For those unfamiliar with this course's history, it's been through some lean years and recently came under new management. As such, it's far from perfect, but having seen it at its low point, I can certainly say it's moving in the right direction.
Fairways, rough, and tee boxes were all in great shape. The greens probably need the most work, but they also take the longest to fix so it's not a shock that progress on them hasn't been instant. With any luck they'll get it fixed soon, but that's my only real complaint re: course condition.
As always, the course layout is fun. It's all Par 4's and 3's (and most of the Par 4's are only about 300 yards) so you won't be hitting your driver, but there's enough of a challenge to make things interesting. It's a great opportunity to work on your irons and chipping.
There is a full (30+ bay) driving range but I didn't use it, so I can't comment on the condition. I played on a weekday and walked 18 holes for $18, more than a fair deal.
All in all, the course isn't perfect, but it's moving in the right direction and it's scenic enough to merit at least one round.
Greens need work. New owners are working to improve. Otherwise an adequate 2 hour plus 18 hole tune up. Would not hesitate to recommend.
Course
The Course was fine definitely love the par 3’s there gives me a change from Carroll park and I love the challenge it gives but the greens has patches and not smooth when putting that’s my only complaints
Ok value for a short course
Fairways and sand traps are good. The rough is just swampland. I was able to play 18 holes in 2.5 hours. The greens are below average.
Fun track
Super fun little course, you can’t beat the price.
Moving in the right direction
I have been here a few times over the past three years. Believe the course has turned the corner to recovery after years of lean times. Course amenities and management are trending in the right direction.
July 4th weekend round
Early tee time. Started right on time. There was a 4some in front of us who was moving at a little slower pace. The weather was great but hot. We used the range beforehand and the range was much better than expected. The course is short, more like a par3 course. Rough is deep. Greens were long and could have used a cut and were slow due to that. Some areas of the green had longer clovers coming out and some dirt spots. So the course could have been taken care of a little better, but the layout made for a fun course, especially for the price. The cart girls came around with beverages 3x during the round and were very respectful and friendly.
Course
It was a really nice course to play at for a good rate.
Not in great shape
Greens were very splotchy. Fairway was like rough. Tee boxes were just ok. I enjoyed my day but the course could have been in better shape for sure.
What’s goin on with Willow?
I’ve been playing here for nearly 10 years. I used to really look forward to playing here to work on shots and have a nice walk. This course is an executive in my opinion, but how/why are they charging premium rates to play here?!? I know they’ve fallen on hard time with fires and mgnt changes but...I used to play here on weekdays for around $25-$28. It’s a shame because the par 3s are very challenging and fun. Hopefully they are getting the business they need but for these prices I simply can play just about anywhere around Baltimore and play a full size course.
Last time at this course
We have seen this course driving by for many years and finally got the chance to play it. Bad decision. The tee boxes are awful. The fairways are nonexistent and the greens are fair. The front nine are very difficult. Especially since their mower seems to be broken. I have to say that the friendliness of the staff and well equipped clubhouse were the only things that made the day enjoyable.
The course is in terrible shape. We will NOT return.
Don’t donit
Don’t waste your time or money at this course. The course is in deplorable condition. I don’t think they have any running mowers. Just awful.
Conditions are deplorable
I have golfed at Willow Springs on a periodic basis over the last 10 years to work on my irons. The course was once well kept, the greens manicured, and the sand traps immaculate. I went yesterday for the first time this year and was appalled by the conditions.
Despite no appreciable rain in the past few months, the fairways were over grown, the traps eroded, and the greens spotted and bumpy. I also learned that the owner is trying to sell the property so hasn't invested in basic maintenance. This includes not overseeing last fall. It hurts my heart that this once beautiful course is totally unplayable.
Nice short course
This was a great place to take my 13 year old son who doesn't take golf very seriously. We had a lot of fun and were done in 3 hrs. It's a short course and wide enough to avoid losing a lot of balls. The layout is great and conditions were very good. The carts and paths are rough but it is priced accordingly.
