Fairway Hills Golf Club

Some acquaintances have said this course wasn’t good. I booked a solo slot when I couldn’t find a time at one of my more usual courses. I was pleasantly surprised. Course was in fine condition -not great but nothing at all to really complain about. Pace of play was okay. Course is on the shorter side but it is tight and there are some interesting layouts that make the shorter holes plenty challenging. Price is very competitive for the area.

Experience was mixed bag; first 9 my twosome got stuck behind a slow-moving foursome that led to the hole immediately ahead (and sometimes a second hole) to be open ahead of them. They never considered waving us through. Ranger finally showed up on 6th tee about delay, he said they would likely leave after 9 which turned out to be the case. First 9 took 2:20, second 9 took 1:45 with nobody ahead of us. Course needs a concession stand, or at least someone in cart with beverages and snacks. However, course is generally a good challenge, in quite good shape, and as long as carry over marshes and creeks on 6 holes is not a problem for the golfer, it plays pretty fair.

I haven't played this track in many years as it is a shorter track and has a lot of newer players playing, which is a great thing, I just try and play longer courses. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised how nice the course was condition wise. It is still short and was even shorter as #10 fairway was closed and it was turned into a temporary Par 3. I enjoyed the round, the greens rolled well and the fairways were in nice shape.

Had a fun time playing the course. Looking forward to returning to try a improve my score.

A day prior to play, one of our 4-some had to drop out due to an emergency. There was no opportunity to modify the reservation and the facility was unwilling to offer a credit or refund (I live in the county).

Wait times for each hole were very slow, and we decided to end our plat after 9 holes. It was a painful experience in waiting at every hole.

Hole number 11 was a par 4 they made it a par 3 for no reason and we were not alerted to the change. Didn't make any sense why they shortened the hole Someone said the residence complained. Well I guess they will be cutting down hole number 1, 2, 7, and 16 soon.

Average course. Very narrow on many holes. Could be improved if cleaned up more. Too many trees with overhanging branches just in front of and next to the tee boxes and along fairways. Grass about an inch too high when off fairway. Very easy to lose balls. Cart paths in below average condition need repairs. Thought I lost a kidney on some of the potholes. Greens were decent. Will probably play again unless I can get better maintained and cared for course for similar price.

There had been a lot of rain the night before and 3 holes were closed due to water. The conditions also meant cart path only. Somewhat surprisingly, the holes that were open were virtually dry. No wet shoes, balls or clubs. For better or worse, the greens were relatively fast. I ended up in two sand traps during the round. Fortunately, I took relief due to the damp sand.
