditions but the winter hasn't been kind to the fairways at this course or any others in the region. Great value for the money. The course is challenging because of the elevation changes and lack of level footing as you play. As with any State Park course, bring your bug spray and extra golf balls!
Billy Goat anyone
Played there while attending a military reunion, very hilly course and narrow fairways with limited views to the green. Helps if you are half billy goat. Course was well marked to each hole.
Fun and challenging
The front nine is fun. The back nine is brutal. Extreme elevation changes that help on some shots and hurt on others. I don't care for the amount of blind shots this course presents, but that's really the biggest problem I have. One of the better public courses in the area. Staff was pretty blah, and might as well pack your own drinks and snacks. Nothing special in the clubhouse.
1st TIme Playing Barrren River GC
Staff was very friendly and informative!
Course was good shape, especially for this time of year.
Pace of play was great!
I'll be back again and again!
very challenging course
Have played the course before. the greens were kinda slow. for this time of year overall it was in pretty good shape. when the fairways grow in great place to play
Barren is beautiful.
Barren River is a beautiful golf course. I played on a Monday around noon and it wasn't busy at all. Staff was great and friendly. Fairways, greens, bunkers and tee boxes were all in great shape. This was my first time playing here and I knew it would be challenging. Back 9 was a little tougher than front 9, but I loved the challenge. I most definitely recommend playing here if you have the chance.
Great course
Play this course every time we come to town to visit inlaws. Course requires draws and fades all through the course. My son and i would never pass an opportunity to play here. We only paid $9 per person to ride 18 with a hot deal. How can you pass on that price. If you do not know the area prepare for a lot of elevation changes which makes this course more fun.
challenging but fun
Lots of dog legs, lay ups, and elevation changes. Fun for a player who likes to work the ball left and right and some fun downhill shots. Course is well maintained and has nice greens but on the medium to slow side. Front 9 has some beautiful views of the lake (especially #4 par 5) and somewhat flatter and more open. The back is tight with lots of elevation changes and requires accurate tee shots.
fun course
Great course with 4 tee boxes to accommodate all skill levels. The course was in good shape with nothing in bad shape. The bunkers arent the best but, still very playable. The course will test your course management skills. Front 9 plays easier than back 9. The front 9 par 5's are very risk and reward. Can be reached in two for mid handicappers. You will play every club in the bag here. Driver stays bagged most of the round as your required to hit many long irons or fairway woods off tee. If your a fan of the Kentucky state park trail, this is a fun course to try. I personally enjoyed the course better than Dale Hollow. I know many feel DH is one of the best in state.
