Robert T. Lynch Municipal - Brookline Golf Course

About
Brookline Golf Course at Robert T. Lynch Municipal sits on a parcel of land that was originally designated by the town as a bird sanctuary. Many varieties of birds still call the course home. The course is part of the Putterham property, which also includes Brookline Golf Club. It may be difficult to get into the renowned Brookline Country Club, the owner of Putterham Meadows, but Brookline Golf Club and the Robert T. Lynch Course provide great public options. The Robert T. Lynch Course is smaller than the other public golf course at Putterham, but it is no less challenging. The fairways are seemingly open and flat, but don't be fooled because placement within them is key if you don't want any blocked angles. The tricky greens are often elevated, and some are multi-tiered. The golf course may be short, but it's a formidable test.

Drained really well
Played on a saturday morning after very heavy rains most of the night. Was VERY impressed how well the course drained. The group i played with were all experienced golfers and kept talking about how impressed they were that the course was so nice after such a night of heavy rain.
Morning Round
Course has a great layout. If you are in Boston and looking to get out and play would def recommend. Calling in order on the 9th hole ahead of the turn to pick it up and move on to the 10th hole kept things moving great.
Play here a lot... probably won't as much anymore
I've played here probably 30-40 times in the last few years. The main reason is cause it's cheap ($26) if you play after 3 and it has a range and a putting green.
The recent problem here is the booking and amount of people they let out. It's always been a problem but now it's a really big problem and makes me not want to go there.
They overbook this place like it's no ones business. We were playing on wednesday at 3PM. That's not exactly a "10AM on a saturday" tee time. However, we had to wait on every single hole. Not an exaggeration. There were several holes where we would be on the tee box, and we would see a group on the fairway and also a group on the green.... on par 4's. Not par 5's. ON PAR 4's. That should rarely, if ever, happen. Not to mention, we saw several groups playing the course in random order. To be honest, I suspect a lot of people "sneak on" to this course. I saw a single start playing in front of us starting at the 15th hole. Did he accidently skip a hole? Or did he just sneak on the back and goes to whatever hole doesn't have a group on it? I'm not sure, but I saw several groups or individuals show up and go to "wrong" holes.
The food here (vine ripe grill) is excellent. I haven't had anything bad and the staff takes pride in the food.
The range is pretty good. The condition of the course is comparable to other municipal courses in the area. For the price, it's a good deal. But the lack of a starter, the lack of any sort of enforcement or marshaling is embarrassing, and the pace of play is beyond slow. You're looking at a 4:45 to 5:25 round no question.
Generally good fairways and challenging greens
This was my first time playing the Brookline municipal course. The layout was interesting, but not awesome. The par 4s on the front 9 aren't too long. The par 3s are average and the one par 5 is also average at about 500yds. The first hole is a long walk from the starter and not well marked to the white tees. The first fairway also gradually turns to sand on the right side. The yardages aren't well marked on the fairways or on the teeboxes, especially where tees are moved from box to box depending on conditions. It makes it hard to estimate the club to use without using GPS. The scorecard doesn't have a layout on it, so you have to be careful not to hit in the wrong direction a couple of times.
However, the fairways are generally in very good condition as are the greens. And the slopes on the greens are very hard to read and change quickly. This adds a good challenge to the course, although sometimes it feels like you're on a mini golf course with the cup at the top of a mound. The 9th hole has a particularly challenging blind dogleg left; if you overshoot the turn you hit the driving range net.
The starter was friendly and there was a drink cart we saw on the 7th hole but didn't check out the selection.
All in all, a good course that I'd play again.
Great Value
Although the conditions are never perfect, this is my favorite municipal course in the area simply due to the fact that it tends to be a cheaper option and the other's aren't that much of an improvement. As a side note, they have some of the best food I have ever had at a public golf course.
Good - except...
Some guy, not sure if it was an employee or what, drove a bucket of balls from the 18th green towards the tee box (opposite direction). Not only was this stupid and dangerous, it was extremely annoying to search for my ball off the tee box, since there were about 50 balls spread throughout the fairway. The old guy was driving around in a cart picking up his range balls like it was no big deal. Very inconsiderate and annoying. Find this guy and ban him.
Other than that it was a great day/round.
Brookline....
The course was not a gret shape. The green were very slow. The fairway was extremely wet and bare at some places. Very difficult to get a good lie on the fairways. The young starter was nice.
Better Than Sitting Inside
Is this course The Country Club? No. Is it better than chipping around in your living room? Yup.
I live in Brighton in an apartment so the options for golf, besides putting on the carpet, are very limited.
This is a good little course I can go to play 9 after work on weekdays or when the wife wants to go out and play with me. The price is $6 more than 2 buckets at the range and I can get much better practice in. Yeah the conditions are not amazing. Some holes are better than others. But hey, at least I'm playing golf! I'd consider this a "practice course" so when you go spend $80 somewhere else, you're not duffing it the whole day because you haven't played in a month.
Putterham/Brookline
The course is never in good condition, but it's 10X better than it was a few years ago. I am hoping it will continue to improve but I've heard the town cut funding so I'm not sure. The layout is interesting with some challenging holes, but still fairly short and pretty simple.
The pace of play can get REAL slow in the summer, but is better than nearby munis like George Wright or Franklin Park. The scenery is very nice (It is adjacent to The Country Club) and you can see some pretty cool wildlife considering it's still in the city.
The best part of the course however is the food. Make sure you order lunch on the turn, they had the best chicken cesear wrap I've ever had. The coffee wasn't great but I can't recommend the food enough.
Ultimately, I'd say wait for a deal, but still worth it if you're in the city and not trying to drive for an hour.
they neglect anything and everything but the greens here
Greens were alright, fairways were something out of a nightmare omg were they soooo bad
Horrible conditions. Not worth your money
Terrible conditions.
Dirt everywhere.
No yardage markers.
No maps for newcomers.
Starter was unfriendly
Good course for the price
Good course for the price especially if you live in the Boston area.
What happened to the fairways?
I have traveled around with my golf clubs, and I have to admit Florida and Caribbean golf course fairways in the middle if the dry season were in better conditions than these ones. I have lost more balls in the middle of the fairways than after wayward shots in the bushes.
Terrible conditions
Fairways are mostly dirt and 1st cut is like the rough in many holes. Earlier in the year the course was in much better conditions.
Not bad for beginners
This course is pretty good for beginners who haven't played at too many other course. The fairways were patchy to say the least. The parts that were maintained were done so very well. Blind holes aren't always the greatest when it's your first time on the course, but nothing bad about that. Overall, a decent course. I'd play again if I find another deal online.
Terrible conditions
Terrible conditions overall. I also thought it was incredibly disrespectful to players to have someone giving a lesson on the 18th fairway firing balls towards the 18th tee box.
Stay away if you like playing golf.
This course was in horrible shape. Not worth the $
Poor Quality, Not much Charecter
Odd course layout very odd green locations with terrible conditions in fairways in green with dead grass
This course is a pretty good course kind of tough
Great course fairways need a little bit of work but other than that everything is pretty good
Putterham
I've played this course in the past and knew about how wet it can be. So that was no surprise. What was new where the terrible conditions. Most of the green where like playing bumper pool. I would say it was a value because I got my 18 on golfnow for 29$ the guys I was playing with paid 62$. Good for me - they complained the whole day about it.
That guy would more than likely be the pro. They give lessons in that area (or at least they did before the driving range opened).
